Making the "Change" (1 Viewer)

Hello,

My FFL has decided this year to change from a Standard Draft all new players to a Keeper league this year, this concerns me a bit because instead of starting the league with the understanding of it being a keeper league they want everyone to keep 2 or 3 of our previous years players.

Does anyone here have any suggestions or experience on how they changed to keeper?

What would be the ideal setup of a keeper league?

Thanks

I can't imagine how you can change a league from ReDraft to Keeper using rosters drafted w/o the knowledge this was coming. It completely changes draft approach, as well as any transactions you might make during a season.

I run a league that is changing from ReDraft to Keeper for '08, we never once considered using last years rosters. Too big of a change in strategy. We're starting fresh as a keeper beginning with this years draft. The best way to go, for sure.

thats what we did also, I thought it kinda sucked but I had a couple good guys so I didn't care. It was 8 years ago so it doesn't really matter now I guess.Obviously ideally you would draft from scratch and pick your keepers next year.

That just seems a little too shady for me. I'm betting some team with Randy Moss or Adrian Peterson came up with the idea for teams to keep their players from a redraft league last season. If everybody agrees with it then that's the way it has to be. I seriously doubt that'll be the case but whatever.

Agree completely with this post. We changed from redraft to dynasty but gave a unique option. We allowed those who didnt want tokeep someone from thier own team to select from other teams after those teams had selected their keeper.BUT, the best option is giving a years notice before a switch. At the very least though you want the option of keeping a player that may be on someone elses team and not being kept. (only for the first year since you didnt get to plan for it)

It should be standard procedure that no major changes are made to a league without enough advance notice that already made decisions are not impacted, or at least keeping the impact as minor as possible.

Those saying the league should once again redraft, with the knowledge it will go keeper after that redraft, have it right.

is there time to get this changed? how many owners are against this?

my main league has gone through all kinds of rule changes and, at times, change has come about later in the game than what's ideal. in those situations, it's been things that most owners wanted and any 1 person that was adamantly against the change could squash it.

it sounds like many in your league are pushing for this. i'd suggest putting it to a vote that needs 3/4 to pass. if you can't kill it by making a stink on your own, they may agree to a 3/4 vote.

we all know that rules should be laid out well in advance, but that doesn't always happen.

Agreed with the majority opinion here. Try to get one more "clean" draft that will then be the first Keeper Roster. We pulled the old "let's just start Keepers from last years roster....ready, GO!" thing. It sucked. I've been digging myself out of that hole for 5 seaons =).

If you're the only voice of reason, don't sweat it. It won't make much difference eventually (depending on how MANY keeper slots they are going to).

Another option is for the first year to go off the +1 rule. If you've got last years draft recorded, allow the keepers at the cost of the round taken +1. So, all 1st round picks go back into the pool. Anyone taken in the 2nd can be a keeper, at the cost of that person's 1st round pick THIS year. Just another idea.

I hate keeper leagues personally. Either go full redraft or full dynasty. That is a different discussion.

Your league has some major flaws if they want to make this change based on the rosters from last year when it was not a keeper just like everyone else has said. I would be very forceful in saying it starts with a completely new draft or I would leave the league plain and simple. I want no part of any league that will change rules mid stream like this.

I agree this is BS. Redraft it this year and then have keepers next year so you can take it into account when drafting.

I suggest doing a 1 or 2 keeper set up (max) to start - we did 1 keeper for awhile and I liked it but would have preferred 2 or 3 - but it was still worthwhile.
