Let's Talk Penn State Football (2 Viewers)

Usually other conferences can't fill their slots and more spots open up. I don't see any eligible B1G team not getting one.

As much as you think Delany would want to put PSU in a bowl, seems like he's just as likely to want the new guys in one as well for the increased exposure. Especially after he took a beating for adding them in the first place.

Either way, I agree PSU has nothing to worry about...Rutgers has traveled well to bowl games but there isn't going to be much demand from the fanbase to go to Detroit the day after Christmas.
They should just put Michigan in that game if they beat Maryland this weekend. It would probably sell out the game for the first time ever.
:lmao:

Call me optimistic, but the offense doesn't look to bad. A few tough breaks, but considering the last...well...seven games, and they look good. That last sack was a killer. Hackenberg look good and the line is holding up on pass protection.

the offense is awful. I'm reminded of the Wally Richardson era.

:deepexhale: Well, at least Notre Dame got their ### kicked.

I feel good about the Penn State future, though, and Franklin still has my support right now.

College Football Playoff if a team qualifies then:

Tier #1

B1G isn't sniffing the playoff so OSU, MSU & Wisky have these three locked up.
Tier #2

Maryland, Rutgers, PSU, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Illinois are left. Gotta think the Huskers & Gophers get 2 of these. I'm guessing the Terps get the 3rd one.
Tier #3

Rutgers, PSU, Illinois and Iowa left to fill the remaining B1G bowl spots. I can't imagine anyone wanting Illinois. So maybe PSU gets one of these or one another conference can't fill.

6-6 isn't what I was expecting, but that's what we are.
At the beginning of the sanction era, I read many predictions that the third year would start the slide to irrelevance. With the sanctions gone, this year is likely to be the worst year as a result of them. So I'll take 6-6, a bowl (and the 15 extra practices) and a super young team with an outstanding recruiter.

If he is such a great recruiter, how did PSU lose Brandon Wimbush?

Guys do flip. It happens.

Plus, didn't it happen the week after a particularly tough loss for Penn State, amd Notre Dame was flying high at the time?

KDKA ran a story this morning on Penn State's and Pitt's likely bowl destinations. 90% of the "story" was dreaming about them meeting in the Pinstripe Bowl in New York. There was fan reaction, etc. Then, at the very end, they said the current CBS projections show Penn State facing Duke in the Pinstripe Bowl and Pitt in the New Orleans Bowl against UL-Lafayette. :lmao:

I'm assuming you are serious, so:

1) These guys are 18 year olds. They change their minds. Guys like Saban and Meyer lose guys every year

2) Wimbush, IIRC, is more of a Pro Style Pocket passer and seeing that Franklin is more of a Dual Threat QB guy, it makes sense for a pocket passer to reconsider

3) Given the current, 5 star stud Pro Style Pocket passer has looked like hot garbage this season, due mainly to the OL but also to play calling and his decision making, it made sense for Wimbush to get cold feet

4) Given Hack's struggles, there is more of a chance he stays two more years which means longer waiting on the bench for a QB in this class

ETA: So instead we got Stevens, more of a Dual Threat, that is a 3 star and is fine if Hackenberg stays his senior year, or at least can't realistically be upset at being backup as a RS Freshman in 2016.

Just to continue, the big question is whether we can get a top Dual Threat QB for the 2016 class, with no "worries" about sitting behind Hackenberg. I think we're after two or three in the Top 150.

ETA: Last comment - Forgot we got 2016 QB Jake Zembiec this weekend. Not exactly top 150, but 3-4 star on all the services.

Wimbush threw for 430 and 4tds and ran for 98 yards last week. Had at least 2 throw that went 60+ in the air. I only follow him because a HS buddy is a qb trainer in his area.

Well, he's certainly very good and maybe he's more of a running threat then I remember. But I think the other reasons are pretty reasonable. He wants to come right in and take over from Golson. He might be able to do it even if Golson doesn't go pro next year. He would be very unlikely to do that with Hackenberg next year, and if Hack stays for 2016....

He's a hell of a QB but you really need to stagger your stud QBs by several years anyway with some decent ones in between. Of course, Hackenberg could totally #### the bed next year even with more time to adjust to the system and more experience/depth at OL and WR. But I sort of doubt it.

IIRC, Wimbush was also flirting with Stanford before he left for ND, so clearly has the brains to go to a top tier school, although PSU certainly doesn't suck academically. We'll see how he does in college, but bottom line, unlikely it was something Franklin or PSU really did wrong. More likely he changed his goals/desires for a college.
