Labrandon Toefield (1 Viewer)

I havent really heard anybody talking about this since Greg Jones went down for the year. I am not trying to predict injuries but... Fragile Fred Taylor will probably miss some time this year. That being said, someone will have to get the carries when he does.

The board seems pretty split on Maurice Jones-Drew. I personally am not high on Maurice as a starting RB in the NFL although the guy is a great athlete.

Toefield has had a great camp and is averaging 3.9 YPC in the pre-season. His YPC is higher than Taylor, Greg Jones and Maurice Jones-Drew. I think he could get some serious playing time when and if Taylor gets injured.

IMHO it is a situation that we need to keep an eye on as there could be some value in Toefield down the road. What do you guys think??

I think Drew would get the Taylor spot if Taylor gets injured. But Toefield might get the goal line work that Jones was supposed to get.

He got his avr against third stringers. Maurice is going to overtake him soon.
Yeah but Jones and Drew-jones also played against second and third stringers and their YPC is still lower. Besides, that also means the offense had second and third stringers playing as well, so he wasn't playing with the number #1 offense. Which is as much a disadvantage as is playing against a second or third string defense.

I picked him up over Jones-Drew this week. My speculation is that it will be a RBBC with Toefield and Jones-Drew if Taylor goes down, with Toefield getting majority of carries (including goal line) which is why I picked him over Jones-Drew, and Jones-Drew being used as a change of pace back and on 3rd downs. The nfl.com article reporting Greg Jones' injury stated Toefield is Fred's backup for right now, not Jones-Drew. There are other recent threads on the board where folks think Jones-Drew is the best RB to pick up, but that is not my opinion.

FWIW, In the one preseason I saw him play, he looked pretty decent. Good turn of direction, good leg drive, decent power.
Agreed, he came in right after Jones was hurt and looked very good. I believe he saw time in the second quarter which would have been against the number 1 defense.

I wouldn't drop anyone good to pick him up, but I think there were a lot of leagues that he wasn't rostered, and Jones-Drew was. That was the case in one of mine, and I picked him up. If I had to choose between him and Jones-Drew, I'd probably take Toefield. But I wouldn't be 100% that I made the right decision.

Wimbush is the guy that's all but forgotten here. He has taken Jones' position as the starting FB and is likely to get goal line carries, and in leagues that offer points for return yards he is the Jags #1 kickoff returner.

Rotworld reporting.

Derrick Wimbush is reportedly ahead of Maurice Drew in the battle to be the team's backup running back. With Greg Jones out, the team may de-emphasize the fullback role, using Wimbush more as a tailback. While we wouldn't draft Wimbush in his second season, it looks like he and LaBrandon Toefield are first in line for carries behind Fred Taylor.
I'm hesitant to buy into anything regarding Toe, Drew, or Wimbush at this point. I'm sure JDR will be asked in his next presser, and like Fisher he should clear the air.

Not that I care all that much, but what the hell happened to Pearman?
I dont have any links but there were several articles about him becoming expendable because of Drew-Jones being able to handle kick off returns (or punt returns, I cant remember) IIRC he had some problems fumbling and he just didnt look that good. He is currently listed as the #3 rb behind Taylor, Toefield and ahead of Drew-Jones.

Thanks. Guess he could be cut?

Maybe but with Jones being out I doubt it. I just dont think the Jags see Jones-Drew as an option at RB right now and if they cut him it would leave them thinner than they would like. Although I do think Wimbush might also sneak in some time as a back up RB (as stated above) There is a video on their website (I dont know how to link the video as it does not have its own url) where they talk about Toefield and Wimbush fighting for playing time behind Taylor and also fighting for goal line carries.

There are some very strong anti-Maurice Drew vibes flowing through a series of articles and sites right now. It does sound like Wimbush, Toefield, and Pearman are ahead of him, and he isn't being discussed as a 3rd option either. The Jags desperately need playmakers, and Drew is one. Odd depth chart, strange stories with no sourcing from Jags staffers.
