Let's Talk Jeans (1 Viewer)

My elementary school classmate. Jean was a legend. He could literally fart at will. All the rest of us thought we were funny making fart noises with our hands or armpits. Jean would politely chuckle along with us and then put us all in our place with the real deal. He was a quiet dude, too. He didn't need to be the typical class clown - he had his super power to make everyone laugh anytime he wanted to.

Jean Stapleton never referred to Carroll O'Connor by his name. She always called him "The Irishman".

When speaking about him to others, she would say, "this Irishman is something else. He's terrific."

When speaking directly to him, she would say, "Irishman how should we do this scene?" or if she called him at home and O'Connor's wife answered, she would say, "is the Irishman there, put him on the line."

I would kill for a decent pair of jeans with a cell phone pocket. Not cargo or carpenters. Just plain blue jeans. Anyone?

Charlamegne the God (talk show guy) says he never farts in his jeans. Has to go somewhere and pull the jeans down to let out the smoke. Thinks the stench stays in the denim.

I've just been rotating through four pairs of these in different colors for the last 3 years.
Ballroom dancing pants?
No, room for your balls. That part isn't why I like them - they're just durable, a good fit for me, versatile (can wear them to work but am comfortable in them at home) and have a good pocket setup for me (not cargo, but a well located cell phone pocket).

That's a boarding school joke I heard in '92. Not kidding. Around the foosball table. Some kid would claim that jeans smell like gas and would pull his pants down and flatulate. First time I heard that. That's quite the old way of thinking. Try not to eat foods that give you stank gas instead.

Or immolate your gas. Suck it up. Feel the pain. It evaporates if you do it enough.

No need to ruin good fabrics with foul **** spray.

It's weird. Compared to most people, I'm prudish though very aware of stuff.

But that said, isn't pulling down your pants to fart in private the ultimate prudish/possibly conscientious act one can make?

Like, all alone and you can't even get gassy for fear somebody might find out in some way? (Likely in an intimate way. I mean, who is smelling the asscrack of your jeans?)

But still, unless you're about throw down, do you really care?

Do @offdee and @Major even post here anymore?

I'm looking for Major, and he ain't here. Need some ridix pics. Offdee is here for the pics that rhyme with ridix if it ever gets to that.

I know, I know. Offdee has never sent ridix picks in his life.

We just need some 501s, baby.

A little bit local, a little bit average.

Hey Rock - I’ve been on a mandatory month vacation so just seeing this. I keep it simple with dark blue and black varieties of denim, normally slim/fitted and tapered. Acne Studios being my brand of choice the past 5-10 years.

.I've completely lost track of any new brands, basically since Hogan and Rag & Bone
Haha, 2004 called and wants their jeans back. I was right there with you in the East village strolling around in my $200 jeans. Rogan really set the trend back then for premium denim. I remember fashion girls would compliment them solely based on the red interior pocket. Too bad they’d fall apart in a few years of consistent wear but I definitely loved them at the time.

To my unsophisticated eyes, those jeans look pretty nondescript, yet pricey. How did you choose that brand over others?

Quality of denim and fit. I prefer minimal fashion without loud beddazlement and/or tacky logos. I have a thing for Swedish designers especially denim makers. I still wear my Nudie jeans on occasion. They’ve held up well since 2005 and years of consistent wear. No need for freezer storage either.

Fair enough. Amortized over 15-20 years, those are downright cheap. And congrats for maintaining your size over that period.

Sorry about the vacation. Thanks for the contribution, Major. :style:

Thanks man. Actually the 2000s jeans are often too big for me now mostly due to straight leg and boot type cuts and a looser style back then. An overlooked fact with designer clothes is they often retain value and easy to resell. I got $85 for an ill fitting pair of Nudies a few months back from a resale shop. Stuff like Gucci, Dior, LV, Supreme, etc is even easier to sell.

’m sure you can get used to it, but doubtful a cell phone fits comfortably in many contemporary jean front pockets.
I put my phone in the front pocket of every single pair of my jeans.
To be fair, I often leave my phone at home, as I don’t like carrying hardly anything in pockets. Even the side pocket :scream: of my climbing/hiking pants. Usually just drivers license, credit card +/- key ring with car/house keys and alarm fob.

Can’t imagine shoehorning a smart phone into the front pocket of fitted jeans though.

The CEO of Levi Strauss is settling a major debate about jeans, and how often you should be washing them.

During an interview with CNBC, Charles Bergh said you should only be washing your jeans if they are really gross - and don't put them in the washing machine.

"If I drop some curry on my jeans, I'm gonna clean it. But I'll spot clean it. And if they get really gross you know, if I've been out sweating or something and they get really gross, I'll wash them in the shower."

:coffee:

Any mention of freezers?

will really help you understand why God lets you suffer

There's your problem with my whole existential pain thing. Assume no God. That's where fashion and its reverence comes in. Imagine a less-cloying and stereotypical Bruno coming in to tell you about God and fashion. (Bruno the outrageous Sacha Baron Cohen character.)
Believe me, I lack belief in God. But that doesn’t stop me from invoking her name when I’m suffering. Clothes shopping, notsomuch.
There are no atheists in fox fur holes. Or something.

I had been wearing Lucky's for a while years ago until the quality really dropped off.
On a recommendation, I tried Levi's 511 Slim Fit Jeans and like them and pretty much just have a rotation of those right now.
I'm "obese" at 6'0 and about 210 but "slim" still seems like a good fit at 34/32 since they have a little stretch.
I also seem to lean towards the dark colors instead of lighter / bleached / weathered / acid washed / whatever they call it these days.

While its a stretch to call two bills at your height slim, you aren’t obese, just overweight, by BMI.

At some point I passed as "obese" (by BMI) to get one of the early covid shots for work travel, but thanks.
Also, the jeans are "slim fit" not slim, so basically just not baggy I guess but not "skinny" either.

I went down a r/rawdenim rabbithole late last year and ended up getting two used pairs off of Poshmark or Grailed or some such site.

The first were some Brave Star heavyweight selvedge jeans. At 22 oz. per sq. yard of fabric, they're about twice as heavy as standard Levi's. They're really thick but not stiff and have a nice slubbiness as the denimheads say. I got a straight leg cut which works well for such a heavy denim. I'll wear them more as the weather gets colder (for California).

The other pair on the opposite extreme are Gustin featherweights. They're only 6 oz. so they're very light and cool (temperature-wise). Gustin brand runs very long. I'm 6'2" and I still have to do a triple cuff. The Brave Stars are built like a tank but these are thin and almost delicate for denim. I think I'm going to run into problems with the rivets because of the thinness of the fabric.
