Lets Start Our Search...Who is your Sleeper ? (1 Viewer)

I like Delhomme to make a solid comeback. He always has a positive TD:INT ratio and has more weapons around him now than ever.

I like Robert Meachem for busting out in N.O.

I like DeAngelo Williams keeping the job in Carolina.

I like Thomas Jones looking very good behind that revamped and developing Oline.

L.J. Smith: Dude was a stud in the making before his injury, according to most FF prognosticators. I can't figure out why he's been all but written off now that he's healthy again.
Maybe Kris Wilson? not sure but I do like em' both.I'm not a big fan of Philly's WRs but I probably have to temper my enthusiasm for Wilson or Smith

DeSean Jackson has over 1000 rec yds in his rookie year. I usually don't endorse rookie WRs, but I'm very high on Jackson's ability. He runs great routes, has good hands, is a beast after the catch, and is in a great situation with the Eagles. Yes, he's small, but I'm not going to hold that against him. I've tried to obtain him in as many dynasty rookie drafts as I can.

Why the Meachem love? Has he been getting buzz this offseason? Last I heard of him he was still covered in rookie turd stank. Has he shaken it?

Donald Driver...well...I guess sleeper is a bit strong of a word. But with the lack of TDs last year, and all the attention going to Jennings...I think he will have huge value and be drafted later than he has been going.

WR Bryant Johnson - A first round pick in 2003 who was injured as a rookie, and was out shined by 2nd round pick Anquan Boldin. Then in 2004 Dennis Green could not resist the kid he mentored in Minnesota Super Star WR Larry Fitzgerald. Johnson was buried on the depth chart, and really was too big to play the slot well. Now he goes to the 49ers were he gets a 1 year prove it deal, and a real good shot of becoming the teams number 1 WR. If they can get good QB play out of Shaun Hill or if Alex Smith stays healthy and progresses he could put up big numbers. Maybe 1,000 and 8-10 TDs.

I absolutely agree with you on Johnson and not just because I'm a niner homer. Well, maybe a little. God knows we need a decent #1 receiver. Playing in Martz' system Johnson will have the opportunity to be that guy. Bruce will be good for Johnson in helping him grasp Martz' offense. Still, the key to BJ's success will no doubt rest in the hands of who's QBing. I haven't given up on Smith but he surely hasn't lived up to being the #1 pick. All the different OC's he's had hasn't helped but my optimism for him succeeding is waning. Hopefully Martz' system will help him. Nonetheless, whether it Smith or Hill behind center, I think Johnson will prove by years end that SF made a good decision bringing him in. I think 1,000 yds and 8-10 td's is very possible for Johnson this year and I'm looking forward to getting him on my fantasy teams. Should be able to get him at a good spot during drafts. He'll represent good value where he'll be drafted and definitely a pleasant surprise for those who draft him.

Quarterbacks:

Kevin Kolb: If McNabb (Dare I say "When"?) goes down, Kolb should get a chance to start, and he is a talented QB.

Alex Smith: Smith has been a big disappointment thus far, but considering where he is being drafted, he could be a real value -- IF he can grasp Martz's offense.

Matt Leinart: Injuries have slowed Leinart considerably, but if he can get and stay healthy, he should easily fend off Warner. Arizona has as much firepower on offense as any team in the league, so Leinart should thrive.

Matt Moore: I don't think this is the season Moore gets his shot, but if he gets under center, he has shown he can produce. Keep an eye on Moore.

Running Backs:

Ricky Williams: He should be a guy you can pick up cheap, and if he has anything left in the tank, he could provide short-term help at the position.

Jerious Norwood: With all the focus on Turner, Norwood may slide a little. It is yet unknown whether Turner can make it through a season as a starter.

Brandon Jackson: With the emergence of Grant, Jackson has become somewhat of a forgotten man, but he is a talented young player who could be worth targeting.

Wide Receivers:

Vincent Jackson: He has shown glimpses of being a superb receiver. He has Brandon-Marshall like physical qualities.

Brandon Jones: Jones cannot seem to stay healthy, but he still could turn things around. He has all of the tools to be a good receiver.

Mark Bradley: Another former Sooner, Mark Bradley could be a good value pick. Bradley should be available for relatively cheap, and perhaps this is the year he breaks through. He is quite possibly the best wideout in Chicago.

Laurent Robinson: Robinson was fairly quiet last season, but I think he will take a dramatic step forward this season.

Bryant Johnson: Johnson finally emerges from the Fitgerald-Boldin shadow. I really like his chances to put up quality numbers in Martz's offense.

Lee Evans: Okay, not exactly a "sleeper". Evans was a disappointment last season, but don't expect him to stay down long. Evans easily could exceed the lowered expectations many fantasy owners now have for him.

