LB Jonathan Casillas (NO) (1 Viewer)

One of the surprise developments in Saints training camp has been the rise of LB Jonathan Casillas, who is the new starting weak-side 'backer. After the first preseason game New Orleans decided to move longtime WLB Scott Shanle to the strong side to clear a spot for Casillas, who made 20 tackles in 11 games last season as a rookie. The Saints were expecting fifth-year veteran Clint Ingram to compete for the starting job on the strong side, but he's still on the PUP list recovering from knee surgery, and Casillas has had a solid camp.

Anything to see here, or just move along?

I think he's worth a late round pick. Not many will know his name, so you might get away with a last round pick. And most any WLB is a decent pick that late in a draft. Thats my plan for Saturday.

Is it true that Shanle would continue to be 3-down guy here?
i don't think it's been declared or even decided yet. however, as someone that follows the saints closely, i would be surprised if shanle was supplanted by casillas (or dunbar). shanle did a good job last year, as i recall, in coverage. casillas is more athletic than shanle but the edge should go to shanle in experience. his physical skills, such as a they, haven't eroded to that point yet.

I hear this over & over from Saints fans. Shanle was moved to SLB because that is where we need the most help at & Casillas is a prototypical WLB who looks like he can possibly be a slight upgrade at that position. Shanle is not being supplanted. If I had to make a bet you are seeing the current LB corps as it is. Casillas WLB, Vilma MLB & Shanle SLB. As for fantasy implications, I think Casillas is a great sleeper pick for a #3 LB.

i don't have a problem with shanle moving over to slb. nor do i have a problem believing casillas at wlb. i do hesitate to concede the nickel packages to casillas though. i see shanle staying on the field for nickel, alongside vilma. vilma stays on the field - always.
