The hype sure seems to have died pretty quickly....looks like Rex Ryan is not making bone headed statements either anymore. So what does the future hold for Sanchez? Still a franchise QB or just mediocre at best? I know it is only 6 weeks but this was a Bills D that was missing tons of starters before and during the game due to injuries.

Oh, and where are all the Rex Grossman bashers now. Sanchez had a worse QB rating than Grossman did on his worst weeks....

Rookie QB that will go through his share of ups & downs. For every rare 1st year success story (Marino, Flacco, Ryan) there are hundreds of them that struggle early. He'll just have to take his lumps, learn and hopefully be better for it down the road.

There are some very level headed Jets fans here at FBG - unlike the many I come into contact with here living in NY.

Give the kid more than 6 games before you overreact one way or the other. The winds in the meadowlands aren't friendly to every type of passer and Sanchez looks like he is gonna have to figure out a way to deal with that if he wants to be successful with the Jets. I don't care how great Eli has been so far this year, December at home always kills him as well.

BOTTOM LINE: Sanchez should not have been throwing the ball yesterday that often, Jets had the lead and were running the ball down their throats.. Even Bills fans in the Game thread were shocked....

We have a very inexperienced QB that Arguably came out of college early... STRIKE 1

Then arguably he starts right off the bat when many believe rookies should sit and wait...STRIKE 2

He's never played in cold windy conditions STRIKE 3...

And then STRIKE 4.... The coaching staff should be protecting him and relying on the OL, Run game and defense Like Rex, advertised this team to be....

Agreed 100%. At that point in the game, up 13-3, you rely on your PRO BOWL offensive line and Jones/Washington. Pound the rock and mix in some high percentage passes.

Keller has been a total turd and cotchery was out. Not a great recipe for a kid playing his first game in the wind.

But still, the way the jets were running the ball, it never should have came to that.

Plus, the jets win the game if Hartsock doesnt hold on that run.

Either way, without Jenkins, they're done. Its a moot point. Time to look forward to the draft and building some line depth. Go into next year with Sanchez a year older and Cotchery and Edwards in place.

Keller has been a total turd
What happened here? I just dumped him to the WW since I now have Vernon Davis and Jermichael Finley....how come a rookie QB does not rely on a pass catching TE like Keller???
he just looks awful out there. Sanchez hasnt been looking for him, but he has given up on some catchable balls. (including the intentional grounding call last monday) Had one behind him a bit yesterday that he didnt even try to adjust to. Plus he doesnt block well and got called for multiple false starts. He looks like his head is in the clouds out there. They're either dumping too much info on him (maybe he's being asked to run read routes and doesn't know how) or he's just lazy. Both seem inconcievable at this point, but its gotta be something.

I've never been convinced that Sanchez was a franchise QB, but this is jumping the gun. The fact remains that he was not ready to be playing in the NFL this year. He should have stayed in school (believe it or not that guy coaching USC knows a thing or 2). He is still young and could easily prove to be a great QB. Right now he is playing awful. Rookies QBs look this way more than not though.

This coaching staff has a lot to learn too.

He was ready overall for the NFL. Yesterday, it was a cold weather/wet game with his top two WRs from training camp missing (Cotchery/Stuckey) missing --- For that he was not ready. Not making excuses because sure, he totally sucked and hugely disapointed. But that his a LONG Way from saying "He is not ready for the NFL." He did very well the previous week against Miami and obviously beat NE already this year. He looks like other rookies to me, up and down.

link to people saying he was a HOF QB?

Personally, I think it was as much of a Rookie coach mistake than a rookie QB mistake (mistake being throwing so often towards the end instead of running it). I also think you cannot underestimate how much a good possession receiver (like a Cotchery or Mason) can help a rookie QB. The Jets played that game with a brand new #1 (who is not a possession guy) and really their new #3 in Clowney.

Neither Edwards or Clowney provide that "warm fuzzy" blanket for a rookie QB and while Keller is good, that is not really his strength either (even as a TE). The last two weeks we have seen how the Jets (and Sanchez in particular) do without a healthy Cotchery. I think when he comes back, we will get a better idea of what to expect from Sanchez as he grows. Too early to say whether he will be a stud or just serviceable, but I think it will fall somewhere between the two when all is said and done.

 Cotchery is a big time player who Sanchez really leans on. Yesterday, in the rain, he was relying on a guy who has been there for 10 days and Mr. August. (Clowney)Doesnt excuse 5 picks though. He made awful decisions all game long.

