Laurent Robinson - Jacksonville (1 Viewer)

It's tough to tell kids that making the NFL is a losing proposition when guys like Laurent Robinson make the GDP of Tuvalu.

Wow. I remember in 98 when Moss had that huge season and the Vikings went from an average team to a 15-1 team. There was talk then about whether or not a team needed an elite, game changing WR. The old wisdom was that WRs were secondary players and easily replaceable. You needed a QB, a RB, an OL, a pass rushing DE, and a run stopping MLB. Those were the most important positions. Now...it seems like the recent rule changes have really ramped up the importance of passing and we are starting to see the market reflect that.

Glad that the guy got his nice pay day for one season worth of work on a pass first team with no defense that was ALWAYS playing from behind.

He may not even sniff 11 TD the rest of his career combined.

He needs to send 12 million of that to Romo. Tony got him paid.

Holy over payment.

I think LRob is a fine #3, able to beat nickel backs and look really good when guys named Dez, Miles, and Jason are taking the defensive coverage... as a #1, he'll just get himself knocked around by dbl-teams and hurt -- as usual.

But hey, what's $32 mil? Chump change. Who needs to buy defense anyway?

Gene Smith is one of the 2-3 worst GMs in the league, and the new owner is too new and clueless at this point to realize it. Carry on Jags, carry on!

Great signing to get the team moved to LA. I'm sure there are more average players they can overpay and speed up the process.

It's amazing that a little over 6 months ago he was getting blasted by Chargers fans who saw nothing but speed and thought he was a bum.
Yea, I got laughed at here last offseason for thinking he had any value... got a trade offer for him yesterday and cashed in. ChaChing!

not sure how it translates to other leagues, but in a 16 team contract league with PPR for TE (.5 WR, .25 RB).... I got G. Olsen with 4 years (max of 5) and a pretty favorable salary (1.2 mill/45 mill)... for Lrob who only had 1 year with a .5 mill salary... and about the 30th rookie pick. With a big hole at TE this was a good deal for me. I offered the same deal but w/ Ridley instead of the 2nd a week or two prior.

I think going to Jax really downgrades Robinson. The TEAM had only one more passing TD than he did last season (12 vs 11)

Best :goodposting: of the week.
I'm glad he got his payday too because he's always been a hard worker and finally got a chance to show his potential. He played every bit as good or better than Dez or Miles in Dallas. But getting back to Texasmouth's comment, Laurent's splits show the followingWhen tied or ahead he had:45 targets30 receptions409 yards5 touchdownsWhen trailing he had:35 targets24 catches439 yards6 touchdownsSo the assertion that he made ALL of his hay while trailing is faulty right from the start. Also, Jacksonville's defense only gave up 1 PPG less than Dallas' last season so the point of that whole post is kind of out the window.

I'm not so sure he vanishes into oblivion the way people are predicting. He's a good player *if* healthy.

After watching Sam Hurd, Roy Williams, Ogletree, and countless others washout in that role, it was pretty indicative of his talen for him to step in and make the plays he did.

Let's see where to begin

- Did the Jags overpay for Robinson? Yeah, probably but it was a seller's market at WR. The fact is, even an average WR is a major upgrade for this WR corp. Mike Thomas is an okay #3 WR but the rest of the group needs to be smothered and scattered.

- Gabbert / Tebow - This whole Tebow to Jags has almost zero chance of happening. Yeah Khan made his remarks but he has to realize that using his picks to help out a young QB struggling in the passing game is better than using those picks to pick up another young QB struggling in the passing game. Multiple writers have tweeted that Gene Smith and the Jags front office has no interest in Tebow. Was Gabbert scared at times in the pocket? Yes, in particular Houston's rush was so fierce that I was glad Gabbert got pulled just for his own safety. I thought he showed a little better poise the last few games of the year, That said, he was set up to fail last year with no WRs, avg at best OL, a TE dropping the ball, no OTAs, and a lame-duck coaching staff. We'll see what he does this year. I just want to see some progress, not expecting him to put up great numbers.

- Jags Defense - Jags actually had a Top 5 defense before they starting losing TEN defensive backs to injury and still ended up with a Top 10 defense. They re-signed critical FAs Mincey, Lowery, and Mathis. So they should at least be able to stay in some games.

Bigger FA bust -- Meachem or Laurent?

You don't make reserve talents into your #1 WR's.

Robinson made over $11 mil this year alone. (Guaranteed $13 mil)

Meachem will be back next year in SD because his $5 mil base salary is guaranteed. ($14 mil guaranteed ...while street FA Alexander is lighting it up)

Just amazing to me how badly the front office's botched the structure of these deals. With so much up front & guaranteed monies with these 2.

And yet, the Packers will pay Jordy Nelson under $14 mil total over 4 years. (Re-signed Oct 2011)

^ cant fault the guy for playing well when it counted most financially. What WR is going to go to the Jaguars without being over payed?

I'd also bet Nelson would like rethink the deal he agreed to last October because I guarantee his agent comes calling sometime next year for a big contract extension.

^You overpay them through the structure of the contracts.

Make it nice and pretty like Antonio Brown's and backload it.

I give Meachem's and Robinson's agents credit.

The Jaguars announced Wednesday wide receiver Laurent Robinson was placed on injured reserve because of a concussion. (Updated 11/21/12)Fantasy AnalysisRobinson suffered multiple concussions in 2012, which marred his first season with the Jaguars. He was limited to seven games (four starts). He totaled 24 catches for 252 yards and no touchdowns. Robinson had some decent performances after returning to the lineup in early November, but he had no catches Sunday at Houston and was limited to 19 snaps. At least we now know why he wasn't featured much Sunday. Justin Blackmon will benefit from Robinson's absence. Feel free to drop Robinson in all seasonal Fantasy leagues.

This poor guy has had season ending injuries for almost every year of his career except last year with Dallas, if I recall correctly...
Yea the guy has talent, just cannot ever stay healthy. I cut him today in a dynasty for Edelman. I just can't see him every staying on the field, and guys with multiple concussions in a short period of time have not had a great track record of coming back lately.

Speculation that his career could be over due to multiple concussions over a short time span:

Coach Mike Mularkey admitted that he doesn't know if Laurent Robinson (IR, concussions) will play again.

Robinson has sustained four concussions in the last four months. The career of Jags LB Clint Session is likely over due to a similar string of blows to the head. "Each guy is different," Mularkey said. "Hopefully Laurent can come back from it, but I don't know. Clint hasn't yet." Robinson is owed $2.6 million in base salary in 2013.

You think they might have considered shutting him down for the year at concussion 3 no? Sad, great player, just never could stay healthy.

Meachem is a healthy bust. Robinson has looked decent in limited time but has battled 4 concussions. I don't think it is a reasonable comparison.Robinson by week:1. 5 for 662. 3 for 493. Injured4. Comes back and catches 1 for 19 before getting re-injured.5. out6. BYE7. out8. out9. 6 for 4110. 9 for 7711. Injured, IRWhen healthy he was decent, especially when you consider the poor production of that offense as a whole.
