The Ghost of Common

Miggy and Wright and Braun? Wat? Very solid team obv.My main league is H2H. A continuing source of shame. One of the finalists this year acquired Mauer for Yunel Escobar (I'm serious) and started Lidge over Madson this week. Oy.

Possibly the sickest team ever assembled. 10 team, H2H, We keep 15

Pretty sure my sick drafting and scouting skills will have this league folding before long

12 teams, #3 seed, 6 teams make playoffs. I won round 1 on a tie breaker (ERA) and won round 2 because my opponent got cute and benched Pedro Sunday Night thinking he had it won without any more pitching and didn't want to risk losing the tie breaker.

C - Mike Napoli

C - Kurt Suzuki

1B - Prince Fielder

2B - Robinson Cano

SS - Hanley Ramirez

3B - Mark Reynolds

MI - Dan Uggla

CI - Garrett Jones

OF - Ryan Braun

OF - Jason Bay

OF - Jayson Werth

OF - Rajai Davis

OF - Carlos Gonzalez

U - Andrew McCutchen

SP - Lince K, Justin Verlander, Scott Baker, Javier Vazquez, Randy Wells, Jonathan Sanchez, Tim Hudson

RP - Jonathan Broxton, Joakim Soria, Huston Street, Dave Aardsma

Last roster spot is currently occupied by Nolan Reimold, who will likely be dropped for a streaming arm on waivers Thursday. Tough deciding which one of my OF's to drop.

Opening day roster

C - Mike Napoli $4 (target, oops)

C - Ramon Hernandez $1 (traded for initial target, Suzuki, midseason)

1B - Prince Fielder $26 (surprised he went this cheap)

2B - Robinson Cano $8 (target)

SS - Hanley Ramirez $44 (him and Lince K were the two pieces I planned to build around)

3B - Mark Reynolds $3 (target)

MI - Rickie Weeks $4 (target, as always, oops)

CI - Carlos Pena $9 (had my eye on him but surprised he was this cheap)

OF - Ryan Braun $38 (didn't mean to win Braun, was just trying to drive up the price, Grady and Holliday both went for 40+)

OF - Jayson Werth $7 (target)

OF - Nelson Cruz $6 (target)

OF - Shin Soo Choo $6 (target)

OF - Andre Ethier $6 (much cheaper than expected)

U - Denard Span $5 (likewise)

BN - Hank Blalock $1, Elijah Dukes $1 (neither survived two weeks on the roster, one was replaced by Aardsma)

SP - Lince K $31, Javier Vazquez $9 (target), Kevin Slowey $9 (target, oops), Hiroki Kuroda $2, Kenshin Kawakami $2, Randy Johnson $1 (Kuroda bounced off and on roster throughout the year, Kawakami made it until September, Unit was dumped a week after hitting the DL)

RP - Joakim Soria $13, Joey Devine $6, Mike Gonzalez $6, Joel Hanrahan $2 (Devine didn't make it to the season, replaced Gonzalez with Howell, Hanrahan survived for too long)

Auction strategy - studs and scrubs with some $5-$15 values mixed in building a team around Lince K + Han Ram, initial plan did not involve either Brewer while allowing flexibility for more $10-$15 spending. After winning both Brewers I decided to axe that figure to $10 and under. Soria was the only player I purchased for > $10 the rest of the way.

Trades

Ethier for Verlander, $$$, replaced Ethier with a carousel of guys that eventually yielded Garrett Jones

Span for Scott Baker, worked out well for both, especially because the OF carousel eventually spat out Carlos Gonzalez

Tommy Hanson, Nelson Cruz, Choo for Uggla, Broxton, and Jason Bay, Uggla and Broxton filled gaping holes as injuries ravaged my MI and RPs, had added McCutchen on the bench to fill the void left by the extra OF

Key waiver adds - Garrett Jones, Rajai Davis, Carlos Gonzalez, Andrew McCutchen, Randy Wells, Dave Aardsma, Huston Street, Jonathan Sanchez, and Tim Hudson.

