Let's Talk Penn State Football (2 Viewers)

This may not be good.

A new defense filing in the case involving rape charges against four former Vanderbilt players claims that current Penn State coach James Franklin contacted the alleged victim shortly after the incident, according to a report in the Tennessean.

Defense attorneys for Brandon Vandenburg -- one for four former Commodores charged with five counts of aggravated rape stemming from an alleged on-campus assault against a 21-year-old female student last June -- asked the the court to dismiss the charges because the prosecution failed to preserve key evidence.

In the filing, the defense says Franklin and strength coach Dwight Galt -- who left Vandy for the same jobs at Penn State this winter -- talked to the alleged victim four days after the rape during a medical examination.

Franklin and Galt told the victim "that they cared about her because she assisted them with recruiting," according to the filing. Later, the defense said, "Coach Franklin called her in for a private meeting and told her he wanted her to get 15 pretty girls together and form a team to assist with the recruiting even though he knew it was against the rules. He added that all the other colleges did it."

Franklin, when reached by phone on Tuesday, repeatedly said he was "not interested in talking."

The other former players charged with rape in the case are Cory Batey, Brandon Eric Banks and Jaborian McKenzie.
Where's he gonna find 15 pretty girls in Pennsylvania TENNESSEE?
Fixed because that's where it's alleged to have happened. But don't let that stop you...

I like what he did. I think he knew that his players did it and he knew her as a dance team member so he went to her to implicitly offer her support and let her know that the football program wasn't going to abandon her. I don't think he gave a crap how it looked to outsiders. And I like that about him. I certainly don't give a crap what outsiders think of our program.

I don't know where the ugliest co-ed college in the universe is, but I'm pretty confident I could track down 15 pretty girls there.

GREAT interview on Sirius/XM College Sports Radio this afternoon. Easy to see why Coach Franklin is a tremendous recruiter. Incredible amount of energy and enthusiasm.

I went to UVa for undergrad, and PSU for grad school. PSU > UVa in the ladies department for sure. This time of year was always the best...warm weather brought out the slutty outfits. Oh those Nittany Lovlies...

I got my MBA at 28-30, which means I was 8-9 years or so older than most of the ladies on campus...It felt odd when I thought about it, but I just made sure not to think about it.

I actually met my wife there, but she went straight to grad school after undergrad, so the age difference wasn't as bad.

Okay with me (because, you know, my opinion makes a difference).

When O'Brien decided to do it two years ago, I hated the idea. Then I heard his reasoning behind it and the fact that he left it up to the players, and I was okay with it.

I still thought that I would hate it visually, but when I finally saw them, I got over it pretty quickly. They're simple and they're just not that big of a deal.

I know some traditionalists have a fit over them, but they need to get over it. The provram needs to move forward and keep up a little bit. If that means putting the names on the jerseys, or hell, putting a logo on the helmet, then so be it. I'm not in favor of anything radical. I think the general simplicity of the uniforms should stay, but it can't be our fathers' Penn State forever.

No issues here either and agree with what you said, especially re. being our fathers' Penn State. Keep some traditions, and build some new ones. I will say that I'm not really a fan of putting a logo on the helmet, but it's only due to the fact that I like the simplicity of our uniforms. That said, I do think matte white helmets and some fresh blue jerseys (same blue, just some more modern fabrics or something) could look awesome.

I'm ok with it too. No logo on the helmet, though. Now, if they'd quit wearing white pants with the white jerseys, that'd be great.

What's a normal price to expect to pay for early PSU games? I'm not looking for the best seats, just seats. I looked online, but the number was higher than what I paid for Texans tickets. I've never been to a PSU game, but for some reason I had assumed it would be like going to a minor league baseball game. I guess I was WAY wrong.

scalpers on College Ave would be an option for early season games (non-B10).. you can usually talk them down as game time approaches

Last time I went to a game was in like '93 or '94 when my brother was in school there and got the ducats thru him. I imagine that 107,000 at 92% capacity (last year) would have seats available. Those who want to sell probably want a mint.

The last few early season games that went to, I drove up withput tickets. There's always plently of people selling outside among the tailgaters and you'll have no problem getting some.

I've lucked out and found desperate people selling them for $20 apiece, but expect to pay at least $40 apiece.

$40 is what I thought. On StubHub they start at $75 a ticket!! #### that.

The plan was to go with the family, so I'm not sure I want to drive all the way up there and buy scalped tickets with my daughter there. May have to think about this.

scalping tix is legal at PSU, as long as they don't sell a certain % over the actual price..

There are a lot of people who are not "scalpers". They've just got extra tickets. People couldn't come at the last minute, etc.

as a matter of fact, they have a big ticket exchange near the stadium where they get the buyers and sellers together.. it is even broadcast on the local radio pre-game show

I think the sellers have to pay a cut to the school/exchange, but I think it's free for buyers. I haven't been to a game in a few years, but I know they implemented this system for students too. You can sell unused student tickets back, but you pay a handling fee to re-sell them. Still better than not selling them at all...keeps the stadium full, and at least you get some of your $ back.

Probably not ideal for a family, but if you're willing to take general admin (student section) tix, you can always get them for face value (or less) if you wait until 5 mins before gametime. Ive been to some of the biggest games of the last 10 years, and never paid more than face value. They go from $200 a few hours before the game, to $100 and hour before the game, to $50 half hour before the game, to $20 5-min before kickoff. Just buy one as your walking up from tailgating. Meet up with your friends inside and find a spot to sit (or stand).

The game we're looking at is the UMass game. Wouldn't think it was anything special. My best friend has season tickets and he said his family is coming up and they are renting a camper or something and going to party all weekend. He said to buy tickets and we'd just party with them before and after. I may have to look into getting tickets there.

That's not a big game...if you're going to be tailgating the whole time, just go without tickets and be opportunistic. Something will pop up.

easy game to get tix.. just look for people walking around holding their tickets in the air

I told him this, like, 20 posts ago and he ignored it.

I hope his next 20 lawn mowers blow up.

Surprised CCC2 didn't tell me this. I thought he'd be a little more helpful in this thread.

I really hope you get run over by a racist Crossover driver with a lawn mower loaded in the back.
