Voted DOWN.... don't see a LB who will be 32 this May making the same impact in Was as he did as the focus in Buff.

Buff had little LB talent around him but good DB's. Was has good LB's to accompany Fletcher (Marcus Washington, Lemar Marshall & Rocky McIntosh). Fletcher will not be the only talented LB out there this season.

Wanted to add the DL difference won't make it easy for Fletcher either.

Antonio Pierce's stats in this defense in 2004 were:

Year Team G Total Tkl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def 2004 Washington Redskins 16 112 85.0 27 1 2 94 47.0 78 1 3
That was with a line that was not any better than the line they have now, and may end up being worse if Carter and Golston continue to improve in that defense and the team, as expected, adds a d-lineman through the draft. I think Fletcher is if anything a better (though certainly comparable) MLB than Pierce and is entirely capable of replicating those numbers. BTW, it bears mentioning that Marshall was playing WLB for most of that year as Arrington was injured.

I voted the same performace althought I think it is very unlikely that Fletcher will score 2 TDs again in 2007.

I expect he will perform as a top 12 LBer though as he has most of his career. Fletcher had a career year in PDs and INTs in 2006 as well. I don't expect those numbers to be repeated. So in that sense I expect his performance to drop. But not because of moving on to Washington, just because of regression to the mean.

ETA- another example of a player having a career year in a contract year here. I know there is a variety of how players perform in career years but I have been noticing some examples of very high performance in career years lately as well. This is one of them.

More food for thought: Sean Taylor had career highs in terms of tackles and assists (86, 25) and a career low of 1 INT. He was beaten deep more this past year than in his first two years.

I think he was having to spend a lot of time making sure that the front seven contained ball carriers and spent less time patrolling deep protecting against deep passes, which he excels at. With Fletcher at MLB, I think Taylor's tackle numbers will decline but his INT's will increase.

I think a little less. He had several huge games last year and I don't see them continuing.

Spikes & Crowell > Marshall and Washingtonbtw, don't expect his PD and INT numbers to repeat themselves. but, his tackle numbers will remain pretty consistent, IMO. he might add a couple sacks though.

The last three years the Redskins starting MLB (in Gregg Williams' defense) had the following number of INT's:2004 (Pierce): 22005 (Marshall): 42006 (Marshall): 0This past season was by any measurement a disaster for any number of reasons. Regardless, the MLB position certainly seems to provide some INT opportunities for the MLB. I agree that you simply can't predict TD scoring (my projections tend to not give any TD's except to a rare number of IDP's who seem most often to score, e.g. Deion when he played, or Mike Brown a few years ago) so you can't expect that from Fletcher, but I do think that an INT or two is a fair expectation.

London Fletcher played MLB in a very similar defensive system under Gregg Williams and Jerry Gray for 4 years from 2002 to 2005. In those 4 years COMBINED (played all 64 games), he had 1 INT and 14 PDs. In his first year playing in the Cover 2, he had 4 INTs and 14 PDs.I'd agree that 1 or 2 INTs from him and maybe 6 or 7 PDs is a reasonable projection. I'm just saying it's very unlikely that he'll put up 4 INTs and 14 PDs again this year.During those 4 seasons under Gray, he did have 12.5 sacks...and he only had 2 this past season. I think he could bump that back up to 4 or 5 if they let him blitz more so that would help offset the dropoff in fantasy points from fewer INTs/PDs.

I think he's still servicable, but the numbers will either go down slightly or be in the area of the same. I surely do not see them going up. The DL will hamper his numbers to a degree.

WTF? Where have I been? When did Fletcher sign w/ Washington? Is there a link to all the big signings so far this off season?

How will this effect L. Marshall? I think R. McIntosh will start this season as well. McIntosh, Fletcher, and Washington will be the 3 starters?

There is a pinned link of 2007 IDP player signings at the top of the page.

SLB - Marcus Washington

That's the win/win nature of this signing for the Redskins. They have a proven MLB who is a heady leader on the field, and they free up Lemar Marshall (who was never a natural MLB anyway) to play in his more natural OLB position, where he can spell Rocky in the nickel and fill in for Marcus Washington if he needs more time to recover from his surgeries.
