Lienart looking good at Minis (1 Viewer)

Matt Leinart (collarbone) did not appear limited at the Cardinals' first post-draft minicamps.

Leinart has reportedly improved his dropbacks and threw the ball accurately into a net backstop in individual drills. Coach Ken Whisenhunt has stated that Warner is the heavy favorite to start this season, ahead of Kurt Warner.

I Guess he meant Lienart is the heavy favorite to start

I don't know. I think I have a rooting interest in this guy, but I think it has more to do with his WRs than he himself. I'm not all that sold as to whether or not he really gets it or not. While his off-field incidents appear minuscule, it's bothersome nonetheless.

Going into that draft with Leinart along with Young and Cutler, I looked at Cutler to be the "heavy" favorite to come out as the best of the class, and I've yet to see anything to change that opinion, diabetes or not.

We need a puff-piece thread, where we can put all the "Player X is ripping it up in shorts!!" articles.

Here's another exciting tidbit from Cards minicamp:

Last season, the quarterback got off to a slow start in part because of his drop-back technique.

On his first step away from center, "He was crossing over ... and not getting away from the center," Whisenhunt said. "And that creates situations on a five-step where he's not 6 or 7 yards deep, where he's not far enough behind the line of scrimmage.

"That makes it difficult in protection and in the timing of routes. It also makes the throwing alleys a little bit more constricted.

"That was something we really worked on last year that was difficult. He's come out a lot better on his drops."

Nice to hear that Mr. Pro Ready is getting that footwork thing down, after 4 years at USC, and two in the pros. What a joke.

As sad as it is massraider, that's about all we're going to get this time of year. But I'm with ya on this one !

Leinart is the favorite and Whisenhunt said as such recently. He has been doing alot of work studying this offseason and shown the approach they wanted him to. Til he throws for 300 somewhat regularly(as FFers say, not actual) I'll figure Warner's a reassuring possibility for Whisenhunt and with Leinart's inexperience, reassurance could very well seem like something a Coach wants.

You never give up do you? One of these years you'll be right.http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...&hl=leinart

The guy looked like a deercaught in headlights last year (Between slow reads, decision making, and constantly jogging out of the pocket, he looked like a cross between David Carr and Rob Johnson). And I am a Cardinals season ticket holder. Hopefully he'll turn it around, but the guy was Alex Smith awful in 2007. The guy doesn't have the clock most NFL QB's have in their head.

I definitely see what you guys are sayin. But first, you cant argue with the weapons he has. Arguably the most talented offense in the league. And the line, for the first time in years, kinda looked like they knew what they were doin at times last year. Dont get me wrong, they are still in the bottom half of the league, but they did show signs of light. And now they have the same line comin back this year, but now they have actually played with eachother... Leinart got another year of watching warner tear it up. But yeah, he hasnt proved much at all and looked bad at most times last year. But I'm not givin up on him yet. In week 2 he was 23-37 for 300 yards and even in 2006 he had some solid outings, not much proof at all but I think that he can produce.Call me a homer or whatever, but I'm still on the wagon thinking that he can produce and would gladly take him as my #2 QB.

Hey at least he's working on his footwork. Bledsoe was in the pros 10+ years and I'm pretty sure he never gave it a bother.
