Map of America by race/ethnicity (1 Viewer)

It's hard to find things that are fascinating on anything more than a local level, so it's more a cool link than a discussion point.

For the DC area folks- I was surprised to see that the whitest neighborhood in the area is actually in Southeast, immediately behind and south of the Capital.

My stomping grounds until I was 23. The Big D.

81.6% Black,

12.3% White,

1.0% Asian, 0.3% Native American, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.5% other races, 2.3% two or more races,

5.0 percent Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican and Mexican).

I basically live at the border of two census tracts.

The one I am offically in:

White 58%

Black 1%

Hispanic 13%

Asian 26%

Other 1%

The one I border:

White 72%

Black 1%

Hispanic 4%

Asian 19%

Other 5%

My neighborhood is a lot more like the second one than the first.

Where my sister lives it's something like 80% white 14% black then the rest. Cross over one street and the numbers reverse.

Does anyone know why 27% of Clark County, Idaho is foreign born? That doesn't seem like the top destination for people moving to this country.

Fascinating map to look at.

Census tract 533501

0% White

0% Black

100% Hispanic

0% Asian

0% Other

A bit suprised, thought it was closer to flipping. Give it a few more surveys.

The second area contains 2 prisons.

Los Angeles County even more yellow than I expected.
Despite LA having a lot of Hispanics, it really doesn't seem that way living on the west side - 30% tops. I did find a place near Bell that was 100% Hispanic. Amazing segregation here.

A couple strange ones I found after spending a few minutes poking around areas I'm sort of familiar with:

Why/how did Reading, Pennsylvania become a haven for the Hispanic community? I don't know much about it. Wikipedia was no help.

Chicago looks like most segregated big city in America. The map looks like one face of a Rubik's Cube. It's like blocks of one color, then it stops abruptly and changes to a block of another color. I spent some time there and didn't see that at all, but I guess the numbers don't lie.

Maine appears to be the whitest place in America. Even when you get to street level in the larger cities it's like 90% or more white except for one census tract in Portland.

wow, From the looks of this it seems like I am the only white guy in Brooklyn

Brooklyn, Ny 11219
