Looking for old NFL games from 70s & 80s (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Title says it all. Figured I'd have a better shot here than in the FFA.

I used to have a contact a few years back who had just about every game on tape from every week from the 70s/80s. His list showed the games he had, plus a 1-star to 5-star rating system as far as video quality.

But then my PC crashed and I lost his info.

I would love to see some old Raiders/Rams/Vikings/Redskins/Falcons/Chargers/Steelers games from the 70s, and some Dolphins/Oilers/Chiefs/49ers/Bears/Giants/Eagles games from the 80s. Any help is appreciated.

That would be cool...
Yeah... wish I could get a hookup. :( I especially want to see a game from when I was a kid. Rams/Vikings from the late 70s, I believe the game was in L.A. It was a complete MUD BOWL. You couldn't see the numbers of any players. Good stuff. If I'm not mistaken, it was a playoff game.

I think those are my favorite games, the ones with bad weather. The only games I bought from that guy before I lost his info was the SD/Cincy playoff game where the wind chill was 58 below ( :D ) and a couple of severe snow games. Tampa @ Green Bay from 1985. Steve Young vs. Lynn Dickey. Also a Monday night game from '84, Green Bay @ Denver. Each of those last two games, you couldn't even see the field. :nerd:

The game in G.B. was particularly nasty. There were severe weather alerts running across the screen the entire game.

I've looked for old Tampa games, but I can't ever find any.

:nerd:
I'll see if I can dig up the Tampa/GB game that I mentioned above. CRAZY weather. It was snowing sideways. Every play was a dive play for a gain of 1. The Bucs looked like they wanted to be anywhere else.

:nerd: I doubt there's much of a demand, but sometimes I just wish the NFL would produce a bunch of DVDs for every team -- like "1979 Tampa Bay -- the entire season" or whatever.

They might sell 20 copies of each set, but I'd be indebted to them forever. Besides, the NFL has plenty of scrilla.

Agreed.

i'd buy :D

I found a guy who has the Vikings/Rams '77 Mud Bowl I was looking for:

http://greatgames77.tripod.com/vikings.html

Two problems:

1) It appears to be a "tape trading" deal, and I have nothing to swap.

2) Several of the videos don't rate the quality.

He's got other teams on the right. Scroll halfway down the page.

Not much on the Raiders. :bag:

(12-29-79) 1979 NFC Divisional - Philadelphia Eagles vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Tampa Bay's first ever playoff game! The Bucs get strong performance from their awesome Orange Pride Defense, lead by DE Lee Roy Selmon, and a terrific effort out of star RB Ricky Bell (38-142-2... an NFL Playoff Record for number of Carries) who carries them to 24-17 win over Philadelphia - Includes halftime, commercials, and post-game (Quality 9)
:bag:

I have the entire 1985 Bears season on DVD including Playoffs and Superbowl. Most of them are pretty solid quality, a few aren't so great.

Damn, that dude has the 1985 Dolphins game with a 9 quality. My copy sucks....gotta talk to him about trading some of this stuff.

Looks like he's missing a good bit from the 1985 season as well, so I should have some stuff to give him. :banned:

I have the original broadcast of all 4 Steelers 70s SB games on DVD (they are VHS transfers, but at least they are in digital format now).

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the complete broadcast of SBIII?
They just did that game on NFL network...just before the Super Bowl. Curt Gowdy and somebody. I only caught about 1/3 of the game but I think it was the full one. Too bad...I could have TIVO'd it.The game I am looking for is the jets-Bills playoff game from the early 80's. I was at that game (Jets lost in a valiant comeback effort) and have always wanted to see it on TV to relive it.

If you're looking for Super Bowl broadcasts, try classicvideosonline.com. They have all of them except SBII and V which don't exist anywhere.

Got my SB XI disc today. No commercials, but overall the quality is on par with other videos from the era. Having it on DVD rather than VHS is nice.

Nice! Ever buy from there?
I just bought SBIII from there. Will report back within the week.
I'm happy to get the DVD, but not thrilled with the quality. It skipped SIGNIFICANTLY on all the pre-game stuff, which sux0r. Once the game started, though, there was no skippage. The quality was far from great, but I guess you should have low standards from 1969. The biggest problem was about 5 minutes of the 4th quarter was just cut out, which pissed me off.Worth the $19, but not thrilled with it.

IIRC, that missing chunk is not available on any traded copies of the game, as they pretty much all came from the same one or two sources.

Did not know that. Thanks.
