I apologize since I'm pretty sure this question is a Honda, but apparently my search skills aren't up to snuff.
(Neither are my emoticon skills, as I can't find the Honda smiley....)
Does anyone have a quick link to a list of players who will become free agents in 2009?
For those who aren't familiar, here's a quick primer on why this is so important in keeper/dynasty leagues: The "off-season" is a time when players' values can significantly change based on team roster changes, such as free agent moves, trades, cuts and draft picks. Since free agency is really the only one that can be projected a year in advance, it's good to understand which players may be on the move next off-season and which players' values wil benefit. Here are two examples I've been able to take advantage of recently:
Example 1: In 2006, Joseph Addai was sharing time/backing up Dominic Rhodes in Indy. Because of the RBBC, Addai was fairly cheap to obtain in a mid-season trade I made with a team that really needed WR help. (An RB that shared time for a top 10-15 WR, which was a pretty even trade at the time) Rhodes' contract expired after the season and he signed with Oakland, leaving Addai as the clear #1 RB in Indy. Knowing that Rhodes would become a free agent allowed me to get Addai before he was a consensus top-5 RB, and he's now a fixture on my team. (Certainly not even value with a top 10-15 WR!)
Example 2: Last season I was able to draft Michael Turner very late and stash him on my roster for the season. I never started him, but I knew he would be looking for the big contract this offseason. While I was disappointed to see him sign in Atlanta, his value still increased in the off-season. I wasn't able to fit him into my keepers this season, but I did manage to trade him for a high draft pick before our keeper deadline, giving me a chance to maintain the increase in value he had in the off-season. A low draft pick last year was essentially traded for a high draft pick this year.
In both cases I was able to use free agency information to increase my team's total value, which is the key to winning keeper and dynasty leagues. In both cases, though, I stumbled across the FA information by accident. I'm now looking for a systemic way to get this information and use it to my advantage. Any help would be appreciated.
