Lendale White - closer to being the starter? (1 Viewer)

This is from Scout.com's "What we've been told" report which is a league-wide compilation of info based on conversations with "players, agents and team personnel." Here's the info about White:With the reigns turned over to rookie quarterback Vince Young, the Titans are on the verge of adding the reigns of the rushing attack over to rookie Lendale White. While hardly knocking the socks off the Tennessee coaching staff, White has practiced hard and warrants an opportunity in the Titans fragile backfield. A hard-runner, White could provide the Titans with a running game to take some of the pressure off of Young, who does not appear poised to be a significant factor at this time.

LenDale White-RB- Titans Oct. 4 - 7:59 pm et

Scout.com reports the Titans are "on the verge" of turning to LenDale White as their starting running back.

The second-round pick has been healthy now for two weeks and has reportedly been impressive in Titans practice since getting off to a rough start. White is an excellent pickup if he's still on your waiver wire.

I know Fisher's very tight-lipped but any Titan homers hearing anything about this after Wednesday's practice? A lot of signs seem to be pointing toward White getting the start but that's all speculation at the moment.

Interesting blurb on Travis Henry this morning:

Tennessean.com

Bad delivery: The Titans have made week-by-week decisions with their three running backs — Chris Brown, Travis Henry and LenDale White.

Henry wasn’t thrilled to be inactive against the Cowboys nor with the time he was informed.

“At least Saturday … that would be cool,” he said. “But Sunday, right before the game? We warmed up, getting taped and stuff and boom, ‘You’re down.’ I never had to go through that. Now I see how it feels …

“It’s a hard pill to swallow. My status — had been a starter, six years in the league, had done it, played hurt — and down? That was a new one for me. Let me know times are changing, for sure. I don’t know what that says for my career, but that was weird.”

Brown has started three games and missed one due to injury. Henry started that game, but was out hurt for one game and was inactive last week. White has played in each game since being inactive in Week 1.

This sound very non-commital, off the Titans website, Coach fisher's practice report:

(on the running back rotation and trying to have Chris Brown, Travis Henry and LenDale White all on the active roster)

It’s difficult just because of the roster and the special teams help. In all likelihood because of some of the guys that are still working themselves back on the practice field or into 100 percent playing shape, this decision will probably come down to a Sunday decision.

Why didn't he just make it simple and say "None of you f'n business."Talk about using a lot of words to say a whole lotta nothing.

I wish Fisher would just say something like "Well, since our QB of the future is already in there we figured we'd go ahead and start our RB of the future, too."

That would be ideal.

Unless White is a total washout (and I'm not sure we can rule that out just yet) I think it's inevitable that White will become the starter at some point this season. The question really is when. A lot of signs seem to be pointing to this week but unless somebody provides a scoop it looks like we won't find out anything until Sunday.

I have no doubt he'll be starting and getting the bulk of carries within the next month. He's the future, no doubt.Question is-how productive will he be from a fantasy perspective on a horrible team?

Even on a bad team I believe a starting RB can have at least RB3 value if he's at least an average talent. I would keep the expectations for White very modest but if he does become the clear starter (or at least starts getting a guaranteed 10-15 carries a game) I think he has some RB3 potential in that role.

From Len Pasquerelli's column on ESPN.com today:

Look for Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher to start giving second-round tailback LenDale White more carries in coming weeks. White is finally in shape and he provides more of a power dimension than either of the Titans' other tailbacks, Chris Brown and Travis Henry.