Tight Ends:

LJ Smith: Smith has fallen off of too many people's radars, as previously pointed out. He could be a value pick.

Kevin Boss: Boss is not going to unseat Shockey any time soon, but he flashed enough talent to warrant monitoring. If Shockey gets injured, Boss could be a top ten fantasy TE.

Alex Smith/Ben Troupe: Smith may retain his job, but this is a battle worth monitoring. Both have some talent. Troupe has had fantasy ballers salivating for several years now, but he has failed to deliver. Perhaps this change of scenery is just what he needed.

Kevin Boss: Boss is not going to unseat Shockey any time soon, but he flashed enough talent to warrant monitoring. If Shockey gets injured, Boss could be a top ten fantasy TE.
I had not given much thought to Boss so I went and looked at what he did when Shockey was out. In 6 games without Shockey (regular season and playoffs), Boss had 9 catches for 140 yards and a TD. That would be a pace for 24-373-3 over a full season. I wouldn't rule him out as being a decent replacement if Shockey were either traded or injured, but his production when Shockey was out last year was not overwhelming.

Brandon Jones: Jones cannot seem to stay healthy, but he still could turn things around. He has all of the tools to be a good receiver.
He lacks a level of concentration like Koren did near the end of his Seattle time. There's an almost mistrust with that. I don't think he'll truly be given a chance to put up big #s. McCareins and Gage are starting til Roydell returns healthy. Paul Williams has talent they love, Ealy has a work ethic they love. That guy needs a new start somewhere IMO

Ill start this off with 1 of mine. N. burleson will be #1 or 2 guys this year and finished last year with 9 TD'S. Should have a strong year.
no offense man, but every year we go thru this, and Burleson never delivers.2007 was the perfect chance for him to breakout (with the inability of Seattle to run the ball as effectively as they have in the past) but to no avail..NB scored 9 times but caught just 50 balls...The most catches he's ever made in any single season is 68, while still in Minnesota(2004).I wouldn't count on NB for anything more than 50-60 catches in 2008..

WR Drew Bennett - Really bad year in 2007, but has put up good numbers in the past. Now the starting WR opposite of Tory Holt with Isaac Bruce gone. Al Saunders brought in as the new offensive coordinator should open the offense more(no more boring two tight end crap). Rams had some major injuries last year(Bulger, Jackson, Pace, Incognito), and if healthy the offense should be better all around. He is probably a guy who will fall very far, and you may get 800 yards and 8 TDs out of.

TE Greg Olsen - Olsen was a first round pick of the Bears last year. People laugh at the Bears, but forget that they were in the Super Bowl just two years ago(with Rex Grossman at QB). Olsen is a guy who I think should look to take the next step in this offense, and be a focal point of the passing game. I see him around 600 yards and 6 TDs at least.

QB Matt Leinart - A high draft pick who has dealt with injuries, inconsistency, and criticism for off the field activities could break out this year. For the first time he comes into the season without a brand new playbook, and he does have two of the best receiving options in the NFL. Take a shot with him in a late round, and you may find yourself a gem. Just in case he flops grab Kurt Warner too, because he played great last year.
Dude you been watching Redskins' games the past few seasons while Saunders was there? remember him coaching in KC a few years ago? thats all he knows is a TE-heavy offense with a strong running game..and Drew Bennett? thats a reach.. whats he done since that one `good` season in Tenn?? I wouldn't count on Bennett for anything but giving you ulcers, fits, and high blood pressure..

Wilson was brought in for depth. Celek is more of a threat to Smith then Wilson is.

Since quite a few people are high on Bryant Johnson I'll give a different one.

Justin Gage

2007: 55 Receptions for 750 yards and 2 TD's.

At worst these numbers remain the same in 2008 but he could be the guy that helps Vince Young get it going. I know a new OC is in town but just thought I'd throw this out there.

#11 WR in leagues awarding points for return yards.

So Burleson never delivers???You mean the Burleson that finished WR 18 this past season overal and equally as impressive WR 25 in points per week. You mean the Burleson who has a top 10 fantasy finish in his career. We are talking about a 27 year old WR that can be had for dirt cheap who has a pretty good resume. If you are expecting WR 1 numbers then you will surely be dissapointed, but Burleson can make a very nice WR 2/3 for the price you can get him.

I agree, and wouldn't be suprised to see him not make the team this year. I was just thinking of this the other day. When you count the Wr's on the team who have a shot at making it, Jones seems to be on the bubble. I still can't forget the guy dropping two game winning touchdowns last year that went right through his hands. Jones drove me crazy.

And 36-527-2 in the 2nd half of the season.

Little upset right now... I did a nice write up for this topic and it vanished... I'm just going to list and quick summary now...

