Manning in Round #1 (Redraft) (1 Viewer)

In a 12 team redraft, I had the 6th pick and took Manning with some good RB's still on the board.1. Manning QB (IND)2. Harrison WR (IND)3. Wayne WR (IND)4. Green RB (HOU)5. Williams RB (TAM)6. Gonzalez TE (KC)7. White RB (TEN)8. Taylor RB (JAC)9. Clayton WR (BAL)10. Turner RB (SD)11. Schaub QB (HOU)12. Brown K (SEA)Obviously, I have a lot riding on the Colts. But if you draft Manning in the first round, don't you already have a lot riding on that team? I figured I might as well double-down with Harrison, and then triple-down (is that a word?) with Wayne.
This is very interesting to see that it is possible to field a respectable RB core and not even take your first RB until the 4th rd. Good job, and good luck.

Well we were going to have 1 pt. per 20 yards passing which makes Manning an easy #1 pick.

The commish wimped out and went back to 1 pt. for 50 yards passing which makes Manning a second round pick at best.

QB becomes irrelevant now with the gap between 1 and 10 being virtually nothing. So, needless to say I will be using the 10-team perfect draft article to a "T" now.

Keeper league where most of the top 10 rbs are kept.. (12 teams, no point per rec, 3 pt td pass, normal yardage scoring).. I don't like taking a qb in the first since the points (in our league) are 3 for td and the dif between manning and a mid of the road qb point total over the year is not that great.. but I did it this year..

McGahee went right before me and the choices were edge, MJD, and some other rbs that in my opinion are not good enough there.. (My keepers are westbrook and CJ) Draft went as..

1. Manning

2. Portis

3. D Branch

4. CJ - Keeper

5. Chambers

6. Westbrook - Keeper

7. S Holmes

8. Betts - handcuff

9. F Taylor

10. Shockey

11. Kasay

12. Car D

13. Lindell

14. D Huard

15. Ten D

Hope he throws 40+ tds this year! Good luck

Scaife 14.04

This draft was held two weeks ago, so K. Jones and L. White could be had late.

Not real happy with this team. I took a chance on Manning and Gates. Never tried it before, been playing for 10 years, so thought I'd give it a shot.

I may end up making a trade for McNabb and MJD for Manning and L. White

I love that team, not sure why you don't. It's not conventional but that in no way means it's not a very good team.

1. (4) Peyton Manning QB

2. (17) Clinton Portis RB

3. (24) Cedric Benson RB

4. (37) T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR

5. (44) Carnell Williams RB

6. (57) Calvin Johnson WR

7. (64) Chicago DEF

8. (77) Braylon Edwards WR

9. (84) Ladell Betts RB

10. (97) DeShaun Foster RB

11. (104) D.J. Hackett WR

12. (117) Brandon Jackson RB

13. (124) Benjamin Watson TE

14. (137) Chris Brown RB

15. (144) Jason Campbell QB

16. (157) Olindo Mare K

10 Man league, 6pt passing TDs, big points for Ds that hold teams to low points.

I have since dropped Mare for Elam.

I also hated the fact that Big Ben was a FA. I dropped Campbell for him.

Him and Manning both have week 6 bye which sucks, but I feel I have great trading power with my team if everything does not pan out.

If you pick a QB in round 1, you by default are going to be chasing most everyone else at the RB position all year long. You might as well load up at TE and WR and then take some shots at RB in the mid rounds and hope for the best. I'd grab a top flight WR in round 2 or perhaps Gates. You almost gotta get Gates. In the mid rounds you'll have to roll the dice on guys like Cadillac Williams, Jamal Lewis, Kevin Jones, etc.

Depending on league parameters drafting Manning in the 1st round is not a bad play as not all leagues are created equally. For the past ten years I have played in a typical 12 team 6 pt rush/receiving TD and 4 pt per passing TD league and there I would find it hard to draft a QB in the first round. However, given your parameters depressing the value of RB I would certainly consider it and giving your draft position I think the 9th pick was a good value. Why? 6 pts per all TD increases the value of QBs and the tier PPR aspect devalues the RB a bit. I am playing in a different league this year with college friends that is a 10 team 1 pt ppr 6 pt TD start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 Def, 1 K 3 Flex and I am strongly considering taking Manning 5th overall as RB value are extremely depressed given the requirement of only starting 1 and the PPR aspect. That said, I believe the strategy was certainly warranted, but now it comes down to execution and league draft style. For me I might have gone MJD but I can see that you might have gone a back not splitting carries. I would have gone WR in the 3rd but obviously you did not know Portis would fall to you in the 4th. Overall not bad but I would consider looking to move Portis to the Betts owner or Jacobs for a stud WR.
GREAT POSTYes, because you know what your getting, Manning can be a decent pick anywhere past 9. But, if you do what the original poster did, and overcompensate or play very conservatively with a grouping of value play/average/bargain bin RBs then practically skip WRs all together other than Branch, it blows up . I dont think that team foro example is very good but its somewhat competitive , esp. when getting 3 Tds from Manning. If you draft Manning first, at worst you need a high impact RB, even take a big risk on a rookie like Adrian Peterson, and a WR pariing like Fitzgerald or Housmazaheh after. Have to take some upside risks at some point or you cannot win

I had 7th pick overall in my draft. Then the rounds serpentine from there on in.

Peyton was there when my pick came in the 1st round, and even though every year prior I stick to picking RB's early, I COULD NOT PASS ON PEYTON.

Here's my team and round each player was picked:

QB: Peyton (1), Delhomme (14)

RB: Willie Parker (2), Cedric Benson (4), Ahman Green (7), Norwood (10), Dunn (13)

WR: TO (3), L. Coles (6), Santanio Holmes (5), Colbert (12), Booker (15), K. Curtis (16), Toomer (17)

TE: Heap (8), Desmond Clark (18)

K: Wilkins (11), Kasay (19)

D/ST: New England (9), Arizona (20)

Looking at the other rosters...Their teams look balanced...But not everybody may have done their homework...How is that my fault ?

Never said it was. It was a knock on your leaguemates.

17th Season/10 Team Re-Draft from the #4 spot.

1st 3 rounds I took Manning, Harrison, Roy Williams, then Benson, Edge and Green in 4,5,6.

I have never subscribed to that silly RB/RB theory by drafting a guy based soley on his position. I took the best player football in Manning and I will ride that Colt all the way to the Super Bowl. I've been on my soapbox in this forum all summer (go ahead look it up :D )preaching about how Manning was a bona fide early 1st rounder.

People in mocks all over the web were taking guys like Frank Gore, Rudi Johnson, and Maroney ahead of this guy that is just beyond me.

Also...to the people who thought Marvin was too old to continue his assault, please review that 1st TD catch last night. Text book.

I like to get Manning late in round 1. Have done so 3 of the past 4 years. If you can get Manning the trick is getting that underrated RB in round 2. Last year I got FWP in round 2, and ended up getting Betts as a Free Agent to help carry me to be Super Bowl champs. This year that underrated RB would be someone like a Portis or Henry. Manning is so much more consistent than any other QB in the league, it's great knowing you have 20 points in the bag every week from QB. No other QB is even close to Manning in dependability. Oh sure, after the fact you can say you could of had Drew Brees cheap and gotten similar production. But all other QB's are a total crap shoot as last night showed. You are guaranteed to get 1st round production numbers from Peyton Manning.
