I just found this on RTSports.com:

The Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders LB Kirk Morrison will have a chance to compete for the starting strongside linebacker spot this year.

Has anyone else read a story about that? His IDP numbers would take a huge hit in my opinion... :goodposting:

Always find the original source. Morrison is safe. :goodposting:

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent linebacker Edgerton Hartwell, hoping he can revive a career beset by injuries in recent seasons.

The 30-year-old Hartwell played only 13 games in 2005 and '06 with Atlanta because of injuries to his knee and Achilles' tendon. He was cut by Cincinnati before the start of last season and sat out the entire year.

He [Hartwell] signed with Oakland on Tuesday and will have a chance to compete for the starting strong-side linebacker spot alongside Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard. Robert Thomas and Sam Williams shared those duties last season. The Raiders have been looking to upgrade their run defense after allowing a league-worst 4.8 yards per carry last season.

The Raiders also signed quarterback Brian White of Portland State and defensive end Greyson Gunheim of Washington ahead of the rookie minicamp this weekend.

Hartwell hasn't been relevant for years. I don't think he's going to start now. Morrison is a lock to start at MLB, IMO.

Kirk is locked into the middle job. He and Howard are the 3 down LBs, nothing will change in that sense.

Not that the Raiders SLB job is a hotbed of fantasy activity, but for those that care, Hartwell will compete with Sam Williams and Robert Thomas for SLB duties, in an effort to shore up the run D. Even if he wins the job, he'll be a two down SLB at best.

Personally, I think it's better than 50/50 that he gets cut.

Doesn't really make much sense to me, as Hartwell doesn't seem to have much left, or so I thought. But with it being this early, there's probably not much to see in this, but who knows?

Per Rotoworld:

The Raiders are trying Ed Hartwell at middle linebacker in minicamps.

The SF Chronicle suggests MLB Kirk Morrison could switch to the strong side, which would be an extremely questionable move. Morrison is Oakland's best linebacker and Hartwell couldn't even make the Bengals last summer. We wouldn't take this too seriously. Hartwell will probably end up at the SAM.

(KFFL) Updating a previous item, Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders LB Kirk Morrison could move to the strongside linebacker position this season if LB Edgerton Hartwell shows he is capable of playing the middle linebacker position. Morrison's coverage skills match up well with tight ends and running backs over the middle of the field, and he at times last season had difficulty in terms of playing off blocks in the middle.

No panic here. Hartwell won't even make the team. He was cut by the Bengals last year and never brought back even though they were starting guys like anthony Schlegal at MLB. On the other hand you might be able to use this story to scam him away from some unsuspecting league rival who doesn't subscribe to FBG...

John, I agree with you, but there is the part of me that wonders...since it's Al and the Raidahs. I just can't put anything past them, so even though it doesn't sound logical...one has to wonder.
