Mark Anderson (1 Viewer)

Read on Fanball (quoting Sun Times article) that he may replace Alex Brown as starting DE. Not sure why it took 17 weeks for the Bears to consider starting him. Brown is solid, but his guy has been flat out dominant when in there. He is kind of undersized, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep it up as a starter, but stats don't lie. Anderson is a playmaker and one of the steals of the draft. Excited to see him finally get more minutes.

I have no problem with this move.

The confusing thing to me is WHY Alex Brown is the first alternate Pro Bowler at DE, when the Bears don't even feel he's their 2nd best DE right now.

I think Lovie Smith wants to see Mark Anderson break the rookie sack record of 14.5 and secure the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Then I'm sure Drew Rosenhaus will attempt to become Anderson's agent.

Anderson will get worn out. By the 3rd he'll be be playing half speed and get caught on a cut block from Colledge and go down. :hot:

Worn down doing WHAT exactly?By the second quarter, they'll be carrying Brett Favre's head off the field on a gurney and flop his torso onto a golf cart.Who's the backup up in "Title Town" nowadays?

I hope he does start. He's made the most of the limited opportunites he's been given & I want to see more.

Brown is better against the run than Anderson is right now, although Anderson has looked pretty good in pursuit in the relatively few snaps he's received in the base defense. Whether this is a Week 17 thing or a sign of the future is yet to be seen, but it'll be interesting to see how Anderson performs if he gets a full game's worth of snaps in the base defense.

They needed to make this move. ABrown is a solid NFL DE, but he doesn't provide the pass-rush that Lovie needs with Tommie Harris on the sidelines. Nevertheless, the Bears LB's better be ready for a full dose of runs off LT/screens to Anderson's side.

I also think this 'sets up' another offseason move.

Going to Ogunleye and Brown to 'restructure' their deals to free up money for Lance Briggs.

Urlacher and Briggs are the cornerstones of this defense, followed by Tommie Harris (if healthy) and Peanut Tillman. Nate Vasher is WAY overrated imho.

Briggs is UFA after this season.

Grossman, Berrian, Tillman and Vasher are all UFA after '07 season.

More than likely Muhammed is gonna have to re-do his deal or get whacked after the '07 season, as he's do a huge roster bonus.

Actually playing in more than a handful of snaps?
What percentage of the snaps has this guy played? Anyone know?
Game and situation dependent. When Brown and Ogunleye are healthy, he's usually in (on average) one full series a half and plenty of pass rushing situations -- around 15-20 snaps a game. When Brown and Ogunleye have been dinged or the Bears have the game well in hand, he's played as many as 25 or so in the games I've seen.Bears defense usually sees anywhere from 45-60 snaps per game, so it's usually around 25-30 percent. More if they're way ahead.

so where does he project?

Anderson has burned me when I started him and excelled when I didn't.

Hard to pass on this matchup if you have a week 17 championship.

Anderson is a stud in the making. How long could lovie really stick him behind Brown?

IMO same type of problem lovie is having with benson/jones.

This guy has got some explosive speed, and as an anderson owner.

Today, Lovie Smith went out of his way to praise Mark Anderson's performance. He said that Mark has been playing well since week 1 and has been one of their better players this season :hot: . That's saying a lot considering all the success the team has been having thus far ...

That being said, Lovie went on to say that Mark Anderson would NOT replace Alex Brown as the starter, but WOULD get more involved in the game ... basically, he'll be in on more snaps than normal.

I don't think it would be crazy to expect another sack from him this weekend.

Highly doubt this would stick into the playoffs, but Im excited to see the kid play more, no doubt

Disappointing season from Ogunleye. I know hes been dinged here and there, but I really thought his big breakout sack year wouldve happened by now
