MLB Mark Simoneau is expected to start for the Saints this year. Jay Foreman was released late Friday night. Former third-round pick Alfred Fincher will back him up. Simoneau is a sleeper IDP.Source: Source: Baton Rouge Advocate

Just a walk down memory lane...

Simoneau was the runner-up for the Butkus award 1/2 decade ago. Who won it that year??

Mr Lavar Arrington.

Interesting...assuming Edwards doesn't end up with the Saints, what's Simoneau's upside? 3 down MLB?

I guess. Never been impressed with Simoneau but his primary value to the Eagles was in nickel packages. I'm not sure what stats to project for him -- they'll probably be LB3-ish I'd guess -- but this likely makes Roman Harper a complete stud. Another thing that seems crystal clear now is that Alfred Fincher will never be anything more than a special teamer. Can't beat out Ronald McKinnon, Jay Foreman, or Mark Simoneau? :X

NO's D is going to be gawd awful this year. Bump Brees, he's gonna be throwing to Bush all day long.

Good grief. This situation is painful. The T-P is saying it'll be Fincher now, but notes that nobody other than Fujita is safe. They also report that Bullocks and Harper will be the safeties as expected.

The title of the article is A Work in Progress. :lmao: Apparently, the editor didn't care for the original headline, A Complete Mess.

LINEBACKERS: This is a constantly evolving position. The Saints signed two free agents in March, signed two more in June, then traded for two veterans in August. One can likely expect even more changes as the Saints work the waiver wire this afternoon.

"We're never going to stop turning our roster. If we can upgrade our roster, we're going to do it," linebackers coach Joe Vitt said. "Some have been good, some bad. Some have progressed better than others. We're trying to get the best people we can to play winning football for us."

The guys starting alongside Fujita likely will change throughout the season. Right now, it appears the Saints will go with Fincher and recently acquired weakside linebacker Scott Shanle.

Obviously, they would love for someone to emerge as a difference-maker, but they'll settle for guys who can hold runners to under five yards a carry.
