Just curious to see how other Floyd owners feel about this guy. He's done squat so far this season even though Gates has been out and VJax missed most of the second half against the Dolphins. I realize he's banged up but none of the reports I've seen from Chargers beat writers indicate anything serious is going on. So he's a starting WR with a stud QB in an offense that, in theory, should utilize its WRs more with Gates out. He's never been a consistent player but he has proven to be a big-play threat and one thing Rivers has done is take at least one deep shot to him per game. So there have been attempts to get the ball downfield to Floyd although none of them have connected so far (one did last week but Floyd stepped out of bounds before catching it).

I'm guessing he's being dumped in a lot of leagues right now given how bad the production has been. Personally, I can't bring myself to drop him given the big-play potential although I'm giving it serious thought this week. Anybody else holding? Anybody done with him and have moved on or are going to move on this week? I realize he's not a special player by any stretch but he typically was being drafted in the WR3/WR4 range so there was some level of expectation for him going into the season.

Thoughts from other Floyd owners or those who may be pursuing him for one reason or another?

This belongs with the Rivers thread...since Floyd's decline is directly tied to Rivers's.

Maybe the mods could merge the two into one big "SD passing offense" thread...?

definitely frustrating. I own him in a deep dynasty league and couldn't move him for peanuts right now. Considering using his spot for some long term upside on waiver wire, but I think there may be a time this year that he can help as my flex. I'd only be holding in the deepest of leagues...

I happen to own him in a league and he sits on the bench, behind scrubs like MSims-Walker. Even when he's been ok or good (for ONE game) -it's been near impossible to predict. I'd concentrate on hopefuls like Cruz, Preston etc... time to move on.... or like the poster said: low level bye week filler.

That's where I'm at too. Again, I don't think he's a great player by any stretch but he has proven he can be a productive WR in this offense given his size, downfield ability and Rivers' talent. I'd hate to part with him and then see Rivers re-establish the deep ball in the offense because the potential is certainly there for that to occur. My league has tight roster limits so decent players will get dropped. Guys like DeAngelo Williams and Ryan Grant are available, for example, but I don't see either one having a lot of upside so I'd prefer to keep Floyd as opposed to making a run at someone like that. There's often a flavor of the week WR available but again, I'm not sure those types of players have more upside than Floyd does. That makes me reluctant to spend my FAAB on them. So I've been holding and hoping and so far nothing positive has been seen. Frustrating.

if those type of players are available, you need to abandon ship. I'm considering dropping him for fliers like Jeremy Kerley, Andre Caldwell, or Kealoha Pilares...

But again, in what situation do you envision putting him in your lineup? Clearly not right now, but what if he has one good week? Are you going to chase points and hope he does it again or do you need to seem more? He just seems like a huge risk that will disappoint you more often than not.Considering your tight roster limits there must be better options at WR right now.

We can start as many as five WRs so whoever I would have in that spot is someone who could be in my starting lineup. I don't see anyone who clearly has more upside in my opinion. Victor Cruz is out there but I don't know if he clearly has more upside - especially with the news today that it's unlikely he'll unseat Manningham permanently as the No. 2 WR for the Giants. If I'm going to spend my FAAB money I want it to be for someone who I think clearly has a higher ceiling, not another guy who looks tantalizing but may not offer much more. Otherwise, I'd rather save my money and see if Rivers remembers he's a good downfield passer again. You make a lot of good points and I've thought about all of them. Believe me. I do have a soft spot for the guy and maybe it's blinding me here. :) But I do think Rivers is a great QB and I have to think they start attacking defenses downfield more. If that happens, it stands to reason that Floyd is going to get his shots since he is someone the Chargers like to throw to downfield. That's happened in every game this season. They just haven't connected yet. But it's clear the Chargers are going to keep trying so the potential is definitely there.

For Dynasty what about next year? There's no guarantee VJax will be back and Floyd might have some potential for 2012.

I'm struggling at the WR position and that is the only reason he's still on my roster.

Injuries will force him into my starting lineup this week.

He could have a nice game this week against Denver and then maybe he'll be worth something in a trade.