Basically, I thought I could find OF's and arms throughout the season cheaply and wanted to continually trade my good but not great OF's for upgrades elsewhere, it worked...I stayed healthy...and a few of my value targets blew up.

14 team, 40 man roster, contract keeper, 6x6 (holds and OPS)

C-Pudge, Napoli

1B-Votto, Konerko

2B-Lopez,Ellis

3B-Reynolds, Wigginton

SS-Jeter, Andrus

OF-Braun,McLouth,Ichiro,Dunn, Rasmus Borbon

SP-Lincecum,Zambrano,Lilly,Ubaldo,Arroyo,Feldman, Hunter, Snell, Parra

RP-Fuentes,Aardsma,Hoffman,CJ Wilson,Affeldt, Massett

Seeing a lot of Ryan Braun out there on playoff teams.

These are the kind of things I'm looking for to help determine my keepers.

Might as well toss out roto teams too, right?

I'll hold off on my 12 team mixed auction redraft since I'm in a dogfight for #1. I have 1st in my 16 team mixed sewn up though.

C - Victor Martinez (drafted round 5)

1B - Daniel Murphy/Carlos Guillen (drafted both, Murphy late and Guillen round 13, dropped Murphy and added him back later)

2B - Chase Utley (drafted round 2, while hip was still a ? in February)

SS - Jimmy Rollins (drafted round one, resisted selling low, glad I did)

3B - Scott Rolen (drafted late, good value)

MI - Aaron Hill (potential S.O.D.)

CI - Marco Scutaro (like Rolen, drafted late, good value)

OF - Manny Ramirez (traded for in-season, have gotten very modest production post suspension)

OF - Curtis Granderson (drafted round 3, less R's and worse avg than expected but the rest was in line)

OF - Shin Soo Choo (drafted roiund 9, great value)

OF - Denard Span (traded for midseason, great production but probably lost trade)

OF - Gerardo Parra (midseason waiver pickup, solid for a 5th OF, others that filled this spot included David Murphy, Nate Schierholtz, and Marlon Byrd)

U - Evereth Cabrera (big midseason pickup)

BN - Eugenio Velez (picked him up in early August for depth, use him occasionally, wish I'd have held onto Coghlan who had this job earlier in the season)

SP - Chris Carpenter (potential S.O.D., round 14)

SP - Chad Billingsley (drafted round 6, almost exactly what I expected)

SP - Wandy Rodriguez (potential S.O.D.)

SP - Jered Weaver (traded for midseason, modest production since)

SP - Kenshin Kawakami (drafted late, decent value)

SP - Tim Hudson (midseason DL stash, only going to get ~ 35 IP's from him but they look to be good ones)

SP - Brandon Morrow (haven't even started him yet since adding him in August)

SP - Jamie Moyer (streamed him last weekend, haven't replaced him yet)

RP - Brian Wilson (only other closer drafted was Chris Perez who bounced on and off the roster early)

RP - JP Howell (added when Percival went on the DL, huge)

RP - Dave Aardsma (actually drafted him but dropped him early before re-adding him, also huge)

RP - Jim Johnson (added in June, 7 saves were what I needed to separate myself from 2nd in SV's)

Trades

-Jayson Werth (drafted round 6) + Mark Reynolds (potential S.O.D., round 10) for Man Ram mid suspension + Harang (modest production before hitting the DL), I was waaay ahead in all offensive cats sans avg and needed an arm, lost the trade but am still sitting on 62 of a possible 64 points in R/HR/RBI/SB, replaced Reynolds with Overbay then Garrett Jones then the Guillen/Murphy platoon

-McLouth (drafted round 4) + G Jones for Jered Weaver + Span, Span's been great, Weaver avg, the other owner's happy with what he's gotten I'm sure, especially since he is going to eclipse the IP limit this weekend even without Weaver. The Murphy/Guillen platoon replaced Jones.

