It's my second year playing in a new fantasy league with my co-workers. Last year it allowed 3 (yes THREE) flex players, with the idea of making it approachable to first time players. We are heading into the second season with this group, and I'm trying to convince the others to play with more traditional starting roster requiremens. The commissioner said he'd be willing to put it to a vote, but my only forum for discussion is our league message board. What can I say to these people to get them to agree with me that more stringent requirements will be better? (ie. help me write the message)

At the least, I would like them to require one starter at the TE position. I copied the current roster requirements below. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Roster Requirements

The following minimum starters are allowed per position:

Quarterback 1

Running Back 1

Wide Receiver 1

Tight End 0

Place Kicker 1

Team Defense 1

The following maximum starters are allowed per position:

Quarterback 1

Running Back 3

Wide Receiver 4

Tight End 4

Place Kicker 1

Team Defense 1

The following maximum overall (starters + backups) are allowed on a team per position:

Quarterback 4

Running Back 7

Wide Receiver 7

Tight End 3

Place Kicker 3

Team Defense 3

Total number of starters: 8

Total number of backups: 7

Total number of injured reserve: 1

Just put it to a vote on the league MB and see what happens. Majority rules.

Though I don't see it as a problem - letting teams draft and start their "ideal" roster based on the current rule structure. And let the chips fall where the may. Actually it's kind of interesting, roster flexibility wise IMO. Some leagues have 2 starting QBs or allow QBs as a flex.

I'd be more concerned w/ the scoring system (i.e. PPR spread for RB vs. WR vs. TE) If they don't buy the mandatory (1) TE request, maybe a sliding scale PPR would help the cause (.5 RB / 1 WR / 1.5 TE or something like that) - increasing the overall value of a TE.

In reality, some NFL teams really don't use their TEs as true offensive weapons (comparatively speaking) - i.e. Whitten / Gates vs. the CIN or DET TEs Sure they'll get occasional receptions, and a couple of TDs over the season, but it's not like every team significantly involves TEs in their passing attacks.

sorry, maby this should be in the asstiant coach forum, didnt read the rules

But that is exactly my point, last year the "flexibility" allowed for no team to need to draft a TE with better WR options avalable. Also not one trade was made all season! You just simply picked up a player off the WW and started 4 WR's to start. No need to take a risk on a trade to fill a REQUIRED roster spot due to injury or poor drafting. It made for a very dull season IMO.(BTW scoring is standard non-PPR) it is much less likely to get something like this going, in this league, than what was offered above.

This is what I posted on the message board:

Can we all agree it's time to -THIS YEAR- have our roster requirements include at least 1 MUST start at EVERY position this year,(IE: the TE position). I think 3 FLEX players is way to many to have a fair FF league/draft!

I suggest Required:

1@ QB

1@ RB

1@ WR

1@ TE

1@ DEF

1@ PK

2@ FLEX (RB,WR,TE)

Anyone on board.... need 5 votes to change the rule.

***= 1 vote

......need 4 more

WISH ME LUCK
