Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! Sorry for the long post.
I have a friend, a young guy in our church. They recently moved and rented a moving truck. He got insurance on damages to the truck but not for anything else.
As he left the rental office he may have bumped another cars bumper. I say may because the rental place called him and said a lady came in and told them that he bumped her car. He is young and kind of naive and was very apologetic, etc. He went back up and there is a two inch hole in the plastic bumper of the car. He did not feel it but she said the back of the truck hit her car. May be hard to prove.
He checks with his insurance and they won't cover moving trucks.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and he gets a letter from a "lawyer" (he is checking to see if that is legit) that he owes their client $1300.00. Which includes a new bumper, painting the bumper and headlights. He said he didn't think he could have damaged their lights but that's on there. The letter was written in a way that seemed pretty threatening and a lot of you better or else type language.
He is more than willing to cover the cost but does not want to be taken advantage of. They told him that he could only contact them through the mail, which I thought was odd. So what's his move? Pay up and be done with it, wait and see if more letters show up, ask for more estimates? I don't think he has admitted that he actually did hit the car. Should he just wait out?
