Their was buzz on him from the draft and into the preseason but he got hurt in the last preseason game.

Their isn't a thread devoted just to him but he will soon be back.

With Gocong OUT and Fujita looking rusty and with a suspension still possibly an issue for Fujita, JMJ is in a good situation to start and be productive.

... Johnson hopeful: Rookie linebacker James-Michael Johnson was listed among those with limited participation in Tuesday's practice, the second day he has been able to practice after a ribs/oblique injury suffered in the final preseason game.

Johnson said he did not feel any pain or soreness, and is awaiting clearance from the Browns' medical staff to play Thursday in Baltimore. Johnson had been slated as a starter before he suffered the injury.
He's been mentioned in scattered threads and although I have no idea how he'll perform he is a player that people have sought more information about and its too difficult to track down the other threads so here ya go with an update and a place for other updates on James Michael Johnson.

Yeah I've had my eye on this guy as he was dropped in my main league after the draft. Assuming Jackson stays in the middle, what's his redraft upside?

I've always considered him a candidate to take over for Fujita and never bought into the idea he would eventually take over in the middle.Gocong signed a long-term contract last year so when he's back next season he should reclaim his weak-side LB position. Kaluka Maiava is an 'eh' fill-in and they have been rotating him with Craig Robertson and LJ Fort so Kaluka is vulnerable but I think the idea when James Michael Johnson was drafted was to be a back-up for Scott Fujita and eventually take over down the line but with Gocong out JMJ 'could' wind up on the weakside since Fujita is back but Scott has not gotten the majority of snaps so his job/role may be in a state of transition.D'Qwell is thee-guy inside. I see no scenario where JMJ would take over D'Qwell's job inside.Fujita has landed on IR at the end of the year every year he's been with the Browns. He is old and slow and gets hurt. Rookie free agent LB Craig Robertson has moved into the cover-LB role and has played both outside LB positions. James Michael Johnson will definitely be getting work and probably at both outside LB positions but his long-term job will very likely be to take over on the strong-side for Fujita and eventually (maybe as soon as this season) take his job away. The thing to look for is if JMJ begins to take snaps from cover LB Craig Robertson and what his role will be on third down. JMJ looks like he could be a three-down LB. If he gets those critical third down snaps he has some real value but don't make a mistake if he doesn't get everything thrown at him immediately. He's coming back from an oblique injury and that just seems so painful that I can't even imagine him being at full strength for awhile. I would not be suprised if the team decides to ease him in slowly where at first he splits time but I think he will wind up taking over for Fujita on the strong-side so his floor would be a starting SS LB but if he gets those critical third-down snaps and flashes some pass rush ability or gets some PDs or INTs his upside could be as an above-average SS LB but I wouldn't think he would ever have the ability to be elite.Likely he'll turn into a starting SS LB with limited pass rush and cover abilities. That's how I see it but he has to come back and claim a job first and that will be difficult enough so we'll see.

We finally have a confirmed sighting on Browns rookie LB James Michael Johnson but it doesn't look like he will be given a heavy workload. Special teams and getting some reps with the linebacker rotation.

... Ready for debut

Rookie linebacker James-Michael Johnson said he’ll make his NFL regular-season debut Sunday. Johnson, a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, suffered a ribs/oblique injury Aug. 30 in the preseason finale and has missed each of the first four games.

“I’ll be out there this week,” said Johnson, who was limited in practice Wednesday. “It’s very exciting. I’m glad I can go out there and play.

“I know I’m on special teams for sure. I’m playing a little defense, too, so I’m in the rotation somewhere. I’ll be out there.”

When asked how much he’ll play on defense, Johnson said: “I don’t know. I have no clue. I can’t call it.”

Any word on how much JMJ will play tomorrow? I've got a disaster at LB to deal with and he is my last option. I'd rather not drop him for someone else to watch him blow up in his first game.

He's coming off an oblique injury, yeowch! It has already been one month but an oblique injury are the big muscles on the sides of the torso and he got kicked with the toe of a guy's cleets in the last preseason game.

Whne it happened I thought, ow oww owwwwww. That had to be painful but in addition to immediate pain it seemed like a very deep bruise so I wasn't surpised in the last that he would miss so much time. I think that injury would still linger.

The reports indicate he will get his a shot on special teams and that he will get he feet wet in the rotation.

I don't anticiapte a huge game today. Scott Fujita is there, so is Craig Robertson, Kaluka Maiava, and to much lessor extent Fort. Robertson has taken over the cover-LB role. Fujita is still a good run defender. At best he might split some reps with Maiava on the weak side but in camp and preseason he was being used mostly on the strong side but that was before Robertson emerged and I don't see him bumping Fujita or Robertson so my best guess is he will get some work on the weakside however I wouldn't expect too much.

Definitely interested to see what he can do but this will be his very first real NFL action and he hasn't had any contact for over a month.

I wouldn't expect too much so if you have any other safer options I'd look in that direction this week.

During game. No sightings of JMJ and MLB D'Qwell Jackson was just slow getting up off the turff on a play and has to come to the sidelines.

He is being replaced by LJ Fort NOT James Michael Johnson. I would have expected Fort to sub for D'Qwell since he is a MLB but many had assumed JMJ would take over if Jackson were injured since he played the middle in college.
