List your top 5 fantasy defenses from here on out. (1 Viewer)

Pittsburgh was the consensus number one in most preseason rankings, but they didn't make my top 5 after three weeks. So how does your list of the top 5 look now?

Mine:

1. Baltimore

2. NY Jets

3. Minnesota

4. NY Giants

5. Philadelphia

Based on Cincy's schedule, you may want to watch them very closely. They are one of the leaders in sacks. Good things will follow.

Once.Polamalu.returns.I.think.Pitt.is.back.in.the.mix...but.not.until.then.

(sorry,my.space.bar.does.not.work.)

ETA: I know you don't care, but it works again.

Yeah, Cincy and Denver were in my debate for number 5.
I agree that both of these defenses could remain solid options going forward. Both are getting a lot of sacks and turnovers, and Denver in particular is holding its opponents to very few points. We'll see just how good Denver is as they approach the meaty part of their schedule against some tough offenses. Their points against will go up but I think they'll continue to get to the QB and should be good for a couple of turnovers per game.

I'm still drinking the Green Bay Kool-Aid. Maybe I'm just hungover from preseason. They have a soft schedule in the middle of the year with INT-prone QB's from weeks 6-12. It's tough to predict what might happen at the end of the schedule.

1. Minnesota

2. Baltimore

3. Green Bay

4. Pittsburgh

5. San Diego

Honorable Mention: Jets, but with three weeks of tape on the Sanchize I think teams will start figuring out how to throttle the offense, thus limiting opportunities for Defensive points on the other side of the ball.

Favorite dark horse: Buffalo

For leagues that reward for kickoff and punt returns, you got have Philadelphia in the mix. Desaun Jackson, mentioned in another thread as possibly the best open field runner, is the extra ingredient that puts this defense into the elite category. True, they were torched by New Orleans, but against anyone else, they are a must start.

Bills? really? hope you are right...

in no order:

balt

sf

nyj

49ers

minny

---dont forget pitt when TP comes back.

How would you rank the top 5 if kickoff and punt returns are put in the mix?

 pick here, but love what the Bears have shown so far this year.

They rushed 4, and only 4 about 99% of the time over the last few years. This year they haven't been afraid to bring extra people early and often. It's leading to more pressure and more sacks (t4 in the league so far with 9). So far Alex Brown and AO have been great off the ends and Tommie Harris looks to be getting back into game shape and will need to have 2 people account for him if he gets all the way back. Roach is filling in well for (insert hurt LB here) and Briggs is Briggs. If they can keep the pressure coming, turnovers are likely to follow.

Couple that with these two things.

1. Bears should be a lot better in time of possession this year and keep the D off of the field with a respectable QB and offense.

2. Return teams (Hester punts / Knox kickoffs), which usually go hand and hand with Ds, and it's a top 5 D rest of the way.

Others in my top 5

Viks D - Great D line that hasn't even begun to live up to it's potential will make up for a lot of deficiencies elsewhere and Harvin's going to be a great return guy.

Baltimore - The more that O get's in tune, the more leads they'll play with, the more they'll make things happen.

Eagles - Always seem to create a lot of turnovers and nothing seems to have changed since the passing of JJ

Steelers - They haven't looked great, but the schedule looks real nice for them to have some huge games (2 v CLE, @DET, @KC, OAK, @MIA)

The Bears used to rush 4 most of the time, but last year they started bringing more because they weren't getting enough pressure with the front 4. They rushed 6+ 14% of the time, which was 4th most in the NFL, and they brought 5 25% of the time, 10th most in the NFL. It just didn't work - they didn't get to the quarterback, and it was too easy for the QB to get the ball out quickly on the slant. (Numbers from Football Outsiders Almanac.) They are looking better so far this year - we'll see if they can keep it up.

It's looking like there's a decent chance Polamalu returns Week 5. He's talking about this Sunday but that's pretty unlikely.

When the NYG start getting their injured players back, watch out!
.Watch out right now, they're the #3 D in my league already. Will be most consistent going forward IMO.

New Orleans Saints

Seven of their 13 remaining games are against:

Car x 2

TB x 2

MIA

STL

WASH

And, with teams most likely playing catch-up, the opportunity for sacks/turnovers increase.

They match-up nicely if you already own NYJ or Cincy too.
