Lombardi and Harbaugh to SF - *speculation* (1 Viewer)

If Harbaugh winds up in MIA, one wonders how Mike Nolan had a hand in this. He probably gave MIA the skinny on the shoddy FO the 49ers have.

I don't blame them for not wanting Harbaugh at $8m per year. That would be a panic move to invest that type of money in a college coach, I think. Harbaugh is a hot candidate but the Niners would not be getting a Phil Jackson/Bill Belichick type guy here.

I'm in the win now crowd and am fine if they don't snag Harbaugh. But I do NOT want McDaniels.
Agreed.I think a big part of the appeal of Harbaugh is that if we don't get him....what will Jed pull out of his butt as Plan B? I have little faith in Young Yorkie. JMO

Update: Looks like the reports are the money is the issue now. Jason LaCanfora is reporting 49ers offered only 4.5 mil, Harbaugh seeking $6.5 mil. And now reports are Dolphins owner and GM are flying in to sway Harbaugh to the Dolphins for $7mil…looks like Jim may not be bringing us ring number 6….

Nothing official out of 49ers camp, but we heard from someone who was at the undiclosed location (Marriott in Burlingame) that Jed, Baalke, and Harbaugh were meeting at. The three of them and others met in one of the conference rooms. It was overheard that Jed told Harbaugh, ‘You are bringing us number 6.’ Meaning ring number 6 for the 49ers. Lots of smiles and handshakes.

Now I don’t expect everyone to believe me, which is fine. I understand. But I’m standing by my source in that the 49ers will come to terms with Jim Harbaugh and an official announcement should come soon.

I’d expect a press conference to be scheduled for tomorrow (possibly Friday), introducing both Trent Baalke as GM and Jim Harbaugh as new HC
If they're going to dish out that kind of money I'd love to see them land a "been there done that" kind of guy. Even if it's been reported they won't go that direction, who knows how things will go if Harbaugh falls through.I'm no fan of the Yorks (though I have hope for Jed) but am perfectly okay with them refusing to get into a bidding war with the Dolphins over Harbaugh. Plenty of other qualified options.

:lmao: What does that have to do with the article? Because he won't get into a bidding war with the Dolphins? It's not like Harbaugh is this proven commodity. Also from the article: The 49ers are expected to turn to Brian Billick (an NFL Network and Fox analyst), Marty Mornhinweg and other former NFL head coaches should they fail to land Harbaugh or McDaniels.

I'm sure Billick is going to be happy that they turned from a hot shot college coach to a guy that already won a ring and has loads of playoff experience...good way to start that relationship off.

What I'm saying is Billick has been out of coaching for a couple seasons, what makes him suddenly the right candidate?

This is why I hated Miami calling Gruden...if he wants the job he'll let you know. Once you lose your prime candidate you look less and less attractive to potential head coaches.

All that said, if I were a potential head coach candidate I would be running to interview with San Fran. I love the city, the fact is they play in a very weak division right now, and outside of the QB position they have a lot of talent. Great up and coming WR, decent depth, All Pro TE, Great RB, good solid young OL with new pieces in it. On defense you have a couple guys to build around. It has immense potential if they can get the quarterback position ironed out.

Miami owner Stephen Ross is losing his fan base down here so it is a desperate move to keep the Dolphins in the spotlight. Right now the Heatles are Kings of the land and fans aren't even discussing the Dolphins. Factor in New England looks to be about ready to make a nother dyansty run for the next 3-5 years and are loaded with draft picks...things aren't good down here. Honestly, I don't think Harbaugh will able to succeed here, I really don't.

