lets talk JERRY PORTER Possibilities (1 Viewer)

Well Porter is available and if TO is unstable and cant go cause of this situation, Porter would be a nice wr to play along side T.Glenn.

anyone else see this as a good fit?

if Porter gives back his $4 million signing bonus, and if Dallas is willing to part with a 1st round pick, then he could be a good fit... odds are stacked pretty high against it.

Can you reword the title again? I don't like "issue" in thread titles. TIA.

I could see Dallas making a move for a guy like Porter to fill that void. It's too bad Branch is already gone. I definitely could have seen Jones pursuing that route.

On the other hand Terry Glenn can be a #1 if Dallas really likes Sam Hurd as well as has been reported. He's obviously not the calibre of T.O., but I doubt Porter would be either.

I'm somewhat conflicted as to what this T.O. situation means football-wise. On the one hand, you have to think the best course of action for him would be to step away from football and the spotlight and to get the rest of his life in order. On the other hand, if you've got somebody who is supremely depressed, is it best to take away from him the one thing that might give him some sense of purpose and direction?

But I truly believe that Al Davis will pull a Marcus Allen on

Porter and let him rot away on the bench.

Which to me, is a beautiful thing. Porter is a dope.

This is pretty much the bottom line, but it will be interesting to see where this thread goes.

Why is a he a dope? Seems to me the worst thing he did wrong was he chose to work out on his own in the off season and questioned Art Shell and the Walsh offense. With regards to the former he showed up in great shape and with regards to the latter he seems to be dead on accurate.

Porter had trouble with Gruden also when he coached the Raiders.

Maybe he wants them to throw him the damn ball.....Who knows what his issue is but I doubt its a lack of talent and producing with it. He has had sucess in the past.

T.O. and $4 million might get Porter, but Moss won't play with T.O.

You are back to a first round pick and $4 million.

Won't happen.

WR Jerry Porter was critical of the team's offense during the offseason. Porter was quoted as saying, "I wanted [Detroit Lions offensive coordinator] Mike Martz as my coach and a real offense that's proven in today's NFL. Not something dusted off from a bed and breakfast in God knows where."

There could be something to DET letting Bradford go.....ROY and PORTER wouldnt be too bad with Kitna...

Who knows.....just posting what i just read on kffl.

Don't forget...he also parked in A. Davis' personal parking spot (probably the real reason he's in the dog house!). There were also rumors that Porter refused to change Davis' diaper when asked....

I have been giving some thought to picking up Porter, but can't seem to rationalize letting someone loose for this guy.

He would nt fit anywhere he is a untalented loser.
Loser or not, the guy has talent.
:goodposting: Especially when you have some in the Raiders brass wondering why he isnt out there with them. I think this will blow up in Art Shells face if the offense doesnt improve, it will show Porter was right about he was saying albeit going about it the wrong way.One way is to get something for him that they can use or put him out there so he can go to battle with them.regardless he has showed alot of flashes of being a very very good wr. Who knows what they do with him though........ Im buying low on him now as far dynasty purposes go.

Cincinnati had Chris Henry on their roster. They're playing him and he's helping them win games.

Green Bay had Javon Walker on their roster. They traded him to get some help for the team.

New England has Deion Branch on their roster. They traded him to get some help for the team.

Oakland has Jerry Porter on their roster. They're not playing him or trading him.

Lions Interested In WR Porter?

Os Davis, RealFootball365.com - [Full Article]

Today, the dominant rumor is that WR Jerry Porter will be coming to play in Detroit.

I know Porter is inactive on gamedays, but does anyone know if Porter practices with the team, or if Shell is just so fed up with him he just sits on the sidelines then, too?

Wondering because if he is traded (probably not likely) or if the Raiders do decide to play him (probably even less likely), I'm just wondering what kind of shape he'd be in and how sharp he'd be.

From my understanding, he is practicing and doing everything with the the team as a normal player. Oh except for wearing a T-Shirt w/ the middle finger. Other than that, he just like everyone else, but getting de-activated on Sunday's. Raiders are stupid...either play the guy since he's clearly one of your better offensive palyers or trade him and get something now or later that will help you.

If any of you are in deep leagues and have a roster spot to burn for 10 days I'd pick up Porter. If a trade goes down it's probably going to be a trade deadline deal. From multiple sources I've read the Raiders are ready to deal him but they just can't find the required compensation and I think it's very likely that when push comes to shove and the deadline is here they will take what they can get. I'm holding him in just about every league I'm in until the deadline hoping he gets traded.

