Mark Bradley is Bears #1 (1 Viewer)

No one has promised Mark Bradley anything, but the Bears' second-round pick in 2005 believes he will be the team's go-to receiver in 2008.

"In my eyes, I'm that confident that I'm the No. 1 guy," Bradley said at the Walter Payton Center on Saturday while participating in a reading incentive program for kids along with Garrett Wolfe. "That's what they drafted me for in the second round, to be the No. 1 guy. I've just had some injuries and some minor setbacks. Now I'm recovered and ready to be that guy."

The Bears need to fill the void left by Bernard Berrian, who took the free-agent money and ran to the Vikings. The release of Muhsin Muhammad means the Bears are without their two leading wideouts from last season.

In steps Bradley, heading into his fourth year out of Oklahoma. He has 38 career catches for 583 yards and four touchdowns. Last season Bradley was an afterthought, with just six catches for 71 yards and one score. He had four starts during his '05 rookie season before tearing his ACL.

"I didn't have anything bothering me [injury-wise] last year," Bradley said. "I talked to them about getting more opportunities on the field, and those opportunities didn't come that much. But the opportunity is here now. I can't cry over spilled milk, things in the past."

Coach Lovie Smith and wide receivers coach Darryl Drake have spoken favorably of Bradley this off-season, saying he was capable of stepping into a major role. But that didn't keep the Bears from adding veteran help, with Marty Booker signing with his former team for two years and Brandon Lloyd agreeing to a one-year deal.

"We lost two guys, so I knew they were going to make some moves," Bradley said. "Lloyd knows the system. He ran the offensive set with [offensive coordinator] Ron Turner at Illinois. And Booker went to the Pro Bowl here with the Bears. It's just two additions that don't have to come in here and learn a new set."

Asked what being the No. 1 guy means to him, Bradley couldn't measure it in numbers. Berrian had 71 catches as the Bears' top threat last season.

"Being the primary guy doesn't necessarily mean I'll have more catches than the No. 2 receiver," he said. "You could be the guy that teams don't want the ball in your hands once you start making plays. That's what we had last year, with people saying we'd rather have 'Moose' beat us than Bernard.

"No matter what, I'm looking at it as this is my spot to lose."

I'm root hog for the Bears, but I can face the facts. They are going to be bad this year. Plain and simple. If we win 4+ games, I'm happy. But that won't keep me from the games.

Mark Bradley won't even catch thirty balls. He's lost his mind.

Our #1 threat in the passing game next year will be Greg Olsen. He has to be. We have to put the ball in the hands of our talent. I know Devin Hester is uber-talented, but only time will tell if he can actually learn a playbook. I'm not quite sure he even knows how to read. But that boy sure can run.

Man how the Bears have fallen in two years. At least they'll probably finish above the Lions.

I actually think Bradley has a real shot at being CHI's WR1 this year. While he may be a bit over confident, I think he'll get the opportunity to be much more involved this season. All of that said, being the #1 WR in CHI in 2008 probably isn't all that significant. And I do think that Olsen and Clark will be used a lot in the air attack as well.

I think Greg Olson and Marty Booker (not necessarily in that order) will lead the team in catches. I think the Bears will move Olson all over the field so he won't be a typical TE. I like Hester's potential as well. Desmond Clark is a solid receiving TE as well. Mark Bradley has shown flashes, but you can't count on him until he actually proves that he can be productive.

Robert is that you? If so I thought I was the only one who know about this site from are League. This guy knows His stuff. :excited:

So basically the Bears have a below average QB, a below avg RB, probably the worst starting wr's in the league (wouldn't be better than #3-4's on most teams) and a TE with some upside. Yup, I'll pretty much be avoiding them like the plague this year with the exception of maybe grabbing Olsen for a bye week filler.

You forgot to mention the crappy O line. The Bears offense has the makings of being EXCEPTIONALLY FUGLY in 2008. :goodposting:

Wasn't Cedric Benson saying the same thing after Thomas Jones left for free agency last year?

:goodposting:

Did you ever have a day when you wish you happened to stumble upon Jerry Angelo tied to a telephone pole and a bucket full of water balloons nearby?

:loco:

That didn't sound right. You know what I mean.

Right now it is tough to argue with him...and he can be had CHEAP (I picked him up off of waivers in a dynasty league last week) - can't hurt to try - at worst he is the same as about a 3rd or 4th round rookie pick and at least you know he'll be on the roster.

You could do worse for what he will cost.

Mark Bradley is a turd, so really this is a story about "a Number Two" WR becoming a #1 WR.

My favorite part about this story is below. He's spouting off about how he's going to be the #1WR, and then says he expects the #2 WR to perform better.

It took former 2nd round draft pick Mark Bradley until Week 17 to match O-lineman John St. Clair in TD receptions in 2007.

"Being the primary guy doesn't necessarily mean I'll have more catches than the No. 2 receiver," he said. "You could be the guy that teams don't want the ball in your hands once you start making plays. That's what we had last year, with people saying we'd rather have 'Moose' beat us than Bernard.

...and yes, Mark Bradley is indeed delusional. He wasn't the #1 WR at Oklahoma, and he certainly won't be in Chicago. On another side note, Lovie Smith has stated that Josh Beekman is anticipated to be the starting left guard this season.

That would be two guys (Bradley and Beekman) who couldn't play a meaningful number of snaps in the month of December, when the Bears were all but eliminated from playoff contention. So Lovie Smith is just as delusional as Bradley.

I wouldn't sleep on Devin Hester. People see him as a PR/KR that can't make it as a fantasy WR like Dante Hall or other similar guys. The guy that I'd like to remind most of is Steve Smith. While he is the exception, I don't think the Bears are just looking to run some gadget plays with Hester at this point. The fact that they really have not addressed the WR position makes me think they might really plan on making him a big part of the passing game.

Devin Hester has the kind of talent that Smith has and could blow up if given the chance. I'm just saying.....

The thing about deciding to take on Hester is that you have to decide to commit to him for what he may do later, not in September. The Bears say they want to groom him to be their #1 WR, but that it'll take time. Maybe by late 2008, or starting in 2009, he can be their #1. But don't expect a big start right out of the gate. If a FF owner is the kind of guy who drops a player quickly if stats aren't piling up, stay away. Hester is a dynasty play, not a redraft play. No point in drafting him if you are the type to lose patience, because if so you'll end up cutting him by week 5.

I'm pretty sure he was attempting to use the line from Forrest Gump here.

Not Robert, just an informed and realistic Bears fan.

As we go into the season, on paper, you are realistic. The expectation is that Hester can become a big play threat out of the WR position, but, much more questions than answers.

That boy sure is a runnin' full.

This doesn't bother me any. My expectations couldn't have been any lower before this incident. I'm not quite sure if Bradley thinks he's the man or he's approaching the season with high expectations. I'm not at all bothered by the latter. I wouldn't want anyone entering the season saying, "I'm going to be the 2nd WR at best."

That said, I hope the overall team have a better outlook on things than I do. PLAYOFFS? We'll be lucky to win a game.
