Looking into my postseason "crystal ball"... (1 Viewer)

It's time for me to make my postseason forecast and projected winner of Super Bowl LII.  Well, we all know it's hard to win on the road in the playoffs, so I give somewhat of an advantage to the home teams:

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Chiefs over Titans

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Rams over Falcons

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Jaguars over Bills

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Saints over Panthers

NFC Divisional Playoff: Eagles over Saints

AFC Divisional Playoff: Patriots over Chiefs

AFC Divisional Playoff: Steelers over Jaguars

NFC Divisional Playoff: Vikings over Rams

AFC Championship: Patriots over Steelers

NFC Championship: Eagles over Vikings (Yes, I'm already breaking the hearts of the people in Minnesota who want their team to be the first to host a Super Bowl in their own stadium!)

So, now we got a rematch of Super Bowl XXXIX set up between the Eagles and the Patriots.  Here's what I see happening.  It will be the longest game in NFL history, even longer than the Christmas Day special played in 1971 between the Dolphins and the Chiefs.  I see the game going at least into double overtime with both teams scoring at least 24 points apiece.  But, I'm having trouble picking a winner.  Could someone help me determine the outcome?

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Titans

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Rams

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Jaguars

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Saints

NFC Divisional Playoff: Saints

AFC Divisional Playoff: Patriots

AFC Divisional Playoff: Jaguars

NFC Divisional Playoff: Rams

AFC Championship: Jaguars

NFC Championship: Rams

Super Bowl: Rams

AFC Wild Card - Chiefs over Titans (Still hard for me to believe the Titans are in the playoffs)

NFC Wild Card - Rams over Falcons (Falcons have too many holes on defense and the Rams should shred them apart)

AFC Wild Card - Jaguars over Bills (I'm not sure how Tyrod Taylor is going to solve the Jags pass D and Bortles has looked pretty good at home this year)

NFC Wild Card - Saints over Panthers (Dispel the myth that it's difficult to beat the same team 3 times in one season)

AFC Divisional Playoff - Pats over Chiefs (Brady lights them up and the Chiefs can't keep up in a shootout)

NFC Divisional Playoff - Saints over Eagles (Saints are just a better all around team and present a bad matchup for Foles and the Eagles)

AFC Divisional Playoff - Steelers over Jags (Bortles has been pretty bad on the road and I don't expect Ben to throw 5 ints this time around)

NFC Divisional Playoff - Rams over Vikings (My first upset pick - just think Keenum will #### the bed)

AFC Championship - Steelers over Pats (Homer pick but AB comes back and exacts revenge)

NFC Championship - Saints over Rams (Rematch goes to the Saints as Brees outplays Goff)

Super Bowl - Saints over Steelers (Let's face it - The Steelers superbowl win was 2 weeks ago and they're already on the golf course)

I had to look at the date in your post to see if it was made before the Wentz injury.  Before that, I would have bet any amount of money it would be the Eagles/Pats in the Super Bowl. Clearly the best two teams in the league and with home field advantage, I believe both would have slated through their conference playoffs.

But as an Eagles fan, I have seen three games in a row against two terrible teams (Giants and Raiders) and a very average team (Cowboys) and they don't even look like a playoff team at this point, let alone one who could win two playoff games.

I'd put my money on Vikings and Pats. With Pats winning again, despite the Vikes playing in their home stadium.

Agree.  Eagles look like crap right now and while I could see the Saints emerging in the NFC it just seems like the Vikings year to me.  Pats in the AFC as they just seem to have the Steelers # and the other teams and just aren't good enough yet to take down the mighty Pats.

This is definitely a myth.  The reason is that most teams that face each other for a third time in the season already split the regular season matchups.  In cases where one team swept the regular season games they typically go on to win the third game.

Pretty much agree except the Conference Championship games.  I think the Rams beat the Saints and while I think the Steelers really have a good chance to beat the Patriots I sadly see Brady pulling out the victory at home in the 4th quarter.

Super Bowl:  Rams over Pats

I bet the 49ers could beat the Eagles right now.

The Eagles won't be there HTH.

NFC Divisional Playoff: Saints over Eagles

AFC Divisional Playoff: Patriots over Chiefs

AFC Divisional Playoff: Jaguars over Steelers

NFC Divisional Playoff: Vikings over Rams

AFC Championship: Patriots over Jaguars

NFC Championship: Saints over Vikings

Patriots over the Saints

So you just picked the higher seed in all 10 playoff games?  And were torn on the Super Bowl because you finally had a game where neither seed was higher? :P

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Chiefs over Titans (Titans do not belong here.  Maybe the Chiefs don't either.  But a 24-17 win for KC)

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Rams over Falcons (A much closer game than most expect, Rams score late TD to win 27-20)

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Jaguars over Bills (game is closer than most expect.  Bills keep it tight but Jags a tight one. 17-13)