As a Jet fan before the year started I felt that if they went 8-8 and ended the year developing the kid at QB that would be a good year...even if he started the year on the bench or had to sit a few games to learn. Lots of top QBs did it - and the ones that played from the start had some dreadful games. I think the early success of flacco/Ryan have given unrealistic expectations.

Bottom line the kid isnt as good as he looked in the games he played well nor as bad as he played in the 3 he didn't . As a former Jet coach once said..."it's a process"

Once thing that concerns me - when I see Sanchez come of the field he is by himself sulking or upset - why isn't the QB coach or Schotty with him going over the formations that gave him trouble or talking him through it? I understand that they do this at film sessions but he should have someone ready to go over this info as soon as he makes a play good or bad - maybe I'm just missing it and nitpicking but it seems strange.

It seems to me that Schottenheimer isn't quite sure how to handle Sanchez - he seems torn between keeping him conservative, and opening him up. I get the sense that when he keeps him conservative, defenses key in on that and that is where most of his picks happen. When they take the reins off, like during the second half of the Pats game and the Miami game, Sanchez has really played well. Combine that with Dustin Keller playing like garbage lately, him still being a rookie, as well as two starting receivers being injured, and games like this are going to happen. Sure, I'm a homer and am trying to maintain a positive outlook here, but I think he will play better 1) when Cotchery returns healthy, and 2) the coaches let him air it out more. Defenses are going to cheat up anyways to stop the run, throwing dinks and dunks are playing right into that type of defense ...

Well I haven't seen every NYJ game but it seems to me they are being very conservative with him. He has only thrown the ball more than 30 times once all season long (31 vs. Hou) and is averaging right around 27 passes a game (2nd lowest in the NFL to only the Raiders). Hell even the Dolphins are throwing the ball more than the Jets and they run the Wildcat about 30% of the time! On top of that the only throws I really see them calling and letting him push the ball down field are off of play action. Given the effectiveness of the NYJ run game, these are in reality controlled and safe play calls.I've said it before and still believe it now. Sanchez is simply not ready and he is being protected by both the play calling and scheme of the NYJ right now. You can disagree if you want but the NYJ are a very "QB friendly" environment right now IMO. They've got the #2 ranked rushing offense in the NFL and throw the ball a minimal amount. They use conservative pass plays and rely on the play action to set up simple reads for their QB. They run a ton of screens (Washington is 2nd on the team in receptions) and high % TE plays. On top of that I'm sure many feel their D is among the leagues best (though the stats don't really show that). This situation is reminding me a lot of the Big Ben one his rookie year. Only Sanchez =/ Big Ben right now.

I have noticed the same thing... after he makes a horrible INT, he sits alone on the bench, sort of staring off into space. Don't the Jets have a QB coach? (rhetorical question) Someone should be talking to him, making him snap out of it. At least giving him a pep talk... something. Some on Jets boards want to blame Schotenheimer for play calling, but it is still up to the QB to decide where to throw. On INT #4, Washington was wide open in the flat, and Sanchez looked him off. Very bad decision making after having 3 INT's already. When he was drafted, I didn't like it. I have have never been a fan of any QB who played college in southern CA to play NFL football in the north. Once he was drafted, I became a reluctant Sanchez fan. I like the kid, but this was one of the worst QB performances in the history of the NFL. The Jets ran for over 300 yards, and lost. That was only the second time in history that this has ever happened. He should have been benched. He should be benched against Oakland until he gets his feet back under him. It's a moot point now with Jenkins gone.... the Playoffs are no longer a possibilty.

Ryan Leaf started 2n0 before he imploded
:goodposting: ...and Vince Young won ROTY.
...and Jamarcus Russell..... wait, I got nothing here.
:lmao: You better work harder than everyone else on the team if you want to be a superstar QB coming out of college. Tony Gonzales said that Matt Ryan is the hardest worker on the team. Always looking at film.I don't hear the same about this guy or Stafford.
Sanchez has a rep as a hard worker. That really isn't a problem with him. A QB can study film all he wants, but that education has to translate into his on field D reads and decision making. Sanchez it seems to me, is trying to make up with great plays with each bad play he makes. He just wants to do too much.... the more mistakes he makes, the more prone he is to make more mistakes to atone, instead of just managing the game. Right now, I have to blame the CS for not getting through to him. He's trying to be great.... he needs to be reliable first. The worse he plays, the more he tries to be great. That is why he is regressing right now IMO.

Most playoff wins in franchise history. He might not get a HOF plaque, but certainly the Jets will retire his number when he's done, right?
