Lance Briggs.....shhhhhh (1 Viewer)

Ron_Mexico

I Love Doggies
Seau retiring, Bruschi going into his 13th NFL season,

and 37 year old Rodney Harrison going into his 15th professional

season. The Pats are getting extremely long in the tooth

in the defensive backfield.

I personally think the Patriots will make a run for OLB Lance Briggs.

If they sign both Adalius Thomas and Lance Briggs,

it will be the sickest off-season defensively of any team

in NFL history.

The price is a low first and a 3rd round pick

to land him. A price the Patriots can definately afford, imo.

Harrison is #37, he's not 37. He is only 34. He will be 35 in December.

It will cost a first, a third...and don't forget the 9-year $65 million deal he wants. That's a lot for a guy who doesn't want to play in a 3-4:

ALSO, not to nitpick further, but the term "defensive backfield" generally refers to the CBs and Ss, not the LBs.
Interesting read, Exile.EEI says there will be another "Big Signing"

after AThomas, wonder who it might be.

I was pretty sure the franchise tag cost 2 1st rounders and not just a 1st and 3rd (unless you are talking about the Bears intentionally settling for less)

Also, Bears will have choice to match any offer in 1 week.

Donte Stallworth? No idea, really.

They may be able to afford draft picks necessary to trade for Briggs, but can they afford another big, long-term contract like Briggs would be demanding ? On top of that, does he fit into the 3-4 defense ? I wouldn't be as worried about that answer because Briggs is a great player, but are they maximizing their return on the money they would be paying him ?

Hell yes, he's young, a proven stud and he'd be playing in a system desingned to make the Linebacker star. The Pats pick 24 and 28 in a draft that is considered 10 deep. The bonus plus salary for these two rookies would have to be better than 50% of what it costs for Briggs. More money, more player and young enough to see the end of a potential deal.I like it...

Sweetness, don't let facts get in the way of a Patriots fan's chubby.Plus, they have reportedly signed Adalius Thomas - so they won't want Briggs.

:goodposting: Briggs was a bad fit for the Pats before they signed Thomas. I cant see Briggs with the Pats.

As an OLB yes.... but he'd thrive as an inside backer in a 3-4. The Pats don't have the coin though...

No going to happen. They will add to their LB depth via the draft, and the next "big" signing will be on the WR side. Probably Horn.

Read earlier in the season that Briggs is not interested in going to the Patriots, and that he does not fit the Patriot System.

If it is not a match on both sides, I doubt you will see this happen.

:lmao:

not likely to sign another big name LB, but the Pats should sign one of the FA WRs so they can use their two 1st rounders on DBs

I think they are signing Wes Welker...not a big signing IMO though.
