-- Mother of Hill has House Burglarized While at Funeral --

Thu Jun 7, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

AP reports about $16,000 worth of belongings were reported stolen from the home of the late DE Marquise Hill's mother while she attended the funeral for her son, a Patriots defensive lineman who drowned last week, New Orleans police said. No suspects have been identified in Saturday's burglary at the eastern New Orleans home of Sherry Hill, who told police that she left for her son's funeral at 10:45 a.m. and discovered the break-in when she returned around 5:45 p.m. Police said a laptop and a television were among the stolen items. A rear bedroom window was apparently pried open. Hill's family, friends and teammates gathered in New Orleans for his funeral, nearly a week after he drowned in a personal watercraft accident on Lake Pontchartrain.

This is nothing new - it happens all the time, criminals use the obituaries and target houses of people who have funerals. Always have somebody at your house if a close one dies and your family is attending the funeral.

too bad one of his 300 pound muscle bound friends didn't come home to find one of these creeps.

Very unfortunate :goodposting: ...also careful having post funeral gatherings at your home. Often people with a minimal connection to the family or deceased will use the opportunity to wander around because of the volume of people coming and going.

My grandfather's house was burglarized the night after his name appeared in the obituaries. Unfortunately for the burglars, they didn't realize his son (my father) was a homicide detective in town. I'll never forget the scene when we all drove up to the scene; in my 10-year old mind, there were 1000s of cops surrounding my grandfather's house. It was probably a few dozen, but let's just say that justice was served that day. :X
