Malcolm Jenkins to move to FS maybe (1 Viewer)

Saints beat writer Mike Triplett believes the team would prefer to keep Malcolm Jenkins at cornerback moving forward.

Cornerback is the more premium position, but there are plenty of reasons to think Jenkins might ultimately land at free safety. Darren Sharper is a free agent, Jenkins has ideal safety size and speed, and New Orleans is very deep at corner. Jenkins won't overtake Jabari Greer or Tracy Porter to start

DOES ANYONE SEE THIS AS A GOOD POSSABILITY? I HOPE SO. I HAVE HIM ON MY SAINTS DYNASTY 32 LEAGUE. AND IT WOULD HELP MY TEAM OVERALL IF JENKINS MOVED TO SAFETY.

Anybody in New Orleans have some insight on whether Sharper stays there?

I'm trying to decide if Jenkins is worth holding onto.

Sharper signed a 1-yr contract to stay with NO.

i wouldn't expect him to have anything approaching the season he had last year. he's coming off injury and isn't playing for anything more than another SB ring in all likelihood. NO will want to get some of the younger players - young, vaughn, jenkins maybe - some playing time and groom them for the eventual starting role. opposing teams will also have lots of tape to review and prepare against the NO defense.

from the OTA's, reported by the Times-Pic/NOLA.com

Here are some quick observations, with plenty more to come throughout the day:- Malcolm Jenkins has officially moved from cornerback to free safety. He was working with the second-team defense while Usama Yoing ran with the 1s at free safety. Veteran Darren Sharper isn't expected to practice until training camp as he recovers from knee surgery. The Jenkins move isn't that significant, since the second-year pro will likely be used most often in nickel and dime packages as an inside defensive back - the same as he was last year. But in the bigger picture, it looks like Jenkins is being groomed to take over as Sharper's eventual replacement.- Jo-Lonn Dunbar lined up with the first-string defense at outside linebacker. That competition is far from over, though. To win the job, Dunbar will have to fend off newly-signed veteran Clint Ingram, who is recovering from his own knee surgery, as well as returning Saints like Jonathan Casillas and Stanley Arnoux. ... But Dunbar will have a great opportunity this summer to prove he belongs with the starting D.- Newly-signed defensive end Alex Brown was with the second team, while incumbents Will Smith and Bobby McCray lined up with the first string. That's typical at this time of the year - the veterans stay with the starters while the newcomers are still learning the defense. Eventually Brown is expected to be the starter at left end, while McCray returns to his role as a situational pass-rush specialist.
