Marlin Jackson (1 Viewer)

Over the past 5 years or so some of us have noticed a trend in the cover 2 defense to have a physical corner back post consistently good tackle numbers. Ronde Barber, Charles Tillman, Antone Winfield.

Much of the new inovations of the cover 2 defense come from the Tony Dungy tree of coaching. Has Dungy now found a corner in Jackson who will become the Colts version of these other solid tackling cornerbacks?

Game 1 vs. Saints Jackson posted 8 solos 4 assists and a FF.

I know the defense is sometimes schemed to have plays flow towards one corner. Anyone think this may be the case for Jackson? Or was his box score just a result of how the Colts defense matched up against the Saints?

I think Marlin Jackson will be an IDP machine much like the CBs you mentioned. He is really physical, and is a perfect fit as a Tampa-2 CB. I would not be surprised to see him be a top 10 DB at some point. He has improved as much as any DB in the league from last season to now.

Frustrating. I drafted him two years ago when I correctly identified him as just such a prospect (in a deep dynasty IDP league) but I couldn't hold him for that long while he developed. He unfortunately was snapped up as a FA and is shining for another team.

CB's are just too much of a commodity to "develop" on your roster. Look for 2nd year CB's who are ready to break out.

Kelvin Hayden put up nice tackle numbers last week too. It appears that the Colts have two CB's now that aren't afraid to come up and make a tackle.

I'd imagine that's a nice commodity to have...kinda like having extra LB's on the field.

I like it!

I saw in the preseason that on almost every play, he was around the ball. I spent a pretty early pick on him and I am glad I did. He is a STUD.

Well, I just picked him up in my 5th league.

I traded for him in a CB required league; gave up Cover 2 safety Whitner.

I sure hope he is the stud we all hope he is.

Marlin is a stud.

Another emerging cover 2 corner to keep your eye on is Cedric Griffin. He had 7 solos in Week 1 and, like Marlin, seems to be a prototypical physical cover 2 corner.

Could MJ be set to go off today? Fisher says he's going to run Brown and White until their legs fall off. Does this set the table for Jackson to have a huge day (not a WDIS, as I don't even have him on my roster)?

After thinking about this over the week I did come to the conclushion that the high tackle numbers for Jackson against the Saints may have at least partialy due to Reggie Bush attacking the perimiter so often. So somthing to think about when playing against the Saints.. your corners may get more ops against them.

That being said the Titans have 2 RBs and Chris Brown attacks outside more often than not as well.. but probobly not as much as Reggie Bush. Also VY may scramble outside at times. Will be interesting to see what Jackson ends up doing against them and if the tackle numbers are once again high.

Also injuries to Colts LB may lead to longer drives by the Titans and TOP which may lead to more ops from Jackson.