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Saints over Panthers (They'll find a way to win.  Cam will put up big numbers, but this is a 33-27 Saints win)

NFC Divisional Playoff: Saints over Eagles (Close, low scoring game, but Philly just doesn't have the firepower without Wentz.  23-20 final)

AFC Divisional Playoff: Patriots over Chiefs (Crush them in the opening night rematch.  Pats win 34-17)

AFC Divisional Playoff: Steelers over Jaguars (Steelers will play better this game.  Jags will continue to look good but not great in the playoffs 24-16)

NFC Divisional Playoff: Vikings over Rams (Very very close game.  Overtime.  23-20)

AFC Championship: Steelers over Patriots (Have a feeling they win this game after that brutal loss to them last time.  AB health is the key though.  31-28)

NFC Championship: Vikings over Saints (Vikings pull out an easier win than the previous week, 24-16 to be first home team to ever play in a SB.)

SB:  Steelers over Vikings (Pitt finds a way to do it.  Vikings get out coached.  Game lower scoring than people think.  24-20)

Word is the Eagles D is fired up and the team is pissed. I think they play much better the next time you see them.

So the Steelers beat the Pats in the AFCC but somehow the Pats go to the Super Bowl anyway? A bold take, but somehow I'm sure it could happen.

:lmao: wow I totally dicked that one.  Finished it and then got doing something else and had a change of heart on the Steelers beating New England haha.

fixed.

You laugh, but he's still dining out on his winnings from the 2008 NCAA Tournament, when all of the No. 1 seeds made the Final Four

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Chiefs over Titans (I don't like the Titans and I've watched the Chiefs all year. Quality team.)

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Rams over Falcons (Gurley is a monster, Ryan, reigning MVP, has reverted back to trouble twenty yards or more)

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Jaguars over Bills (I just think they're a better football team)

NFC Wild Card Playoff: Saints over Panthers (Brees is too much, Carolina not enough weapons on the edge)

NFC Divisional Playoff: Saints over Eagles (Foles < Brees)

AFC Divisional Playoff: Patriots over Chiefs (Rematch goes the way of Brady and Gronk with Berry gone)

AFC Divisional Playoff: Steelers over Jaguars (Big Ben and Tonio and Bell are too much for even the Jaguars D, which looked pedestrian at the hands of SF)

NFC Divisional Playoff: Rams over Vikings (I just like the Rams, and like fred up there said, don't trust Keenum)

AFC Championship: Patriots over Steelers (Rematch goes the way of Belichick and company, though I liked that Tomlin, as was pointed out by the broadcasters, ditched his zone in favor of blitzing Brady. The only guys to play zone against Brady and win were the Jets when they had Revis, Cromartie, and Bart Scott and good cover linebackers at LB)

NFC Championship: Rams over New Orleans (Just think the Rams have too much firepower)

Super Bowl: Patriots over LA Rams (Dynasty takes it)

I think that saying the Eagles with Wentz and the Patriots were clearly the 2 best teams in the league and would have skated through their conferences is..I'm searching for the right word and trying to be nice.....interesting?

Eagles beat the Rams in Los Angeles. Eagles were clearly the best team in the NFC, and with home field advantage, the Patriots were the only team that stood in their way from a ring. (I still would have favored Brady and the Pats).  I don't expect a guy with "Cowboysfan" as his membername to ever admit that, though.  lol

With eagles fans , everything has to come back to the Cowboys.  Whatever ?

Anyway, those two teams would have been the favorites to come out of their conferences. To say they would have skated to the super bowl and "you would bet any amount of money on that" tells me either

A. You don't watch much NFL football

or

B. You're a blind homer

or

C. (trying to be excellent to a fellow poster so I won't type anything else)

Can we please not turn this into an Eagles/Cowboys pissing match?  This is always a fun thread.  Hopefully it can stay that way.  Yeesh.

I just figured you had Al Riveron reversing the ruling of the Steelers victory a day or two after the game and putting the Pats in the SB instead.  I could totally see that happening, and applaud your bold prediction.

This would be a classic case of the NFL trying to emulate FF instead of the other way around.

Goodell:  You know how sometimes, in my fantasy league, I win the game, but then on Thursday they change it and I lose?

Riveron:  Yes....

Goodell:  We should totally do that!  We could have viewers on the edge of their seats all week!

This is a thread about playoff predictions. You opened the thread and didn't even bother to make a prediction. The only reason you posted anything at all is because you saw someone say something positive about the Eagles so your weak Cowboy personality couldn't handle it so you thought you'd be a troll. Run along son. Like Fred said, we don't need bitter fans of non-playoff teams trying to hijack a good thread.

I figured I'd be watching TV a few days before the Super Bowl when all of a sudden, every channel would suddenly show a few seconds of static, followed by a hooded figure telling us our televisions have been hijacked.  Then, the shadowy figure would remove his robes to reveal an NFL referee's uniform underneath.  He would then intone :

"Upon further review, the ruling on the field has been changed.... THE PATRIOTS ARE NOW THE AFC CHAMPIONS !!"

