Let the fans voice be heard (1 Viewer)

I think it would be an awesome way for the fans voice to be heard tonight if everyone at the draft decided to let Goodell know how we feel about the lockout. When he comes out to start the draft I think everyone there should really boo him and let him and the rest of the league know that we are a part of this too.

I just think it would be an incredible way to show the voice of the fans and I would love to see something like this happen. If you or someone you know is going to the draft then why not spread the word? It shouldn't be too hard to get this going. It will be televised on multiple networks and it will be heard through the entire league.

Spread the word. Let Goodell and the NFL know that the fans should have a voice in this too.

The voice of the fan wouldn't be a very eloquent one under your proposal. Our voice would be saying "we're a bunch of obnoxious idiots"

Here's the thing about a big group like the fans: our attitudes are all over the place with very little consensus to speak of. I'd much rather shake Goodell's hand, tell him that he runs the best league in pro sports, and wish him the best of luck in breaking the greedy, selfish players union that I have no respect for whatsoever. Good luck to the owners, I'm 100% on their side, and I don't care if they dump every single player from the NFL and start from scratch with junior-level talent. I wouldnt mind having that all televised, but I'm not arrogant enough to assume that "The Fans" all think the same way I do. Some do, some are 100% on the side of the players, some fans are in the middle, and most fans don't really care that much anyway.

I think you will hear the boos come reigning down regardless of "getting the word out". Fans are frustrated, and many of the fans who attend the draft in person each year are hardcore NYG or NYJ fans who like to booo even in years where there is no labor dispute. I'd bet on NFL security being briefed right now on how to handle this situation, as there will likely be multiple fans removed from the auditorium tonight due to being too vocal. You might be able to hear them, but you can bet that ESPN has been warned not to turn their cameras on a scene of fans being forcefully removed from their seats at the draft, and of course NFLN won't show it. I'm betting it will occur, however.

How has the NFL or the players union*, really hurt the fans at this point?

Sure I'm very disappointed not to have the normal NFL offseason news and it's painful to hear about court proceedings and posturing instead of free agent news - but it's not like they've disrupted any of our lives. Is this dispute really any of our business or concern? Those showing up for the draft obviously enjoy the event, Why show any hatred? If you really wanted to "protest" than you should show up at all.

If you want to show displeasure, just don't watch it. I don't plan to watch it. I'll catch up with the draft on the web tomorrow. If ratings go down, then they'll know that the "average Joe" is ticked off at them and maybe get the message. I doubt it, but it's what I can do besides not buying from advertisers who show advertisements during the draft and let them know why via email.

The NFL is too big to care about the avg joes. They are not arena football where they need to care about the individual fans. the NFL fan takes a back seat here because were a dime a dozen and extremely insignificant currently.

Out of 32 teams in the league, 24 claim to have waiting lists. some are as high as over 150,000 people. and the wait is not just of years, but decades.

and some teams have PSLs on top of that because the demand is out of control.

another example. Packers estimate that only 90 tickets turn over every year, a rate which would mean a name placed on the list today would be eligible for season tickets in 955 years! Seahawks are at 75 years.

First of all, if you know anything about the unruly history of jets and giant fans at the draft, it's a stone cold lock that Gooddell gets boo'd the second he comes out onto the stage. And probably often after that.

But, I think the reason that the fan's voices aren't heard, is because we have no leverage. The relationship between the NFL, the players and the fans isn't so much one of a business with their customers, as it is a drug dealer with his customers. The NFL has what we need, has what america is addicted to, and they can assume that that we will come back to them, no matter what happens in this dispute. and they are correct. There may be a tiny minority of people that take some kind of moral stand, and boycott the NFL after all of this is over. but the vast, vast amount of fans will come back to the NFl. because we love our teams. Because we love the game. Because we love fantasy sports. Because we're gambling addicts. What ever the reason, the reasons are legion that fans will come running back to the NFL the moment they start putting players back on the field. And because of that, the NFL holds an incredible leverage over the fans. The fans might make their displeasure heard at Radio City, but it will ultimately be an empty gesture. None of those boo'ers are going to boycott the NFL. They are at the draft event because they love it. So boo all you want, Gooddell won't care, as long as youstill buy tickets, jerseys and keep your tv's dialed in.

You're wrong...the fans do matter. It's why we're being inundated with 24/7 media coverage of this complete travesty, and it's why people on both sides recite talking points like its a Presidential election. Each side wants to "win" in the eyes of the fans and it couldn't be more annoying. Get your deal done and #### about it until you do.
