I agree that both of these defenses could remain solid options going forward. Both are getting a lot of sacks and turnovers, and Denver in particular is holding its opponents to very few points. We'll see just how good Denver is as they approach the meaty part of their schedule against some tough offenses. Their points against will go up but I think they'll continue to get to the QB and should be good for a couple of turnovers per game.Yeah, Cincy and Denver were in my debate for number 5.
How would you rank the top 5 if kickoff and punt returns are put in the mix?For leagues that reward for kickoff and punt returns, you got have Philadelphia in the mix. Desaun Jackson, mentioned in another thread as possibly the best open field runner, is the extra ingredient that puts this defense into the elite category. True, they were torched by New Orleans, but against anyone else, they are a must start.
It's from horse racing... it's a horse that not much is known about (not from a prominent stable/trainer).What the hell is a dark horse anyway ?

The Bears used to rush 4 most of the time, but last year they started bringing more because they weren't getting enough pressure with the front 4. They rushed 6+ 14% of the time, which was 4th most in the NFL, and they brought 5 25% of the time, 10th most in the NFL. It just didn't work - they didn't get to the quarterback, and it was too easy for the QB to get the ball out quickly on the slant. (Numbers from Football Outsiders Almanac.) They are looking better so far this year - we'll see if they can keep it up.Limp Ditka said:pick here, but love what the Bears have shown so far this year. They rushed 4, and only 4 about 99% of the time over the last few years. This year they haven't been afraid to bring extra people early and often. It's leading to more pressure and more sacks (t4 in the league so far with 9). So far Alex Brown and AO have been great off the ends and Tommie Harris looks to be getting back into game shape and will need to have 2 people account for him if he gets all the way back. Roach is filling in well for (insert hurt LB here) and Briggs is Briggs. If they can keep the pressure coming, turnovers are likely to follow. Couple that with these two things. 1. Bears should be a lot better in time of possession this year and keep the D off of the field with a respectable QB and offense. 2. Return teams (Hester punts / Knox kickoffs), which usually go hand and hand with Ds, and it's a top 5 D rest of the way.
It's looking like there's a decent chance Polamalu returns Week 5. He's talking about this Sunday but that's pretty unlikely.GOroute said:Bills? really? hope you are right...in no order:baltsfnyj49ersminny---dont forget pitt when TP comes back.
.Watch out right now, they're the #3 D in my league already. Will be most consistent going forward IMO.Deranged Hermit said:When the NYG start getting their injured players back, watch out!
