Manny being, well Manny (1 Viewer)

This is what I am reading:

The Mets were trying to downplay their interest in Manny Ramirez, but an official with one of the teams involved said the Mets and the Phillies were both in serious pursuit of the goofy Red Sox slugger.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the delicacy of the negotiations, said a deal was probably too complicated to get completed before Thursday's deadline. But Ramirez told people in Boston yesterday that he'd be open to waiving his no-trade protection and approving a deal out of town.

The Phillies may have the edge with Marson, as Boston is looking for catching help in 2009 and beyond. But Ramirez may be an enticing enough target that the Mets would start talking about prospects that have so far been off-limits -- players such as Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese and Robert Parnell.

I could see him going to the mets.I am not "worked up" about him but at the same time I think it is time for him to move on.
I can't see the Sox dealing him for prospects though. If they could get an adequate replacement for him in LF AND several other guys, ok. But Boston isn't going down the stretch with Fernando Martinez in LF. I could see Burrell and a prospect or two for Manny though.
I heard this trade proposal yestererday on WFAN and it wasn't bad . . .Manny Ramirez

Jacoby Ellsbury

for

Carlos Beltran
Not bad? Not bad for who?

I thought it was pretty even.Beltran is no where near the hitter Manny is but Manny can walk at the end of the year.

not even closeManny CAN'T walk this year. BOS has a team option on him.

I could see BOS throwing in Crisp, but no way Elsbury is part of any deal

 Manny + Ellsbury for Beltran would be a joke - Manny + Coco for Beltran's even a bit of a reach, just something cooked up in the New York media, zero substance.I think the time crunch will ultimately leave Manny in Boston unless his potential new team overpays.

According to the Providence Journal, the Red Sox have talked to the Diamondbacks, Mets, Phillies and Dodgers about Manny Ramirez.

Boston would obviously prefer to deal Ramirez out of the AL. The newspaper notes that Ramirez has assured the Red Sox that he'd waive his no-trade clause if his new team promised to decline his option for 2009, making him eligible for free agency after the season.
Per Rotoworld. Manny is not going anywhere.

Colorado would probably be a legit trade partner.Rox promise to not exercise the option on Ramirez, and move Holliday, Fuentes, Tavares and Barmes for a 2 month rental of Manny, along with Ellsbury and Bucholz.

Holliday is under contract for next year, and he's' a big enough bat that the loss of Manny wouldn't be THAT extreme.

Holliday, Barmes and Tavares for Bucholz and Ellsbury doesn't seem like a huge stretch either. Manny and Fuentes would both be class A free agents, so the draft picks are a wash. Holliday plays LF for the BoSox next season, and Ellsbury leads off for Col / Bucholz = Rockies #3 starter.

Start up the rumor mill machine...

The Red Sox ran Manny Ramirez's name past the Mets in the last 24 hours and were turned down flat, according to one source with knowledge of those discussions. So we can cancel that Manny Watch in Queens.
Well, until this afternoon. Phillies general manager Pat Gillick ended any speculation that Ramirez would be coming to Philadelphia.“At this point, there’s no interest on our part,” Gillick told The New York Times. “We have no place to play the guy.”
Contrary to the denials that made the rounds Monday, officials from both teams say the Mets have contacted the Red Sox about Manny Ramirez and are interested in pursuing a deal for him if Boston decides to make him available. The Red Sox suspect that GM Omar Minaya wants Ramirez more than Mets ownership does. Regardless, the Mets are reluctant to part with top-prospect talent in exchange for outfielders like Adam Dunn, Raul Ibanez and Randy Winn, but they (rightly) consider Ramirez a far superior hitter to those in that group, and they would discuss players in a Ramirez deal that they would not discuss in others. What remains to be seen is whether a Ramirez deal is too complicated to come together in time for the deadline.
SAN DIEGO - Do not look for Mark Teixeira or Manny Ramirez to become a Diamondback. The Diamondbacks have been linked to both sluggers in recent published reports, but a major league source with knowledge of the situation said there is “no way” either will end up with the D-Backs before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline.

Gammons on ESPNs radio show "The Herd" shortly after noon today.

Paraphrasing PG comments:

Manny has absolutely zero interest in whether the team wins or loses. None.

Lowell and Papi are complete opposites, and try to reach out to Manny about the importance of the team winning.

Chance of a trade are slim to none.

Manny believes that he has nothing to prove over the remaining two months of his contract. Regardless of his play he is expecting to sign a deal of $100 mill over 4 years. Sox hoping Boras reaches out to Manny to make sure they get full effort during the remainder of the year.

No chance Sox pick up the option.

Tito is perhaps the most underrated manager of our time. Tito is losing weight over this. Does not sleep well. Manny's ways are completely opposite of what Tito believes in and it is literally killing him.

I don't believe Manny has absolutely zero interest in whether the team wins or loses. Gammons clearly does not like Manny but that statement is over the top.Manny is not going to get 100 million over 4 years, no chance. Boras cannot be telling him that. The guy will likely get a four year contract a little north of 60 million. The only difference is that Boras will have a stake in it, as he doesn't right now.

:football: All the things people used to say about Torre, they should be saying about Francona now. He's a class guy all the way, absolutely impossible to dislike him regardless of the uniform.

Pathetic, not trying to beat out a close play when you're ####### team is being no-hit. But I'm sure there is yet another excuse from his fans.
I don't think anyone is making excuses. It was pathetic. Agreed. My only arguement is that the good times are worth dealing with the annoyances that surface every so often.

"They haven't asked me for anything," Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com's Enrique Rojas on the phone from Fenway Park before the Red Sox-Angels matchup on Wednesday night."The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me," Ramirez said. "During my years here I've seen how they [the Red Sox]have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them."The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy," Ramirez added. "I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don't have peace here."
:)

Could someone please just tell this guy to shut the #### up?

Manny Ramirez was quoted as saying Sunday that he'd "like to play for Cleveland one more time.""I have so many good memories there," said Ramirez, "Why not? I think to go back where you started is everyone's dream." Manny can make that dream a reality if he simply declines his player option for 2010 and takes a pay cut to rejoin the Tribe. We'll see how serious he is around November. Manny also told free agent-to-be Jim Thome that he should think about heading back to Cleveland to finish off his career. "Me and Thome back in Cleveland?" Ramirez said. "That would be sweet."

Manny makes what can be a very long and boring season interesting.I, for one, am glad that he doesn't shut the #### up.

Curt Schilling doesn't shut the #### up, and I don't find him interesting either. As an owner of Manny, I wish he would just concentrate on this year.