-Drafted busts: Encarnacion (drafted round 11 - finally dropped him a couple of weeks after the Toronto trade but before he hit the DL), Joba (drafted round 7 - finally dropped him a couple weeks ago, have streamed his spot since), Slowey (drafted round 8)

-Jerry Hairston helped in-season too, dropped him when he was dealt to the Yanks, very useful at multiple positions covering injuries and players sucking

I had four big misses in the top 210 picks, but the other ten were somewhere between solid and great. This team won with the picks of Reynolds, Aaron Hill, Carpenter, and Wandy, in-season pickup's of closers and Garrett Jones + Evereth Cabrera, and good but not great late round value in Rolen, Scutaro, and Kawakami.

This team finished 3/18 in the regular season. Local league where only about half the people were active and knowledgeable.

Hitting cats: AVG, HR, R, RBI, SB, E

Pitching cats: W, K, SV, HLD, ERA

C: Pablo Sandoval

1B: Joey Votto

2B: Dustin Pedroia

SS: Rafael Furcal

3B: Ian Stewart

LF: Ryan Braun

CF: Jacoby Ellsbury

RF: Garrett Jones

UT: Carlos Quentin

(Also had Jay Bruce for most of the season but cut him due to the injury)

SP: Ted Lilly, Wandy Rodriguez, Randy Wolf, Hiroki Kuroda, Andy Pettitte, Jorge De La Rosa, Brett Anderson, Tim Stauffer, Kyle Davies, Bud Norris

RP: Rafael Soriano, LaTroy Hawkins, Arthur Rhodes, Manny Delcarmen, John Grabow, Scott Linebrink

Alright, last champ, lead's expanded to 9 points in the 12 team mixed auction, barring an epic collapse with my arms the last 10 days I should have this.

C - Victor Martinez

C - Kelly Shoppach - bought Ramon Hernandez, swapped him out when he got hurt and before Victor was traded

1B - Mark Reynolds - ugly rotation to start the year that included Tracy, Overbay, and Kotchman, eventually Reynolds got 1B elibility...thankfully

2B - this has been messy, started with Kelly Johnson, then Jose Lopez, then Howie Kendrick, and now Juan Uribe

SS - Evereth Cabrera - bought JJ Hardy, started him for way too long, 354 AB's, Cabrera replaced the bum, Jerry Hairston got some time here and spot starts at other positions while he was still a Red

3B - Marco Scutaro - Started off as Mark Reynolds, when Reynolds became 1B eligible I moved Scutaro here, have gotten 511 total AB's from Scutaro in different positions

MI - Felipe Lopez

CI - Garrett Jones, before he came around Scutaro, Hairston, and Kouz split time here

(we only start 5 OF's but I'll list the OF's and the AB's the netted as I rotated them in and out)

OF - Ryan Braun - 564

OF - Jayson Werth - 430

OF - Nelson Cruz - 406

OF - Nate McLouth - 400

OF - Curtis Granderson - 508

OF - Adam Jones - 400

UTIL - Andrew McCutchen - 360

Jay Bruce started the season in the OF, then was benched a lot before being injured until the last week, only got 155 poor AB's.

P - Javy Vazquez, Chris Carpenter, Ted Lilly, Brian Fuentes, JP Howell, and Rich Harden were the staples.

Also bought Unit, Meche, Slowey, and Joba. None panned out.

Got positive in-season contributions from Ziegler (early) and Marmol and Jim Johnson (late).

Have needed to do a lot more streaming in this league than I would've liked. A lot of guys have rotated in and out of my lineup since mid August, thankfully most of them have produced positive performances and have pushed me to the top.

Here's my playoff team

C: Russell Martin

3B: Casey Blake

OF: Manny Ramirez, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier

RP: Jonathan Broxton, George Sherrill, Hong-Chih Kuo, Ronald Belisario, Ramon Troncoso, Jeff Weaver

Bench: Juan Pierre, Ronnie Belliard, Jim Thome, Mark Loretta, Brad Ausmus