I know the Lions were rumored to be interested and they still might come up with something but with Furrey performing well its makes me think how interested would they even be now. On the other hand I see the number Furrey is putting up and drool over the prospects of what Porter could do in that offense. Other than that, as a Porter owner, I'm keeping my eye on the Philly situation. Stallworths hammy is going to linger all year and so it appears is Westbrooks health. That offense is going to need some weapons and Porter could put up astounding numbers with them but I'm not so sure they would want another malcontent WR.

Anway, for the upside he has and since the trade deadline is only 11 days away I think he's worth grabbing and holding onto until than.

Im in a dynasty and been targeting Porter and got him in a few leagues for lil of nothing....Im hanging onto him for next year....I wish they put his as IR or OUT on the official injury report and then i could IR him in my league and deactivate him for the rest of the year.

The longer that this cluster goes on with Porter, the more it's looking like a complete lost season for Porter. The only redemption is that if he does get moved, it's to a system that he knows very well.

Hey menobrown, those were great finds, thanks for digging those up.

I just came across this. Only a rumor, but says that there's interest from Patriots and Dolphins:

Link

• Jerry Porter did not suit up for a fourth consecutive game. Time is running out for the Raiders to deal a receiver who has been at odds with Coach Art Shell from the time he had his first meeting with Shell during the off-season.

The Raiders have until Oct. 17 to strike a deal for Porter before the league trade deadline hits.

A person close to the situation said the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots have expressed interest.

Shell avoided a question on Porter after the game, saying there's nothing wrong with the Raiders offense the way it is right now.

Great finds, menobrown! Thanks for doing that work.

Al Davis is a spiteful old man - hewould probably give up on gettiung ANY value back from Porter just to allow him to languish on the bench this season and then cut him in the offseason.

TO on the Raiders would be the worst thing to ever happen to the Raiders. And TO would NEVER sign with a team like that (not a contendor). As much as I dislike TO, he is all about what happens between the stripes, abd the Raiders are pitiful between the stripes. he would bever agree to play for the Raiders and Al Davois would never abide by TO's act.

Porter to the Cowboys, or to the Eagles, or to the Pats, or to a lot of other teams makes sense - which means it is Al Davis holding it up.

As a fed up dynasty owner I am curious what everyone is doing with Porter. Seems to make sense to hang onto him until the trade deadline. What kind of real value does Porter have? He has 1000 yard potential but is pushing 30 now. What future value does Porter hold? Is it next to nothing?

Steve Corkran is a Raider beat writer for the Contra Costa Times and the guy who reported the story in the off season about Shell throwing Porter out of his office. Since than I've checked his Q&A sessions for Porter news and here are some excerpts he just posted last week.

Q: I don't see anyone questioning Art Shell on the status of Jerry Porter ? Healthy scratch. Does he really think they are a better team without him, or is he benching him based on principle ? If they want to trade him, they will need to showcase him a little, plus it would help keep team honest with the doubles on Moss. Seems a little shorted sighted on Shell's part. thanks -Tom

-Tom / NJ, Montvale, NJ 10/04/06

Tom, Us beat writers question coach Art Shell almost every day about his benching Jerry Porter. I asked Shell the other day if Porter is doing the things he needs to do to work his way on to the field, as Shell said Porter needed to do. Shell's response: "I don't know." I followed up with, "Why don't you know?" He said: "Next question." That tells me that this isn't all Shell's decision, that managing general partner Al Davis has a strong say in Porter's status each week. Therefore, don't count on seeing Porter play anytime soon and don't be surprised if he gets traded before the league trading deadline Oct. 17. Take care. Sincerely, Steve.

AND

QHow long will they refuse to play Porter it seems that teams are keying on stopping Moss and the run but if Porter was there to run some slants maybe it would keep the defense honest.

embarassed Raider fan, Valdosta Ga, 10/02/06

Embarrassed Raider fan, It appears as if Jerry Porter is going to be benched for games as long as he is on the roster. They are in the midst of seeking a desirable trade for Porter before the league trading deadline hits Oct. 17. To get a trade done, they likely need to lower their demand and accept the best offer, even if it's the rights to a mid- to low-round draft choice. As long as he isn't playing, he's of no use to the Raiders and, worse, he's a divisive force. It's high time the Raiders addressed this situation and reached a resolution one way or the other: Play Porter or trade him. This situation has lingered far too long. Take care. Sincerely, Steve.