Folowed by ominous music and a translucent overlay of Belichick in his hoodie and Brady in his Uggs laughing manically amidst flames.  Then a quick cut to video footage of James Harrison in Patriots gear throwing Steelers players out of their team hotel windows like the Alpha Betas did to the Nerds after their frat house burned down.  Martavis Bryant flying out a window followed by Harrison leaning out and yelling : "There's your roommate, pal !"

Must be really down on the Jags if you have them losing to the Bills and the Steelers both, not to mention that if the Bills beat the Jags, NE wouldn't play KC.

Here's what will happen: Steelers win the AFCCG in Foxboro and start prepping for the Super Bowl. On Tuesday, Riveron comes out and announces the league now believes that both the ASJ and James TDs should have counted. As a result, Pats should have lost HFA to the Steelers. So they have to replay the game in Pittsburgh during the Super Bowl bye week. Steelers think about appealing, but decide they'd rather get the extra cash from hosting another playoff game.

On Wednesday, the league goes back and reviews the Wells Report again. They decide Brady deserved an additional game on his 2016 suspension, to be served in the replayed championship game. On Thursday, Brady takes them to court. On Friday, a federal judge agrees to hear the case. She also grants Brady's request for a TRO preventing the NFL from holding any games until the matter is resolved. Emboldened, Ezekiel Elliott also appeals his suspension one more time. Jerry Jones joins the suit, arguing that the Cowboys 3-3 record during his suspension cost them a playoff spot.

The AFCCG finally takes place in mid-March, with Brady and the Pats easily beating the Cowboys (don't ask). However, the NFL refuses to give up its quest to re-suspend Brady. Over the next two months, the Super Bowl is variously on hold or scheduled to move forward, depending on what a panel of federal judges had for lunch that day. In one case, a judge literally runs out onto the field as Gostkowski is about to launch the opening kickoff, informing him that the game is once again on hold pending Brady's appeal.

Finally, on Memorial Day weekend, the NFL wins its appeal and the game is allowed to go forward. By that point, Wentz has fully recovered from his ACL surgery, and the Eagles romp to a 45-7 victory over a Brian Hoyer-led Pats team (after the Pats lose their appeal to reverse the Jimmy G trade).

How's *that* for a prediction?

Am I the only one who thinks the Panthers can beat the saints?

They have the manpower to limit the run, double Thomas and make Coleman/Ginn beat you

If Cam is on, the Panthers are going to steal this one

I see the game going at least into double overtime with both teams scoring at least 24 points apiece.  But, I'm having trouble picking a winner.  Could someone help me determine the outcome?
Judging by your predictions you should bet on the home team. Point being you have zero upsets. Although picking the Eagles to win two games may qualify.

Honest question: Has there ever been a playoffs where all the home teams won?

AFC Wild Card Playoff: Chiefs over Titans

NFC Championship: Vikings over Eagles

Okay.

Personally I agree with most of your calls but think the Bills upset the Jags and the Eagles getting knocked out in the divisional round.

Am I the only one who thinks the Panthers can beat the saints?

Sure, anything can happen in any one game and results in Game X have no bearing on Game Y.

In 7 games playing with Cam in NOS, the Panthers have allowed an average of 33 ppg including two games of 40+ points. In 57 career road games, Cam-led Panthers teams have scored 34 or more point 11 times in 57 games. Cam would need a big day and the Saints defense an off day for the Panthers to win.

Honest question: Has there ever been a playoffs where all the home teams won?
I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but in 2015 the favorites won almost every game. In the wildcard round, there were a bunch of road favorites (Chiefs, Steelers, Seahwaks and Packers) all of whom won. In the divisional round, all four home favorites won. In the CGs, both home teams won, although the Broncos were 3-point dogs to the Pats. And in the Super Bowl, of course, the Broncos again won as underdogs. So favorites went 9-2, but home teams only went 6-4.

Another thing I took into consideration was that the Eagles instantly vaulted into a Super Bowl contender when they acquired Jay Ajayi at midseason.  Team him with LeGarrette Blount, and that's a hard RB duo to stop.  I know the Saints have Ingram and Kamara, but Blount and Ajayi are the best 1-2 duo that the Eagles have had at RB ever.  Not to mention Blount was the key ingredient that led to the Patriots Super Bowl win last year.

Thanks.  I am assuming Phili will be a home dog to whoever they play.

Am I the only one who's giving the Eagles' ground game its props?  Also, they have a good defense against the run, so it will be tough for Ingram and Kamara to gain yards in the Divisional Playoff as well.

WC weekend - All home teams win.

Diviional:

Saints over Eagles

Vikings over Rams

Pats over Chiefs

Jags over Steelers

Championhip - Pats and Vikings