Floyd is in his 8th season (of a fairly injury riddled career, seems like he is always dinged on some level), so unless you are anticipating a Brandon Lloyd like break out (which should have started already with VJax and Gates in and out of the lineup) I think we have seen what Floyd has to offer.Cruz is in his third season (not starting off great with injuries either), has a comparable QB and seems to make noise every time he gets P.T. (small data set) and right now he has Manningham owners shaking in their boots. Has Mario really done enough to think he is a mortal lock to be starting opposite Nicks no matter what? And even if he holds onto the job is it a lock that he sees more targets than Cruz?I have no idea how many snaps per game Cruz & Floyd have seen this year but they have the same number of targets and Cruz is leading Floyd in catches, yards & TDs.Point being I would take a gamble on Cruz over Floyd.

I can appreciate that. I don't believe the QBs are comparable, though. I think Rivers is much better than Eli. But your point of view is certainly valid and I've strongly considered it as well. Here's the deal - Floyd is my WR5. For that spot I'm not expecting a breakout star (although that obviously would be great) but I do want that player to have some upside. Ideally, he'd be in a good passing offense with a good QB. Floyd fits that criteria. Cruz does too although I think to a lesser extent due to role (assuming he remains the No. 3 WR) and my belief that Eli isn't on Rivers' level at QB. That said, both fit the type of player I tend to look for in that role. Whether one has infinitely more upside than the other is the question. I'm not convinced there's much separation there.

Supposedly he's recovered from his nagging injuries and is no longer listed on the injury report.

I'm thinking he could have a nice game against Denver...

maybe that's just wishful thinking.

I have been one of his biggest fans around here, and I own him in one dynasty league. I've considered cutting him, but the prospect of Gates being out for a while, Floyd being healthy now (?), and Jackson having some injury issues has kept him on my team. If Jackson was announced as being out for any given game and Floyd was not on the injury report, I'd start him, Gates or no Gates. He will get deep targets, and he has proven that he can make big plays.

Broken clock is right twice a day. He has shown very little on a consistent basis. He is among a large group of receivers that can have the occasional big game but you end up burning yourself more often than not trying to figure out when that big game is going to happen. But I do agree that if Gates and Jackson are out it makes sense to start Floyd.

I'm still holding him in a deep roster league, but only b/c I am WR starved (Marshall & AJ Green are my two starters) and I keep losing out to very aggressive bids on guys like Cruz and Parker.

Honestly, I'd love to have Cruz instead right now, as he is making plays and Manningham seems to be flirting w/the dreaded 'dog-house' - and that ain't pretty w/Tom Coughlin.

I'm prepared to start him this week w/BMarsh on bye and Manningham doing . . . well, just as little as Floyd.

Still holding. Austin injury coupled with very little WW WRs available keeps him in the starting lineup. I feel good about him still despite the frustrating season so far. He is in a good system with a good QB. Thats opportunity and thats what I look for in players.

last week, he had a sick 30-yard sideline catch wiped out because one foot went out of bounds before he went up to wrestle the ball away from the defender. not that it should make anyone excited, but it does give a little optimism if you're on the fence about starting him this week. i'm rolling him out there because of injuries and bye-week blues. hoping v-jax plays so he draws champ bailey (who is supposed to be back himself), leaving floyd on goodman, who is getting absolutely torched this year.

He was my WR3 the first two weeks of the season, I traded him for Pierre Thomas straight up after week 2.

While that is true, historically he has put up very high production per target, not unlike Vincent Jackson. The nature of the offense facilitates that for its deep threat WRs.

The problem with Floyd has always been his durability. He just can't stay on the field consistently. This is supposedly his first week being healthy recovering from leg/shoulder injuries. Being a Charger fan, I'm biased obviously, but man this guy has been such a tease for so long. He has the talent and the connection with Rivers to succeed. I just don't know if he will be able to stay on the field for the rest of the season. I personally wouldn't count on him for anything more than a bye week replacement if that. I do see the Chargers offense getting on track starting this week, but whether or not Floyd contributes is a coin flip. He could easily reinjure himself during the game.

His highest season catch total is 45 balls in 2009, the only year he played all 16 games. Great physical makeup and will explode a couple of times a year from the end of your bench.

I will say he had some games last year where he posted bigger stats than he had earlier in his career, so perhaps things are coming together after 6 seasons
