Manning restructures contract again.....? (1 Viewer)

I'm no expert on salaries, and I certainly don't have the memory to recollect who has and hasn't restructured their own contracts for their teams best interests...but it seems to me that Peyton Manning has restructured his contract a number of times to allow the Colts to better financially manage the cap and retain important (key) players. Does anyone know the exact history of Mannings contracts and restructures?

If I remember correctly, which is unlikely, he restructured to help retain Harrison a few years back and then Wayne last year. In between he was resigned to a monster contract, right? Now, I know this latest restructuring didn't reduce his salary or bonuses, it just pro-rated his bonus payment (for 2006?) over a number of years, thus making the cap hit a little larger in future years, and a lot less this year. I believe there were other times he restructured also, but I'm not sure. I just seem to remember this happening pretty often over the last five or six years.

Has any one player done this as many times as Manning? I don't know of any other player in recent history that has done this for their team. Am I mistaken?

Not sure what relevence this has in FF, but it would seem that the Colts are a solid franchise that will retain their studs for years to come, even if their franchise player has to restructure his contract to make it so.

this restructuring is pretty standard, converting a roster bonus to a signing bonus. They just did the same with Mathis on the same day as Manning.

Everyone has the wrong impression of this, this is in Mannings best interest. He is not giving up any money but he gets it all up front in one lump sum. I don't ever remember a player refusing to restructure their contract like this. It happens all the time and it is no big deal.

bingo.

Not really thinking that this one was a big deal at all......just wondering how many times Manning has done a restructuring. It seems like this is his 4th or 5th in nine years. I find it interesting that Manning has done it as many times as I think he has and wondering whether I'm remembering correctly or not.

Verification of facts would help, but I don't know where to go to find out this info.

In FF terms, it's surely not a big deal.