One other note...taxes. $4.5 million in California will net you about $2 million. $7 million in Florida and you probably keep $4 million. We have no state taxes.

because the kid talks too big and is out of league. hired a GM too fast because he though he'd sign JH, and now is being left in the dust. Baalke is a good scout but he's also a Yorkie yes man. obviously the niners front office isnt being looked at seriously as even lame ### Josh McDaniels passes us up now.
And while several people close to Harbaugh have advised him against going to the 49ers because of their front-office structure, he has received more favorable reports on Ireland and the Dolphins.
However, sources close to McDaniels believe it's virtually certain he wouldn't go to the 49ers given their current front-office structure, and it's far more likely he would wind up with the Atlanta Falcons as their offensive coordinator should Mike Mularkey land as a head coach elsewhere.
so yes, unless he somehow signs a quality HC, Jed York is a tool

Billick has been out of the NFL head coaching game...Harbaugh has never been in it. I think that's a wash. The front office of SF has been a mess. We'll see if it changes but up to now it isn't something I imagine most HC's would want to deal with. Aside from the qb position is nice to say, but that's kind of the most important position there is. And the defense has a lot of holes. But I agree with you, overall this team has gobs of potential with the right coaching and qb. I'll be happy with Harbaugh. I'll also be perfectly happy if they pass on him at that price. I'll be okay if they snag Billick or a number of other candidates. I'll be royally pissed off if they go with McDaniels.

Harbaugh is still allegedly willing to come here if the team simply offers more $$. I'm not wild about our front office, but if it keeps McDaniels away from this team that will make me quite happy. I don't want that toolbag working with the team in any capacity.

+1 on that, def keep McDaniels away as HC, maybe OC would be a fit, but JM is def a tool I might not be able to stand for even that.Recent tweet from SJ Mecury
timkawakami‎ NFL source: Indications are that Jim Harbaugh will accept Miami's huge offer. Not a done deal, but everything is pointing that way.
who knows, well see. but I'm hoping York playing too much a role is not hurting our shots at a good HC.

With McDaniel's saying he doesn't want to coach the niners, that can be very damaging to the organization. I hope they can spin that, otherwise they will end up with Tomsula as the full-time head coach. My personal list in my priority order, if Harbaugh signs with Miami, which I believe he will:

Gruden

Holmgren

Billick

Jackson

One of us!

It is getting ugly in SF.

Pretty bad when a tool like McDaniels wants nothing to do with a team's HC job.

Harbaugh "Play by Play":

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nineri...?entry_id=80506

To review the past 24 hours (as of 9:45 p.m., which means this will be wildly outdated come dawn) as reported by everyone from ESPN to NFL Network, Fox Sports, Bay Area News Group, Sacramento Bee, CSNBA and yours truly:

Wednesday afternoon: Harbaugh sits down for five-plus hours of negotiations with the 49ers, with a handshake agreement in place on a deal worth at least $4.5 million.

Wednesday night, 7 p.m.: Dolphins owner Stephen Ross jumps in his private plane to fly west and make an "urgent plea" to Harbaugh, who then ends the 49ers meeting saying he wants to hear Ross out.

This morning: Before Harbaugh meets with Ross, he swings by the office to give Stanford one more chance to make a please-stay bid.

This afternoon: Harbaugh listens to Miami offer him one of the richest deals for an NFL coach, but declines to accept as Ross flies back home. First reports of "Harbaugh done deal" surface at 1 p.m.

Tonight, 8 p.m.: Miami pulls out, ostensibly because Harbaugh had reservations about what he was getting into.

Tonight, 9ish p.m.: Jay Glazer tweets that Harbaugh is in strong talks with the 49ers to get a deal done tonight worth $6m a year.

Tonight, 9:30ish p.m.: Glazer reports Stanford upped their offer considerably and Harbaugh was now leaning towards staying.

Tonight, 9:45 p.m.: Glazer says wake him up when the madness is over.

@Adam_Schefter RT @EricStangel By the time this is over Jim Harbaugh will be 49ers coach, GM, VP, QB a multi-millionaire & dating a Kardashian.

:lmao:

@LowellCohn This just in. Stanford has offered to change its name to Harbaugh University if Harbaugh will stay as coach.

:lmao:

This is True:

@RealSkipBayless If Harbaugh stays at Stanford, he has far more to lose than Luck. If Stanford has disappointing season, coach's stock will fall much farther
