Lee Evans (1 Viewer)

go corn

With only 5 targets in each of his two first games, I am a bit concerned about his future prodcution.

I’ve come up with four possible explanations for his lack of looks/execution:

1) Buffalo got up on both NE and MIA, and used the run game to try and run clock and keep the opposing offense off the field.

2) OC Fairchild (3 past years as STL OC – wow) and Jauron have a run and control the clock mindset that will limit Evan’s production the rest of the season

3) Evans just doesn’t have #1 WR capabilities and does not match up well with opposing teams #1 DBs.

4) It’s a new offense and it will take some time for Evans to get both comfortable in the new O and in his role as #1 WR – but he should come around.

Man, I’m hoping it’s #1 or #4, but I’m putting it out to you all to see what you think. Appreciate your feedback in advance.

Very frustrationg. Was expecting big things from him in the FLEX spot. I just know the week I give up and put him on the bench... he'll catch two 60 yard touchdowns that Sunday.

I think right now they are reluctant to let Losman go down field. With their D, I am guessing they are just tying to limit turnovers as much as possible and use the run game to eat up the clock. I don't see the Bills leading in every game so eventually Losman will have to throw deep. Against the Dolphins he threw a bomb to Evans but pass interference was called, so every now and then he takes a shot, but it won't be the norm.

Evans is learning how to beat double teams, and Losman is young and has been told not to throw into them. I think Evans will have spotty production in the first half of the season, and may turn it on in the second half.

If he made that catch for a possible TD that was called for a pass interfence, we will be ok with his game.

However, I would like to see him targeted a little more. He should be a 9+ pass target guy.

It would be VERY disapointing if he doesn't pick up the production soon. Eric Moulds played Lee's spot last season and came away with: 81 Rec 816 yards and 4 TDs

Not great #1 numbers, but a much better pace than Evans'

I would remind you that they are learning a new offense, and it can take some time. They have also played two road games, one where they led 10-0 quick, the other where the game wasn't ever in doubt.

So opportunity has not struck, the upcoming Min, DET, Chi games should require some more offense.

Isn't Evans a big play type of receiver, ala Joey Galloway?

It's feast or famine with those types of guys. He just hasn't broken a few yet, and that's the difference between 2/19 and 4/106/2. He'll have days like that, you just don't know when or against whom they'll come.

Thanks, all -- it should be interesting each week to see where his projections land.

I'm a bit nervous that, behind Boldin and Driver, I need to select from R Smith (getting old/concussions(?), K Winslow Jr (inj risk/still learning/CLE O line), M Colston (rookie), and Evans.

Hopefully, Evans starts to catch on.

That's not a bad group to choose from. I like Winslow going forward, but I think you have to play Evans.

He seems right in line with his stats from last year.
That IS true... maybe he just needs 8 weeks to get his feet wet.
Looks like he's repeating last year when he had 7 games with less than 3 catches and 30 yards.

Frankly I never understood all the hype about evans. Peerless price also looked good when he was opposite Moulds and he stunk it up as a #1 wr so why ppl were so sure evans was the real deal is beyond me.

Evans was tackled from behind by some punk CB as the ball was in the air that took away 12 fantasy points. I still think he will be fine once the Bills run into some trouble. There isn't a CB in the league, ok maybe one or two, that can keep up with him if he gets a step, hence all the double-teams. If **** Jauron gets a lead, he is as conservative as they come. I wouldn't trade him just yet...

:goodposting: Lee Evans = speed. That 12 points would have made a huge difference. He'll get those eventually. He's got serious talent. And Losman was at the helm for some of his huge games in the past.

Buffalo was ahead in both games. Their D and special teams are playing well. Losman is doing what Jauron is asking him to do, take care of the ball. Much like Pitt has done with big Ben. As long as Buffalo plays good D and can run the ball, the Bills will limit their passing attempts. Evans has the skills, he just needs the opportunity.

Forgot to add, I'd play Evans in any game where it appears they are an underdog. Funny situation, but after watching Juaron lead-teams in Chicago for a 5 seasons (don't get me wrong, I love the guy and think he got a raw deal in Chi-Town, Cade McNown? Jim Miller? Shane Matthews? Gary Crowton?), the #1 WR will get his stats in come from behind type games (see Marty Booker). If Jauron gets a lead, well, hope that Evans can turn a 2 yard screen into something nice.

It doesn't always work out when a WR goes from the #2 to the #1, but Price is a poor comparison since he switched to a team than doesn't pass much and has eye problems. I compare him more to Santana Moss, who was the #2 to Coles and did well as the #1 after he left. Evans has a ton of talent, but is inconsistent and not helped by an iffy QB situation.

Dead on. JAuron is slowly working the passing game into the offense this year. They're setting JP up to succeed, not to fail. It's not a question of skill, but opportunity. And as others have said, they were trying to pund the lead out with the running game.On another note, Reed and Parrish seemed to be targeted about 4 times each, Peerless Price 3 times. When you only have 21? attempts, there aren't that many targets to go around.
