Limited-time-only fast food items that should be brought back (1 Viewer)

A buddy brought up the clear Pepsi that was available for a bit back in the day, and then we started talking about limited-time-only items we used to be able to get at fast food places, like the McDLT from McDonalds. That was a great sammich for Mickey D's.

My favorite of all time HAS to be Taco Bell's Taco Lite from the 80s, which was a bigger than usual taco with a fried FLOUR tortilla shell. It beat the hell out of the corn tortilla shelled tacos. My buddy thought I was crazy since he never heard of it, so I did a quick google search and found it. I heard it was discontinued because the shells were much more fragile than corn tortilla shells, and they would break during the taco construction, or would crumble before the customer could eat it. Anyone remember it?

The Taco Light (AKA Taco Lite) is a limited run taco, consisting of an extra long white flour tortilla shell filled with double the meat (when compared to normal tacos), along with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and cheddar cheese. The cheese and sour cream were both special, low fat versions, which were at one time available in all Taco Bell food items for a slightly higher price. Despite being well recieved, it was discontinued in favor of the soft taco in the late 80's. It was on the Menu about 10 years.

They also had a chicken club burrito for a while in the 90s, which had chicken, lettuce, tomato, bacon and a ranch-like sauce. It was also more delicious than anything they have now, and my buddy says he remembers a BLT soft taco. All I know is Id love them to bring back the Taco Lite. Add a little guac and you had a delicious, good sized taco. Bring it back, Taco Bell!!!

Whats your favorite limited time only item from fast food joints that you wish you could still get?

HUGE fan of the taco lite/light.

If I recall correctly, there was some confusion over the "lite/light" monicur. I seem to remember that these things had roughly 500 times the fat than a typical taco. But oh, so delicious.

I used to love that club burrito or whatever it was called back in my 420 days! They had another one also was pretty good that had tater tots inside.

Yup. I read today that the "light/lite" referred to the lighter shell more than anything, even though the cheese and sour cream were low fat. It had a bigger shell and twice the meat as a regular, so theres where the extra fat come in. But man, it WAS a good taco.I dont remember McD's cheddar melt, but that commercial takes me back. "Its a good time for the great taste of McDonalds".

Anyone from So Cal remember

? Used to love getting $.19 dogs and tacos, and their french fries were awesome - they were mashed potatoes that were put into a machine and made into "fake" crinkly cut fries and then fried. Best fries ever.Pup 'N' Taco was a privately-owned chain of fast-food restaurants in Southern California, with its headquarters based in Long Beach, California. The business was begun by Russell Wendell in 1956 as a drive-in restaurant that served tacos, hot dogs and pastrami sandwiches. The first officially branded Pup 'N' Taco was opened in Pasadena, California in 1965.

The menu consisted of tacos, tostadas, pastrami sandwiches, burgers, several varieties of hot dog (the "pup" in Pup 'N' Taco) and french fries. Beverages included R.C. Cola, root beer and a variety of flavored slushes.

Ninety-nine stores were bought by Taco Bell in 1984, effectively ending the history of the chain. However, three operations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, were not included in the deal and two existed until August 2011 as Pop 'N' Taco, the same as in Los Angeles.

Thanks again, Taco Bell.

Your buddy is right. The BLT soft taco was the first thing I thought of. Ate it a ton in college. The sauce they used was to die for. I thought for sure it would stay on the menu or make a reappearance. Haven't seen it in about 15 years.

Arby's also had sourdough melts - ham with swiss cheese, or roast beef with cheddar cheese sauce. The ham and swiss was great.

Chicken enchilada grilled stuffed burrito as well. The normal burritos are too heavy on the beans and sour cream.

About 30 years ago my mother and I were driving down to Florida and ended up spending the night in what I guess was Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. We ended up getting some french fries, that Wendy's were test marketing, that had "extra potato flavoring" added. The coating was, I guess, added starch put back on the fries but did not have the batter type crust usually associated with fries done like this. Anyway, those fries were delicious enough that I walked back over to that Wendy's several times to get more, even though I was only about 13 and in a strange town; the fact that I still remember them after 30 years should mean something too. After those fries I wouldn't mind having some of the original McDonald's fries cooked in beef tallow, they were awesome too.

I loved the Taco Bell fiesta size tacos (the really small ones that only cost 39 cents)

Burger King's Italian chicken sandwich.

Of more recent vintage, McDonalds Big & Tasty.

I think they should call them Chicken McFuk-Its... because that's the mindset that caused you to go to McDonald's in the first place

Whole lotta Taco Bell in this thread. If they brought back the items listed here they'd have a kick ### menu. As far as crappy fast food goes.

The original Monterrey Ranch Chicken sandwich at Wendy's.

I think Wendy's sells the sandwich now but it is nothing of what it used to be (pre-Arbys). I rarely eat fast food but will eat it once a week if they bring the original back for a limited time.

mcDonalds triple cheeseburger :bag:
Yep. The triple cheeseburger was a promotion for Disney's Hercules movie. It was the best thing ever.
I'm not certain but I think they will make them on request. Also see the Mt. McKinley Mac, a big mac with quarter pounder patties...http://www.ranker.com/list/mcdonald_s-secret-menu-items/secret-menu-itemsActually that link has a lot of obscure nuggets

For the love of god the Shamrock Shake!

For Taco Bell, I used to always load up on Tostadas and Chili Cheese burritos when I went there, now they have neither :(

Guys that arent getting Chilitos...are you asking for them? They arent on the menus here, but I always order them and have never been turned down. Kind of one of those 'off the menu' items.
