So, I was supposed to go to Africa. http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=707506

Sadly, the wife and I got way ahead of ourselves and never checked vaccinations. Wife is on medication for MS that weakens her immune system and that means she can't get yellow fever, polio and something else. We don't want to risk it.

So, now we're thinking about going to the Maldives for a week. Anyone been? Got any good places to stay? All-inclusive? If we're going this route, we're going to need a water villa.

Yes, that is one of the reasons why we I am thinking all-inclusive is the way to go.

No, in fact once you fly to the resort island, I think the only natives you see are employees.

Ok now I am interested. I have this unreasonable fear that someone is going to kidnap me and separate my head from my neck.

By all accounts a gorgeous vacation spot that will likely be mostly gone (ocean rise) before too terribly long. An pretty long flight from the states but supposed to be worth it.

This. Just really difficult to justify the additional travel time to get there. Icon's post is really the most motivating factor to do it before Fiji.

Yeah and we have younger kids so we won't be able to go for a few more years.

It's fantastic once you get away from Male. I think there are close to 100 resorts around there. Unless you're staying at one of the Four Seasons resorts, I honestly don't think there's much difference between them (could be wrong). Hut set in a coconut grove right off the beach. Plentiful scuba and snorkeling - you'll see some mind blowing species. Topless Euro babes galore during. Enjoy. Get drunk and bet on the crab races at night.

Caveat - my experience was more than 25 years ago, perhaps it has changed. But many of the resorts were quite similar in amenities and rates back in the day.

Yeah, if I didn't have a couple extra days on the front end I wouldn't pull the trigger for 5 nights or something like that, but we can do 8, which seems like a decent length of time.

The other thing that's tough to justify is price. Our Africa trip had gotten to about 20K. This ain't going to be cheaper.

Looked into that. Dubai Atlantis wants a two day stay though if you show up on Thursday/Friday and I'm not sure I want to do two days there with only 11/12 days total. This Malaysian Aircraft news gives me slight pause flying over the Middle East.
