Last Chance U - Going around the country documenting FSU dropout QBs (1 Viewer)

I'm up to s3e5.. I do like the new English teacher in Indy, but the HC is so hard to take.  Just a joke and my goodness does he make poor on-field coaching decisions.

I wonder how many of those decisions are fueled by "Hey Motherf##ker, I'm on ### #### Motherf##Kin Netflix Son."
fixed

I really have no interest in this guy, he's a 1st class tool

I'm torn on "Straight outta Compton".  On one hand I really like him.  I get the guy, we're from the same area.  The profanity doesn't bother me at all.  I think he's being real when he talks about the Xs and Os not really mattering at that level... but I do think he's an idiot at play calling and is delusional calling himself a "savant" and a master at adapting on the fly.  Seems he knows he's not D1 material though and seemed content to be a big fish in a small pond in KS.   Sometimes you have to wonder how much he cares about the kids vs winning.  It's clear he's done a TON for a guy like Carlos... but then he's pretty quick to snap and throw him under the bus and verbally berate him.  He's definitely too prideful and kind of an idiot and he looks like Suge White with his cigars and suits.  I was glad they won though.  This season was easily my favorite of the 3.

I finished episode 3 of season 3 last night.

Today I won a game of monopoly and stood up and screamed "you can't hold my nut sack!"

My wife is threatening to cancel Netflix  :lmao:

I don’t recall him saying that.
I didn't hear it on the show either, but the kid is an ###-hat. He is a talented ###-hat, I understand. When a ref tells you to stop using the N word or you will be ejected, and your response is "yeah. #### you," you are a jackass.

going to check in on the EMCC episode, but after that i'm out. it's just not compelling to me anymore. the head coach is so awful & getting so much air time that it's unwatchable.

eta: just finished the Dodge City episode... 4th one, i think

Make sure you watch the return to EMCC episode. Tragic.
Agreed.  It was good to see what is happening with those players.  I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but damn did I feel for that kid.

I couldn't stand the coach at Independence, but by the end of all the episodes I liked him more than Buddy at E. Mississippi.

never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever talk to the cops without a lawyer.  ever. never.

if you're in a room with detectives and they're offering suggestions, positing theories about your involvement in some situation... they're just letting you know why you're about to go to prison. whether you deserve it or not.

GET. A. LAWYER.

Exactly.  The moment he started going with the cops theory, I knew he was Fd.  His brother just said I have no idea what they were going to do.  I thought they were buying weed.  I hope Isaiah can get out of this, but it sure isn't likely when he repeated the Detectives'  'get the money' statement.

cross-thread reference

it's what he cops did to Dassey. suggest, theorize, make agreeing with their theory sound totally harmless..... then as soon as you repeat the words they've provided you.... the trap door shuts and you are ####ed.

don't speculate, don't say "well, i think this might be what happened" because they're just going to keep pushing, prodding, twisting and turning until "i think this might be what happened" becomes "well, yeah, i'm pretty sure" becomes "yeah, you're right.. that's what happened"... even if you're just saying it because you want them to stop & you've been assured that you can't possibly get in any trouble.

Malik Henry is clueless.  Won't sign unless it's a top 5 program.  After  this show no D-1 coach is going to touch him.
TBH, I think Malik prefers it that way.  He doesn't have the heart or desire to play the game at the next level.

Its been interesting since they filmed season 3 here in Independence.

National exposure should help the football program.  Hell, any help is an improvement. :grad:

some info on the team being featured in season 4.

The team featured in season 3 of Last Chance U had a rough season it looks like.   ICC went 2-8 on the year.  They won the first game of the season and the last game (in OT).

Malik Henry looks like he only played 2 games.  The second of which he had bad stats so I think he may have been benched but I am unsure.

Stats in last game were 13/28 passing, 119 yards, no TDs and 3 Ints

I reffed one of their games this year, around week 5 I think.  Coach just seemed like he was defeated.  They were in the game, but lost a close one on the road.

You know, some people watch without knowing all of this.

so you getting any screen time? Time for an agent? lol

I'll find out when season 4 comes out.  Had one exchange with the coach that will probably make the cut if the mics picked up the audio.
don't answer if it makes you uncomfortable, but I was wondering how the pay is for a game at that level to ref?

$225 flat fee.

I'm part of a D-2 conference, but we cover some Kansas JuCo games during the season   The D-2 games pay $375. If all I did was JuCo, it wouldn't be worth it.

Haven't watched it all, but after skimming through a few episodes, I don't think my game was covered.  It was a rainy game at Butler CC and they lost 17-14.

I missed season 3 so Im watching it now.  I’m halfway through and man all I can think is what a horrible coach this guy is.

maybe a good motivator but an absolute horrible game day coach.

Rant about this season:  There are actually plenty of players from ICC that end up in solid D1 schools (Cal, Indiana, Vandy, and Colorado) that I barely recall at all from the show.  Seems stupid to spend so much time on sob-stories like Bobby Bruce (although the King/Jay lines were compelling).  This show seems to magnify drama, but I want to see players that are up against, learn the right lessons, and actually succeed too.  No wonder the 2 years at EMCC were the 2 out of the last 6 they didn't win the title.

My game was between episode 5 and episode 6.

SPOILER - I know the white hat that tosses Brown in ep. 6.  He was my first college referee and is a fairly straight arrow.  Doesn't surprise me that he clashed with Brown.

On a side note, I've called games for Sims at Garden City as well.  He is a grade A d-bag.  Brown was a piece of cake to work with compared to Sims.

ETA - but Sims is a much better coach.

Agreed.  I was shocked to hear so many players that I hadn't even heard of or remember on the show ended up getting D1 offers.  I guess handling your business properly isn't as "entertaining"

I coach HS football in SE Kansas and we played against Chance Main his Senior Year. Actually went back last night and watch some game film. He didn't really stand out on film (we beat them by 40) but he was a big kid that passed the "eye test."  Perfect example of a kid who has worked extremely hard to make himself into a good football player. Nice to see a local kid do well.

They should just rename this Last Chance Bobby Bruce. This is waaaaaaay too much of that guy. He just isn’t that interesting.

Love when my former 5-star qb throws a 70-yard touchdown on the first play of the game and then doesn’t take another snap till the final drive.

Feels like brown would have been good as a recruiting coordinator at a decent program. Definitely not a game coach. Guess he’s probably done at any level at this point though.

Uhhhhh you aren’t the Iowa ref right? :lmao:
Nope, my game didn't make the show, but I know that guy.  I was on a crew with the white hat and the umpire from that game.

He is a by the book guy and doesn't take kindly to being cussed out.

I don't know.  I assume some cellar-dwellar school will probably hire him to try to revamp their program.  He's such a clown though.

I do hope that D-coordinator gets a shot at a bigger program though.

Not sure why a legit prospect would want to be on the show.  I know people act different when the cameras are on, but there are several players I wouldn't want on my team based on what was shown.  If they have the talent they will get a shot, but damn, some of those guys can't be worth the hassle.

Kids in a CC talking about the NFL that would be lucky to see DII.