QB:

Shaun Hill (SF): new offense, new weapons, and Smith will fail (Gore = PPR beast).

Jason Campbell (WAS): new young weapons (Kelly and Thomas), 20th offense in 4 years makes him underrated, PO to be a low end QB1, needs S Moss to step up.

For the future: take a look at John David Booty (MIN), and Josh Johnson (TB) because of situation.... and keep an eye out for Matt Moore (CAR).

RB:

Chester Taylor (MIN): ADP could go down again, monster Oline and enough talent to make use of it. Otherwise still a nice RB3 for depth.

Rashard Mendenhall (PIT): Prototypical PiT back, IMO best back to come out of the draft and will be at his lowest value until the end of this year.

Brandon Jackson (GB): Grant's situation not settled, and not a proven back (15 games)...

WR:

Steve Smith (NYG): Toomers time coming to an end, great PPR guy with ability for YAC, future WR2 in PPR leagues

Laurent Robinson (ATL): SPeedster with good route running ability, needs to add some muscle, but should develop with Ryan over the next couple years.

Jabar Gaffney (NE): Uncertain future (needs to prove himself this yr), but this year looking to be across from Moss, should get ample oppertunity in pass friendly offense. Not bad last year, 36/449/5 as WR4.

Thats all for now... I got my eyes on a couple others too.

Donald Driver...well...I guess sleeper is a bit strong of a word. But with the lack of TDs last year, and all the attention going to Jennings...I think he will have huge value and be drafted later than he has been going.
My gut tells me that he should have a better year with an inexperienced QB at the helm. I'm not expected much more but he'll be a solid possession receiver who Rodgers can count on and his numbers are unlikely to go down. Just about the safest pick you can make considering his ADP should be fairly low. Jennings is rated higher because of the TD's but with Favre gone you can throw those out the window.

I'll throw my hat in with a rookie. I loved this kid in college and think he has a chance at being a very good NFL type RB. I'll go with Ryan Torrian. Travis Henry is done in my opinion and while Selvin played well last year, I think Torrian is more talented and could flourish in Denver.

Gage was a walking first down last season. Read that 45 of his 55 grabs went for first downs. As pointed out above, TENN didn't even realize what they had until later in the season too. You have to expect an uptick this year.

Exactly. I don't expect stud numbers out of him...but solid safe numbers given where he will be drafted.

Good call. the 19 / 36 split is indicative of his increasing role. Lack of TDs is a small concern, but if we can expect VY to improve, I think Gage will be his "go-to" guy. More of a possession WR than big-play threat from what I can tell, but that's exactly what VY needs.

S. Morris for NE, he put up nice numbers at RB

S. Rice WR Vikings, better numbers then people will expect

A. Rogers, QB, lots of talent at WR in GB

Laurent Robinson.
ditto thatNot a big fan of the incoming WRs. I hope to target guys like Robinson after the rookie crop.Haven't targeted a RB sleeper yet; possibly Norwood could slide with the focus on Turner.

These aren't so much sleepers as guys I'm keeping an eye on.

Randy McMichael - TE - St. Louis Rams: The Rams signed Anthony Becht to help with blocking duties, which should allow McMichael more time downfield as a receiving threat.

Justin McCareins - WR - Tennessee Titans: Has taken over the role of Roydell Williams while Williams recovers from injury. He's a veteran and was successful under Fisher before.

Leon Washington - RB - New York Jets: Averaged 22 yards rushing per game and had a 5.0 YPC. I could see his role expanding more if Thomas Jones struggles like last year.

Ben Utecht - TE - Cincinnati Bengals: Could be a key cog in the offense by stealing some catches in the red zone and from the WR 3/4 positions if nobody emerges. Had 31 catches with Indy last season.

Jacob Tamme - TE - Indianapolis Colts: Could be used in 2 TE sets and seems to be a natural receiver in the mold of a Ben Utecht. Could play a similar role this season.

Marcus Monk - WR - Chicago Bears: Has great size, solid hands, and was catching everything in sight. Could be a dynasty sleeper with the chip on his shoulder at being a 7th round pick.

Jon Kitna - QB - Detroit Lions: Rumors are that Jim Colletto is letting Kitna be able to audible at the line of scrimmage and alter plays based on the defense. Could allow for improvement in defense recognition and lower his mistakes.

One down, one more to go.

K. Curtis, Last year 1100 yds and 6 tds. Last year Mcnabb was banged up and this year he will be healthy , weather or not he will be healthy all year is another story. Should Mcnabb be healthy i see K.Curtis maybe getting 1200-1300 and possibly 8-10 tds. Thats nice #'s for 6th or 7th round guy.

I like all of the players as either veterans that will improve on last years production or as interesting late rd dynasty prospects
