Laurence Maroney not on the injury report? Hell hath froze over... (1 Viewer)

From Rotoworld...

Laurence Maroney and Donte' Stallworth have been removed from the Patriots' weekly injury report.

Both are healthy and ready to take a full complement of snaps Sunday against Washington. The Redskins' defense is playing well all around, but it'd be near impossible to sit Maroney now that he's apparently 100 percent and won't feel the threat Sammy Morris (chest) once posed for carries.

This is rediculous... he sat for month then got 6 carries and now BB of all people removes him from the list?!?!

Expect him to not play and this to be a ruse.

Anyone else choke when they read this? It's just Rotoworld's interpretation of the news, but "near impossible"?!? He's got a bad matchup and there is no clear idea of what his role will be (even if he's healthy).Of course, I'll be waiting to hear Yudkins updates on this matter.

A bad matchup for the Pats is probably the best thing in the world for Maroney. If they are blowing a team out rediculously like they do every week, then Maroney is not needed to play much. However in a tough matchup the Pats will have to depend on the run way more IMO.

I traded Maroney and Mason for Willie Parker

I KNOW than better than to trust in a NEP RB or a DEN RB ..... so unpredicatble its not even funny. I could give, I gave, and my prized Maroney is no more :blackdot:

which of course means he'll go OFF for 150 yards and 7 TD's :pickle:

cool thanks

I'll be starting Brandon Jacobs over him this weekend (after doing the opposite last week), so Maroney should be good for 150 and 2 TDs.

ETA: 7 TDs seems a bit too optimistic :lmao:

Belichick is killing me this season. Putting Brady back in for that last TD made me lose the week by 2 pts and the nonsense with Maroney has been driving me nuts. Therefore, Maroney is "on the block". His value is good right now with Morris out for a while.

True or False:

Belichick would like to demonstrate to Indy that Maroney is a potent threat via this weekend's game.

I'm calling 16/82/1, 4/22/0.

(Until Yudkin chimes in of course)

you know... this actually makes sense and would be awesome for me. But, what if he did the opposite and played him sparingly as if he were still hurt, only to unleash him on Indy? Do you remember the Seinfeld episode of doing the opposite? Where averythng george did the opposite of normal worked out for him? Thats kind of like Bill Bellichick right now...

Except if you tell Belichick he's fired, he vaporizes you with the dark side of the force. The Power of the (Darth Sidius) Hood.

I just said this to someone in the office a hour ago. Great minds think alike! At least I hope so. I think all Maroney owners would like a big week so you could sell to a Ronnie Brown owner.

BB just wants to win. Which means he'll be going with what's not broke...Brady will come out throwing 1st & 10, 3rd and 1, goaline. If Colts can stop him, we may see the running game. Key word 'may'. 2 more weeks to find out.But I would not doubt we get a preview of running game against well balanced Redskin D.

I agree with your interpretation, but if you own Maroney it means you likely took him late 1st or early 2nd. It's very tough to sit an early round pick who is healthy and not named Cedric Benson.

the biggest worry for me with Maroney right now is the fact that he has 0 receptions....for a guy that doesnt score he should at least be getting some receptions

I just said "ehhhhh, screw it" and traded for two of the uber-busts of the year: Maroney and Holt. May they turn things around starting this weekend. Playing Cleveland at home and having SJax back should help Holt. But Maroney?..... Way I figured it, though, 1. defenses will have to start doing even more than they already are to prevent the big pass play, so he should hopefully have holes to run through the size of Rosie O'Donnell's cranium. 2. He's apparently healthier than he's been all year. 3. Morris is out indefnitely. and 4. The Pats have to start running at SOME point, right? Right? :pickle:

Been considering making a move myself. What did you give up?

I did a Portis/Curtis/Shockey/Dwilliams for Maroney/Hasselbeck/Dallas Clark/Morency last weekend... not sure if that helps.

Where's Yudkin with our updates?
Agreed. I would love to hear from him on this. I know his info is solid and if he even gives the slightest hint that Maroney will see the lion's share of the carries then I am starting Maroney over Ike Hilliard (yes I know no one cares).I usually will not start a player until he comes back from injury and shows something but desperate times call for desperate measures.Give us some good news David.

Bottom line: No one expects Maroney to do ANYTHING agaainst the Skins, so start him and watch him go off for 100 and 2tds.

That said, Im starying one of Earnest Graham or Chris Henry (TEN RB) over him.

