Kolb is done playing the good soldier (1 Viewer)

Yes, normally 27 is young for a QB, but not if you're still not a starter at 27.
Isn't that an awfully spurious, circular argument? I mean, he didn't have journeymen in front of him. Rodgers wasn't a starter in his first 2 or 3 seasons either.....

The guy has one year left on his contract. No way never happening not in a million years, pick your phrase, will an NFL team give up a first rounder for Kolb for one year. Last April he signed a two year deal. Year one was 2010. 2011 is the final year.

Every player in the first and probably many in the second with their probably 4 year deals are way more enticing than Kolb for one year.

Ironically, after how Vick played this year, him for one year would seem like something a team might trade for. He's excellent now. Kolb needs seasoning before he is (if he ever is).
This is a good point. Nobody (except Oakland maybe) would trade a first for a one year rental. It's assumed that part of any trade deal would be an extension of some sort. The argument here is centered more around his actual NFL value. IE: WIll he make a top 10 starter, top 15, or marginal? Part of the problem with the discussion is that we do NOT all agree on the value of draft picks. To some people, an average (starting) QB is only worth a 2nd. To them, draft picks are valuable because they have a chance to yield a superstar. To other folks, an average STARTER (QB in the 12-16 area), is absolutely worth a first. These folks like the security of a more known commodity, and believe that if the player is better than the average yied of the draft position, they are worth that pick.

QB is a the toughest position to scout and draft, and while we can argue about his ceiling, his floor is much, MUCH higher than any second round pick. Some of us see a very high, top 10 ceiling.

So, if you ignore the contract situation (which you have to at this stage), I can't see how anyone could place Kolb's worth at anything less than a late 1st (higher floor than 2nd rounders, and a common, if not universal belief that he'll make a solid starter). I personally see an earlier first alone, or a mid-late first and a 3rd/4th.

Rodgers was 24 when he became a starter, Kolb is 27 and still isn't a starter. Twist that anyone you want, but the proof is in the pudding.

What has Kolb proven in the NFL? Not enough to command anything more than a 2nd round pick, IMO. Even that might be overpaying.

There's no proof of anything in this line of thinking.

Schaub was 26 when traded to texas. Trade was Schaub and Falcons 1st(10th) for Texan's 1st(8th), 2007 and 2008 2nd

Hasselbeck was 26 when traded to Seattle. Trade was Matt Hasselbeck and GB's 1st(17th) and 7th round pick for Seattle's 1st(10th) and 3rd round picks

Schaub was a 3rd round draft pick and Hasselbeck was a 6th round
