Pete seems like the ideal college coach - fun loving players' coach type guy. It didn't work in the NFL the first time around - will it this time?

I'm going to say I believe Carroll and the Seahawks already have an agreement in place. It's why Frazier turned down the interview request because he probably felt he was just being used to satisfy the Rooney rule. I also don't think you somewhat unexpectedly fire your one year HC and immediately pursue Carroll the same day with no current GM in place. I think they only decided to fire Mora once they knew Carroll was on board.

Jimmy Johnson left The U when the right offer came around. If Paul Allen opened the vault why wouldn't Carroll take his chance?

LOL...Carroll was just in a show on NFL network about the top 10 coaches who should have never left college for the NFL.

The surf isn't worth a crap in Washington, is it? How's Spicoli going to make due?

He will still have cool, older guy hair no matter what though. Grecian Formula be damned!

Carroll is realizing the PAC-10 really isn't big time college football anymore...with LHUCKS be next?
So funny, there is not even an emoticon appropriate enought to express the hilarity. Only because my kid is looking over my shoulder and this is his favorite...along with the guy drinking "sweet tea".

Carroll coaching in Seattle and a good chance Reggie Bush a Free Agent..........I think I see a connection.

If Leinart wasn't in division I'm sure he could be had pretty reasonable as well.

He's gonna have a tough time dealing with a salary cap after coaching at USC.
WHY? Trojans probably spend more than most small market teams
That's what I'm saying. How will be adjust to caps on the amount of money that one can spend to procure talent? If the guy can only manage to go 9-4 with a team that gets paid millions more than its opponents, how can he win with a team that doesn't?

I have a hard time believing anything Mort says anymore.

Also, think it would be a horrible move for the Seahawks and Carrol. Stay in college where you belong.

Going to be interesting to see what happens with the Rooney Rule with this.

All reports are that Carroll basically has the job, and thus Leslie Frazier declining the interview so that he isn't the "token black guy".

Is the rule you need to interview the candidate, or attempt to interview them?

At USC, he has twice the talent than any other team he faces.

At Seattle, not so much.

I prefer a coach that will instill discipline and play tough football.

Perhaps someone can explain why he gets that rep, as if he is Nick Saban or something. He had a 33-31 record as HC in the NFL, with 10-6, 9-7 and 8-8 records. He went to the playoffs twice in those years. Not amazing or anything, but it was still respectable. I mean Parcells only had a 32-32 record with the Patriots right before Carroll. Belichick went 5-11 in the year after Carroll was fired. So why does everyone say Carroll is a terrible NFL head coach?

Next year is uncapped. It's not really clear that all the owners really want a salary cap or will be able to get one. The guys like Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder probably prefer an uncapped system because they'll be able to win every year. Seattle isn't a BIG market but the owner might be as rich as all the other owners combined. If he lost $100 mil a year on the team he'd probably go broke in 200 years or so.

He took a team coming off of a Super Bowl appearance and it got worse.

 I can only guess the main reason people are so down on him as an NFL coach is (1)he has already had 2 NFL head coaching jobs. As you pointed out he did not do poorly with the Pats and barely had a chance with the Jets but still it's 2 jobs encompassing 4 years without huge success (2) it's not so much that people are down on him as an NFL coach as that they are high on him as a college coach. So I think sometimes when people disparage him as an NFL coach it's in light of what he is as an college coach were he's one of the kings of the game versus what has been a very average at best track record as an NFL HC.

Because they watch ESPN

"The interest is mutual" = "Pete would love to have his contract renegotiated".

unless he is expecting it to hit the fan at USC and he is bailing now before it falls apart.

That's not unusual for a team to lose the SB and be worse the next season. Up until this season it had been a trend.
No kidding. He only had a 1 in 32 shot of being better. Kind of a normal regression to the mean there. By that rationale, Tomlin took a team that was a Super Bowl Champ and made them much worse this year.

If this happens it would seem likely Carroll would take one of his running backs McKnight or Johnson. Johnson would seem more feasable as the Seahawks already have a scat back in Forsett and Johnson should be aviable in later rounds then McKnight.

Leslie Fraiser has had a change of heart and will interview after all.

If you extend an offer to interview and the person declines that should be good enough. You can`t force someone to interview. I remember Jerr yJones cut Dennis Green a check for a BS interview.

Carroll was too nice, too buddy-buddy with the players. When he needed to "come down on them" he couldn't. It was probably an amateurish mistake he'd never do again.
