Lawrence Jackson short term and long term? (1 Viewer)

What do you guys think of Lawrence Jackson in the short term and long term.

Short term, he is apparently already pushing Tapp for his spot and Tapp played well last year.

Long term, if he is already pushing Tapp, with Kerney getting long in the tooth, could this guy be Sea's #1 DE and a pass-rushing force/top 10 DL-type guy?

I'm liking that he's playing vs. StL and SF each year and am thinking he'll have some tasty matchups in the coming years.

I currently have him behind Kampman, Cole, Suggs, and Adams and am hopeful he could push some of these guys on my roster as early as next year.

You've got to like the fact he's already starting over Tapp.

I think Jackson's upside is Charles Grant. Assuming he becomes a solid player, he'll most likely be a 7-8 sacks/year guy.

Grant 2003, 2004, 2006 looks nice. If Jackson can stay healthier than Grant, looks like I could have a top 10 DL in the near future.

Kerney is 32 this year, gotta wonder how much he's got left in the tank...
i think he led the NFC in sacks last season, so i would say a lot... imo he could play at a high level for a few more seasons... this would mean those banking on jackson doing well will probably have to hope it comes from encroaching on tapp's snaps...

yeah, but since he's my #5 DL right now, i figure anything i get out of him is gravy. if he supplants tapp full time and/or takes over kerney at some point in the future, i'll be laughing. kampman/cole/suggs/adams is my core at DL.

Unlikely. With both Kerney and Tapp under contract for the next two years, Jackson will be rushing from the inside on passing downs until '10.
Kerney is already being limited... and just because someone is under contract in the NFL doesn't mean anything. Best player plays.Jackson could be in for a nice season.
Kerney is going to be limited in snaps because they want to keep him fresh, not because of performance. I doubt he loses enough to matter. Jackson may take some snaps from Tapp, but I don't think it will be enough to make him fantasy relevant. However, it could be enough to hurt Tapp.Long-term is anyones guess, but I am one who does not see Jackson as an elite talent.

Jackson is listed as the starter at RDE according to the depth chart on the Sea website. If--perhaps a big if--he could keep Tapp on the sidelines for the most part, do you think he has at least a legitimate shot at putting up numbers similar to what Tapp put up last year? Tapp was DL #11 in my league last year. Or, do you think it is more likely that they cancel each other out and neither cracks the top 30 this year...

This is completely false. Jackson is already made himself the starter over Tapp who has a lot of potential. Jackson has just looked like a better all around player even as a rookie. He was underestimated at USC as well even though he was a 4 year starter. The guy looks to be a very good player in the NFL for many years to come.

Which part "is completely false"? The contracts of Kerney and Tapp, or Jackson's interior pass-rush? Pick your poison b/c they're both facts.

Tapp may be under contract, but that doesn't mean that Jackson couldn't supplant him as a starter. Jackson is under contract as well, is he not?

Jackson is already starting over Tapp. However, Tapp will take his Jackson's place on obvious passing downs. This is where Jackson will lose a large chunk of his value over the next two seasons (assuming sacks are valued 3x or more than tackles in your league).Justin Tuck was able to be successful rushing from the inside last year, but I do not think Jackson holds the potential.

Well, for my sake, I hope you are wrong  But what you are saying makes sense. It will be interesting to watch how it plays out.
