Marques Colston This kid Does not play like a Rookie! (1 Viewer)

Yah I scooped him and Cotchery up off waivers after week 1.

Its why I go minimal WR every year. Its a waste to take one before round 6. Good WRs are all over the place.

His 51 first half yards pale in comparison to greatest player of all time Bush's 49 first half yards. His 28 yard reception didn't even warrant a replay . . .

Really depends on the level of leagues you play in. In my two leagues, both stocked to the gills with experienced owners, those guys were drafted.

Let's see - take a top QB, top TE, extra RBs early in the draft...oh let's toss in a WR or two from the free agent heap after week 1 like Colston.

Well, this league has existed since 1998. Almost every single owner is a founding father. I guess that is "experienced". But I'm sure there are some fantastic leagues out there. But the majority of us probably don't play in such leagues.

Um, I have Colston in both my leagues, but I don't regret taking Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne much earlier ...

In an attempt to get the thread off of who plays in a better league, I would have to say that he is a decent 7th round pick. He gets tons of targets.

Its funny that for the last couple years folks were saying that it was Stallworth that was going to over take Horn. Guess it was this guy instead.

BS. It depends on roster sizes way more than owner IQ.Guys like Colston and Cocherty should not have been drafted in leagues where only 50 or so WRs get selected.Heck, nobody on the FBG staff had Colston in their preseason top 60 WRs, and only two had Cocherty (Tremblay #52, Hicks #59).

:goodposting: I laugh at the posts where people say XX should have been drafted in leagues with experienced owners. Both of my main leagues have been together for almost 15 years, yet neither guy was drafted in either.

I had him after week 1, but dropped him for Watson. I thought Watson was going to be a stud and have more trade value - but I'm kicking myself now. At least Colston would have seen the field other than Gates' bye week!

So glad on week 1 waivers I had him ranked higher than Welker (even though it is a return yard league).

He looks all the world to me like the Saints #1 wr so far this season.

i would like to know where people rank Colston in dynasty. I would think most have him around wr20. Anyone want to share?

That seems pretty high to me. Single coverage wont last forever. But he did look pretty good tonight ...
He reminds me a lot of Keyshawn, who tends to rank in the 20's year after year. Obviously, that's a very rough comparison and it's way early in Colston's career, but that's not a bad model.

I got him in the 17th round of my keeper league. (12 teams, 28 rounds, no waiver wire.) Can keep him for a 17th rounder next year, a 12th rounder in '08, and so on.

He and Jennings and Toomer have worked out so well for me that I'm gonna deal Fitz for RB help -- Lundy having not worked out so well for me.

I grabbed him before week 1, based on a thread here........

I figured Horn to be on the downside and Stallworth being traded opened the door.

26 posts, and about 5 are useful.

Anyway, Colston definitely looks like the real deal. He seems to know exactly where to move after the catch and I've yet to see him drop a pass. On top of that, Brees obviously has confidence in him, so you really have to like his chances of being a big time player this year.

Colston looked very poised out there this evening, especially for the magnitude of the game. I am also really impressed with D. Brees. It looks like NO's made a great move getting this guy. He is only 27. It looks as if Brees and Colston are on their way to becoming a great duo.

Not so in dynasty leagues, where I've been sitting on Cotcherry since his rookie year. Rashaun Woods was a complete dud for me, but at least Jerricho is picking up the slack :)

14 team, 16 round leagues, both those goes were late draft picks.

So are you guys sayin gthat he can play like a good #3.. I have Plax and roy and I have Santana Moss and i'm about to bench him for Colston.. I also have Cothery

I never said they should have been drafted. I said depending on the level of the leagues you're in - and I should have added this as davearm pointed out - probably just as importantly, how many rounds there are, it's possible these guys were already drafted.

This was not meant as a "beat your chest look how good the leagues I play in are", it was just pointing out that you can't always expect gems like these guys to slip by everybody in the initial draft.

Please excuse me if I offended anyone. That was not my intent.

EDIT:

Back on point. Colston certainly does not look like a rookie and Brees seems to have a lot of confidence in going to him. I do not expect him to blow up like a Boldin, but neither do I think he's a flash in the pan. Very, very, very solid #3 WR bordering on an every week #2 WR.

I was fortunate enough to start the season 0-2 and grab Colston in my dynasty league's first free agent draft after week 2. I really like what I saw from him tonight. Solid player with great size and most importantly, he catches the ball with his hands. I think ranking him as wr20 in dynasty might be a little high right now. I have him around 35. Let's make sure he isn't another Michael Clayton before ranking him too high.Don't get me wrong, I am pretty excited to have him in dynasty.

So am I the only one who thinks he is NOs #1 WR? What are his targets compared to Horn thus far?

I've been watching all Saints game (own Bush & Colston) and it looks to me like Colston is getting majority of WR targets. At worst for him its a 1A/1B situation with Horn.

Any NO homers care to chime in?

Before tonight (through 2 games) he had 17 targets to Horns 13 (Bush had 19, Henderson had 10)Dont know how many they each had tonight.

Well, not sure the official targets tonight, but I'd think Colston had more. Which, after 3 games, makes me think he is the main WR Brees is looking for.Question is, after a few more games of this, will teams focus on him opening it up for Horn more? Or will Bush lining up at WR basically take pressure off both WRs???

Dude, read the post above yours for the official targets.

Yep, I feel like an idiot when it comes to WR's. This is my week one drop adds. We don't have a TE position. I could have had Jerricho or Colston for one point. This is why you don't wait till the last minute to do your drop adds folks!! Jerricho went for 35 in week 2. I didn't have a chance.

Winslow, Kellen CLE TE ($ Jurevicius, Joe CLE WR

Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR for $ and drop Jurevicius, Joe CLE WR

Colston, Marques NOS WR for $ and drop Jurevicius, Joe CLE WR

What's his trade value now? Anyone deal him or for him in the past week?

Colston is the 11th ranked WR in my leagues scoring format and is out performing Horn, but I don't know what value he represents as he is still somewhat of an unknown commodity.

BTW...I'm looking for a QB in return.

Horn has definitely drawn the attention, but isn't the stud he used to be. Teams will get more film on this kid, and if the trend continues, play more to shut him down. Once he is treated as the Saints #1 by the opposing defenses, then we'll see what he really has. I expect his stats to cool off some and Horn to see a mild resurgence when he doesn't always draw the #1 corner like DeAngelo Hall.

I was able to pick this guy up after Week 1 in my keeper league. He's been a great addition to my roster. I originally picked him up as a bye week filler for Tony Gonzalez (we run our league in yahoo) but I think he's a keeper now for sure.