I hadn't had much contact with anyone this week. Will see what I can find out tomorrow.I suspect that the team would want to see if they could rely on him against the Colts, so he should see more carries than last week and maybe even his 15-18 that he's been getting. I would not have high hopes for him this week against the Skins, but I'll see if there's more to the story.

When Yudkin starts agreeing with my take, it means he hasn't spoken to his contact yet.lol, j/k David. Thanks.

*** SATURDAY MORNING PATS PLAYER UPDATE ***

From the grapevine:

- Maroney is set to get his usual workload (normally 15-18 carries) and maybe more (so he might hit 20) depending upon how things go and what the score/pace of the game is. On paper, he seems healthy again and all the time off should have helped his shoulder recovery. I'm not a doctor, so buyer beware on whether he is at risk of aggravating his groin injury should he go all out.

- I can't tell or find out whether Maroney will ever catch a pass or get in the end zone, so I'd take the opposite perspective and suggest he may score his first TD of the season on a reception. Since the team has not had very many goal line carries, I would not fathom a guess to whether they would pull Maroney out or not. Smart money would say he won't get the GL looks and his owners should be happy if he does get a short TD run.

- Morris may or may not be back at all this season and the team will probably wait a few more weeks to see if he starts making more progress or whether to put him on IR or not. At this point, he likely will not be back until early to mid December and may only see action the last few games of the regular season if he is able to go at all. There is a real chance that he will go on IR (can't tell you what chance that is though). As I've been saying for a couple of weeks, IMO unless people can afford to carry dead weight and have the roster space, he's not worth carrying in most redraft leagues. If there is someone on the waiver wire that you want but are struggling with who to cut, Morris is a decent candidate.

- Stallworth is fine. Looks like him being on the injury report was more due to protocol and league policy than serious health issue.

- While it is still officially up in the air and a mystery, Seymour will play against IND.

- The team hopes to have Watson back for the Colts game and at this point will likely try to push him to get back in. That one is probably 50/50% at this point. The team seems to be weighing the importance of the game vs. having him get a few more weeks to recover with the Pat's bye week coming the week after the Indy game. He's the only one that really needs monitoring for next week and I'll keep

we also have this, from Rotoworld, taken from Boston Herald:

Laurence Maroney-RB-Patriots Oct. 27 - 11:21 am et

Laurence Maroney, who was not on the injury report this week, says he's ready to take on a larger workload going forward.

"I’m looking forward to getting back out there again," he said. "Everything’s good so far. Hopefully it stays that way. Injuries (expletive). So I’m trying to stay away from them. I’m hoping and wishing." Now healthy and the Pats' primary ball carrier again, Maroney should be in store for a big second half.

Source: Boston Herald

Thanks David. I have to think that Maroney getting 15-20 carries has to be a better option at my flex than anything else on my roster. Good luck to all the Maroney owers this weekend. I would be thrilled with 75-90 rushing and a touch. Thrown in a couple of receptions and I may even be able to trade him next week!

I'm not expecting much out of Maroney until I see otherwise, buThanks for all your updates David

I am reluctantly playing Maroney tomorrow over a gimpy Frank Gore. But this article raises an interesting point about the Pats' strategy tomorrow:

MARONEY WANTS TO CARRY MORE OF THE LOAD TOMORROW

Compiled by FootballDiehards Editor Bob Harris Bob Harris | Posted Saturday October 27, 2007 @ 10:13 PT

According to the Boston Herald, Laurence Maroney, who had six carries for 31 yards in one half of play in his return after missing three weeks with a groin injury, is hoping to carry more of a load tomorrow, and naturally, remain healthy.

"I'm looking forward to getting back out there again," Maroney said Friday. "Everything's good so far.

"Hopefully it stays that way. Injuries [suck]. So I'm trying to stay away from them. I'm hoping and wishing."

As any Fantasy owners who burned a first- or second-round pick on Maroney will tell you, the second-year man is not alone on that one. ...

The good news? The Sports Xchange believes the Pats will make an effort to get Maroney more involved this week.

Washington has the NFL's fifth-ranked defense and it is particularly good against the pass. If Tom Brady has to throw the ball 40 times on Sunday, it could be advantage Redskins.

A better effort from Maroney will help keep the Redskins' pressure defense on its heels and take some of the heat off of Brady. If New England can't run and becomes one-dimensional, the Redskins have the defensive personnel to take advantage.
