La'el Collins stock just dropped (1 Viewer)

Too bad he didn't have you advising him. Although maybe he would want to be around people that didnt know he was a murderer. How's the investigation going, by the way? Any more clues you have all figured out?
Looks like someone got away with murder.

According to La’el Collins, his name was mentioned by Mills’ 10-year-old daughter during an interview with police. (The Baton Rouge P.D. declined to confirm this detail.) Collins, 21, says he had a very brief relationship with Mills, and that she suspected the baby she was carrying might be his. Collins says he exchanged text messages with her, in March, about taking a paternity test after the baby was born.
He signs a three-year, fully guaranteed deal worth $1.7 million, not counting the possibilities of a high tender or performance bonuses. Still, Collins has lost nearly $15 million because of a murder case in which he hasn’t been deemed a suspect or a person of interest.
Makes a lot of sense to avoid the media with $15M to lose.
Because if he had thrown a press conference declaring his innocence, the homicide detectives would have said, alrighty than, he must be innocent since he said so, and he would have been a sure fire top 20 pick?

* The fact that you have chosen to emphasize, that they haven't caught the killer as of TODAY, is precisely the same fact that complicated his case THEN. No amount of press conferences would have changed that. Some things, like the negative paternity test, had to take some time to come in, which may not have been completely under his control, BEFORE THE DRAFT.

I can't get over how close the Saints were to this situation in distance in conjunction with how badly they needed just exactly him. I can't believe the Saints and 31 other teams, even teh Cowboys, would not even spend a 7th on him to get him wrapped up. LSU fans loved him in terms of his play on the field.

Sean Payton said in his press conference that there just wasn't enough information on his situation to draft him.

Did you hear the news about La’el Collins falling from 1st round status?

“I really didn’t know about that at all.”
I cannot even grasp how that could be true.

Did you have Peat ranked above La’el Collins?

“Yes, from the beginning. Just the flexibility. We had a really good grade on Collins. Teams are projecting him at tackle and guard and our projection with him is as a guard. I think he’s a very dominant player, physical. We just saw a different type of player in Peat.”
How about Marcus Murphy, did we have Collins ranked above him? Probably a close call. [= sarcasm]

2nd day's post draft presser:

Did you take La’el Collins off the board in the last 48 hours?

“I said this last night, we saw that player as a guard. There is an interest in any young offensive lineman. We selected a tackle yesterday and felt really good about the pick. Make no mistake about the uncertainty with a player. It is unusual, the circumstances surrounding his week. That is something I think that a lot of teams looked at the same way. If we were just looking at the grade of the player, he did a lot of good things for LSU. I can’t recall a situation like this since I have been here in a position as a head coach to look at and be part of a draft process. It is something that’s unique.”
Would you consider taking La’el Collins in the seventh round?

“I don’t know, with what we know, how to answer your question fairly. I think it’s a good question; I don’t know that we would consider that right now until we had more clarity. It seems like there’s a rush for everyone, and one of the things I said this morning is that we are right down the road, are we able to get some information that other teams don’t have yet? I haven’t had that or gotten that information yet to answer that as a yes.”
Even with the lack of "clarity" the Tigers could have taken him and waited 2-3 months until things cleared up.

Nobody drafted him with a (4th,5th,6th or) 7th because he and his agents were clear (see that link to the Rams story above) that if a team drafted him after the 3rd, he would not sign and re-enter the 2016 draft.

but during the draft it was let known that he wouldn't be able to re-enter the draft next year.

If he was drafted in any round he could re-enter next years draft. If he was not drafted, he could not.

Meh, I still would've pulled the trigger (no pun intended) with a 7th round pick. It's akin to buying a lottery ticket for a 1st round player. How many 7th round picks make it out of camp in the first place? Maybe he signs with you, maybe he doesn't, but one thing is clear; he isn't able to play for anyone else but you until after the 2016 NFL draft.

http://www.nola.com/crime/baton-rouge/index.ssf/2015/07/family_of_brittney_mills_dna_paternity_lael_collins.html

On May 6, Baton Rouge police brought Collins in for questioning and administered a paternity test. Coppola said the DNA test results were negative, confirming Collins was not the father of Brittney's son, Brenton.

But Mills' mother, Barbara, says she knows what her daughter told her before she died -- that Collins was the father. That's why she's considering getting a second DNA test done outside the state of Louisiana.

"We prefer a second DNA test be done out of the jurisdiction of the state to put our minds at rest," Barbara Mills said. "I believe what my daughter told me."
Still no suspects in the case and the police don't know her password to get access to her phone.
