Make me feel better about getting T. Holt ? :-( (1 Viewer)

All I hear now is the dreaded Bone/Bone condition fear. He's not getting better , Same as Dom Davis ( Williams ) , etc. In a 200 cap Auction league I just named him for 18 bucks as my #1A wr next to L. Evans. All this gargbage I have been hearing has me thinking theres a chance he totally bombs this season.

Anyone hear know how bad that injury really is or what the chances are he has a Holt like season ?

He has stated that he is well behind in his rehab and that his knee might never be 100%.I'll give this question the arbitrary answer of about 20%. He'll most likely be solid - just not "Holt-like".

one league i am in drafted very early and I got holt. He is now off my radar unless huge value and I hoping to trade him after a good game or two. These injuries get worse not better.

This is from a forum on another site that has a MD posting in reply to injury questions:

---------------------------------

Persistent swelling means there is something persistently wrong. It may mean that his quads are not strong enough or it may mean he has some cartilage issues. Either way, only Holt will be able to determine how "up to speed" he is. If there is still swelling, he will need to ice and even take a few days off between games. I think there is a good chance Holt will not be "100%" this year.

he reason I'd asked for the motivation to use the word "persistent" was because that could be taken 2 ways. It could refer to the fact that Holt still experiences swelling 7 months after the surgery. It could also be implying that the swelling is continuous and "persistent" as a matter of routine.

My concern was with that something might be inferred that may not be factual. All the material I've read here indicates that Holt tends to experience swelling following workouts and practices, and that the degree of swelling correlates to the intensity of the workout or practice. Sounds like an expected and normal effect to me.

I've just seen too many posts that have crazy stuff like "Give me Lee Evans instead" and it's irrational and annoying and demonstrates a total lack of understanding as to who Torry Holt is and what he's made of.

I'm not near the first one to say that Holt, with one leg at 70-80%, is still an elite wideout and better than all but a handful or so of the rest.

-----------------------------------------------------

from what i understand he's been playing on a hurt knee for several years now, so 70-80% may be an upgrade for him. I do know that i am making moves for him in all the leagues where i dont have him. I think everyone is over reacting to it, and he should put up similar numbers to last year at the worst.

-----------------------------------------------------

Hope I don't piss anyone off here with the credit to another (good) site, but seems like I need the attribution for the docs medical opinion.

BTW, I own Holt too and it scares me, but it's encouraging that no one on that site (including the MD) is saying phrases like 'bone-on-bone.' I've floated a trade to a guppy Holt for TO straight up but haven't heard back from the guy.

The bad news - he can become Dom Davis and be gone quickly

The good news - he can become Curtis Martin and stay for a few more years

I'm sure there are different levels of severity of this bone-on-bone condition. Only Holt can decide how much longer he can go in his career. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

I've got Holt on 2 teams - unfortunately in my "main" league we drafted last weekend right before the news broke on how bad he off he was so it puts a hurt on me. But the only saving grace - and I know this isn't the same injury - is that I had Winslow last season and even though he never really practiced, he played well. Like a post above said, he won't be "Holt-like" which sucks, but you have to think that 75% of Torry Holt is still a decent #2 WR, no?

Sorry BeachBums but even Holt at 80% will not be elite. There is simply no argument there. He'll be solid, but no way is he still elite if he's only 80%.

And there is a VERY good chance that he misses some games/snaps due to swelling and inflammation this year.

Just hopping in to say I traded both Holt and Leftwich this offseason.

:blackdot:

Hope he works out for you, though.

I seem to remember a similar situation with Marshall Faulk for a couple of years where I would avoid him thinking this is the year his knee(s) give out, but he just kept producing. It's just too hard to predict how anyone will respond to these sorts of injuries. He could be fine for a few more years, who knows. I'm just glad I grabbed Bruce in the late rounds.

Well looked at preseason game 1 and 2 and the guy is getting tons of targets still and looking decent ! Maybe he is feeling better than last season. I haven' theard anywhere where he isn't going to play so we will see I guess

Shoulda made it clearer in my post, but only the first bit and the last part about attributing ffchamps.com and me owning him (in a money league) and trying to trade was written by me. I included the rest to make the OP 'feel better' (maybe 80 percent is pretty good) as he requested.
