Lendale White's Act Wearing On HC Fisher (1 Viewer)

You're correct in one sense: We would have been better off under your scenario. But you're very wrong in another: The reason that Henry was drafted is because Fisher has gone on record to say that A.J. jacked up the price during the draft.

???Smith said all along he wanted a 1st/3rd for Turner. Then he said he'd be willing to accept either '07 1st/'07 3rd, '07 1st/'08 3rd OR '08 1st/'07 3rd. I'm a big fan of Fisher but I don't think he knew what Smiths demands were all along.

"Fisher said San Diego asked for a first round draft pick in the 2008 draft as well as compensation this year."

Yeah, that's pretty much what Smith asked for all along...... a third..... and a first. How is that "upping" your demands?

Regardless, as I posted I think even giving up a first and a third then TEN would have been a much better team than they will field this season. I like the Titans and think they'll make the best of the talent they have because Fisher is a very good coach(came about 1 yard away from being a great coach) but they could have been so much better with Turner and one of the WR's in the second round instead of using that pick on Henry imo.
You're being economical with Fisher's exact words. So here they are:"Fisher said San Diego asked for a first round draft pick in the 2008 draft as well as compensation this year.

"''At one point early in the round, they actually wanted more,'' Fisher said. ''We weren't willing to consider future picks and multiple picks in the round.'' "

"When the Turner talks appeared to be going nowhere, Fisher said the Titans turned their attention to running back Chris Henry, the team's second round draft pick."

Face it, Smith got too big for his britches (breeches) after the Manning for Rivers deal, and now thinks that he can hold teams to ransom in any negotiations in which he gets involved. And perhaps you're infected with a bit of AJ-itis if you think the Titans should have given up two first-day picks (or perhaps more, if Fisher is to be believed) for a talented but unproven-as-a-starter RB when they clearly have so many needs that this year's and next year's draft will be crucial to the rebuilding project.

Well I certainly agree that what Fisher's saying is confuzing. So they wanted three picks early in the day but then "upped" their asking price to two picks???? Must be new math. I agree it's a crucial rebuilding project and I think their missing to two major pieces by not making the trade. Turner and the blue-chip-prospect 2nd round WR that was going to be available(it turned out to be Steve Smith but could have easily been Rice/Davis/Jarrett/Gonzales/Meacham.As far as Smith being "too big for his britches after the giants trade" I've heard it all before. He was too big for his britches when he held fast with his contract offer to Rivers and refused to pay him the ridiculous $ he had been asking for. He was too big for his britches when he stuck to his offer to Gates. He was too big for his britches when he processed the paperwork that eventually got Gates to sign a long term deal. He was too big for his britches when he passed over Winston Justice and drafted Marcus McNeil. He was too big for his britches when he let one pro-bowl QB walk..... so he could insert another pro-bowl QB into the lineup.

This whole "well, after the giants trade...." is tired and inaccurate. He's made a lot of good moves after the giants trade. To not see that is to be blind.

I'm sure this is completely un-interesting for the vast majority of the FBG board, but once again, you're playing it a bit loose. I'll recap, once again..."Fisher said San Diego asked for a first round draft pick in the 2008 draft as well as compensation this year.

"''At one point early in the round, they actually wanted more,'' Fisher said. ''We weren't willing to consider future picks and multiple picks in the round.'' "

I think what you're not understanding is the implied "...but then..." between the two statements, which I thought would be obviously inferred. In other words, to properly deduce the statements, let's apply a bit of syllogism...

"Fisher said San Diego [initially {this is my editorial take on the first statement}] asked for a first round draft pick in the 2008 draft as well as compensation this year.

"''[but then {see above}] At one point early in the round, they actually wanted more,'' Fisher said. ''We weren't willing to consider future picks and multiple picks in the round.'' "

I think you need to reconsider this statement: "...future picks and multiple picks in the round...".

And if you don't think Smith trades on his "gunslinger" persona that he developed after screwing the Jints, go back and re-read the original Turner thread that had a link to an article in one of the local San Diego papers that practically mythologized him as some sort of latter day Wyatt Earp when it comes to negotiating deals.

To clarify: I'm not disagreeing that the Titans would be better off having Turner and the draft picks that you indicated. I'm simply saying that in order to get Turner, based on Fish's comments we would have had to sacrifice a helluva lot more to get him, and, in the end, the team decided to roll the dice.
