Marvel Cinematic Universe - Fantastic Four - No Homework Required (7 Viewers)

I am going to Ultron with my daughter tonight. I can't wait.
Hoping to catch the matinee on Sunday with the family. Everyone was really looking forward to it before, but the end of Agents of Shield this week put us over the top. Can't wait!

For those going to Ultron, note that there is only one scene after the movie ends and it is during the credits. There is no scene after the credits, only the typical

The Avengers will return
text at the end of the credits.

Didn't read your spoiler but didn't they say the same thing about the first Avengers movie then Wheedon delivered the post credits shwarma scene after it was distributed to theaters?

I seem to remember reading that recently.

I did not see the movie yesterday. I am going tonight.

The information comes from AfterTheCredits.com from people who have already seen the movie.

Was thinking about seeing this with the 8 yr old. He spooks easy, so started "training" by watch some animated ones and watched the first Iron Man and Cpt. America movies. Still not ready for these, so i guess i will have to sneak off myself and see it somehow.

You should tell your kid to man up IMO

Yeah my son isnt scared of anything EXCEPT for the Hulk in the first Avengers. He's 5 years old. I asked him if he wanted to see this and he said yeah. I asked him "youre not gonna be scared of the hulk are you?" and he said no. We'll see.

The wussification of America is alive and well in our house.

Some of it was Red Skull i bet, and some he doesn't handle people dying well. Some was also getting a tad bored during the run time.

It wouldn't have even occured to me to watch these movies with him at 5 years old.

I'm going out to watch it tonight. I told my boys (7,9) that I had to see it first to make sure it was appropriate. They've seen the first Avengers, Cap 1, Thor, and GotG. They tried to watch Cap 2 but the younger one had "bad dreams" after only seeing half of it. That one was a little more "realistic" with the fighting/shooting, so I think it scared him a little.

I have a feeling that after I watch it tonight, I'll be taking them to see it on Sunday afternoon.

Just got back and enjoyed it. Another solid addition to the family.

I have three questions

1) When Tony reprograms his AI to be Friday, is that suppose to be anyone of note in the Marvel universe?

2) In the during credits scene, Thanos states "that he has to do it himself", which I assume means he has to get the inifinity stones for his gauntlet himself but did that also indicate that he has been controlling hydra as well and that they failed to secure the Mind Stone for him?

3) What is the name of the infinity stone in Guardians called?

Everyone's different. My son was creeped out by scooby doo #### at that age.

Does your 5 year old have older siblings?

only child. He loves super hero movies although i only took him to the actual theater for GotG and Spiderman 2. For whatever reason, Hulk scares him but he was too young when that was in theaters. Only showed it to him on dvd last yr. will be taking him to this most definitely.

1. No. "My girl Friday" is the ref, I assume.

2. Not sure about Hydra. However,

The Infinity Gauntlet is in Odin's artifacts vault. So that scene implies strongly that Thanos is still allied/doing business with Loki, who we last saw controlling Asgard disguised as Odin. He also probably has the Tesseract now too.
3. I believe it's the Soul Gem in Guardians. But about that -

How did Thor even know it had been found? He mentions that "four gems" have come to light in a short amount of time. This means he knows about the Soul Gem from Guardians. What?

My thoughts on the Ultron flick -

Critics were right when they said it was too crowded. Too many characters vying for screen time. Some plots would have been better fleshed out and others dropped. It felt like an elaborate juggling act, one which must have exhausted Whedon to the bone; it's no surprise he's done after this film. They could have done without Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch and been fine. While both actors were fine and their screen time ok, their inclusion felt like fluff and utterly unnecessary when considering how crowded the film was.

The action sequences were good, sometimes a bit overdone (Hulkbuster fight), but good. There were true Whedon moments of both character depth (Hawkeye gets a nice and touching amount of development) as well as some funny feminist fun-poking at a very testosterone-driven genre. More of these moments would have been nice.

Paul Bettany shined as The Vision - he absolutely nailed the character and really brought him to life, with both his delivery and especially in his facial expressions and eyes. He's going to be a joy to watch in future films.

Lastly, for those of you who read The Age of Ultron comic series: this has NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING in common with the comics. They basically ripped off the name and villain for marketing purposes. That, in itself, was disappointing. If I had to describe the change, I'd say Disney/Marvel/Whedon decided to write a super "safe" story rather than really roll up their sleeves and try something challenging.

I'm still conflicted on Spader's Ultron too. The major difference between the Spader version and the comic version is Spader's is, surprisingly, way less arrogant and super-intelligent, and instead more human and comic. Which was WEIRD.

Grade = B-

Not as good as Avengers 1 or some of the better solo films, but still worth seeing.

I guess. Did I miss something? Did they show that? Or is it just an assumption?

That was another grip of mine -

The vision water scene could have done SOOOO much more for the extended storyline. For as important as it was, it had little screentime. I bet a testicle it was cut in editing and we'll get the extended scene in the blu-ray

I would love to see an extended cut but I won't hold my breath as that is something Whedon has never done to my knowledge.

As for the stones, they showed the 4 that have been shown in the movies in his water vision. I don't know how Thor went from the vision of the 4th stone to knowing it was in play some where.

Age of Ultron did $84.5m on its Friday alone.

Second biggest movie opening in history behind only the last Harry Potter movie.

Saw it today and loved it. Not as good as the first, but that's likely due to heightened expectations after the first one knocked it out of the park. Continued great mix of action, humor, and story. A- or B++

Overall a fun movie, but not my favorite Marvel flick by a long shot. I think casting Spader was a huge mistake if all he was going to do was mimic his Raymond "Red" Reddington character. It was totally distracting for me as a fan of The Blacklist.

I'm more interested in the return viewing sales. This one was something of a disappointment to me. I saw Avengers 1 three times in the theater. Doubt I'll see this one a second time.

I think the below is just an estimate trying to predict the Sunday revenue but they are usually pretty close.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” scored the second biggest domestic opening in history this weekend, kicking off summer blockbuster season with a mammoth $187.7 million debut.

Globally, the film is a juggernaut, pulling in an estimated $627 million in 12 days of release. At that pace, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” should pass $1 billion.

The more time I've had to digest it, the more I liked all the second gen solo films better. Winter Soldier, Thor 2, Guardians - all better. Iron Man 3 was even better in its own right. Less action than all the rest, but way more character development and great acting. Downy and the kid had the kind of chemistry and screen time together that Whedon wished he could have given to Banner and Natasha.

Which is another gripe of mine. The Banner-Natasha arc could have been fantastic if given the time to develop. Instead it felt rushed and lacking, despite Ruffalo and Scarlett being some of the more talented cast members (along with Downy and Samuel L), and Whedon's immense talent at writing gender difference issues in a way that's humane and digestible (i.e. not pretentious or grad schoolish). Hulk as masculinity/testosterone gone awry and Natasha as the uber-badass confident woman (with ethical issues) - the romance between these two could have been a goldmine elevating this movie in ways Nolan achieved in the Batman series. Instead I suspect the Marvel/Disney suits shoved a ton of demands on Joss that limited screen time for everyone, including Hulk-Natasha.

I don't think the domestic number for A2 will match A1.

But the Global numbers are tracking solid so far so even if it doesn't match the huge A1 numbers (which is #3 all time), it is still has a chance to be in the top 5-12 globally of all time.

Saw the movie yesterday in IMAX. Loved every millisecond of it. From trailers to credits. It is truly an unique experience to view a movie in IMAX. This was my first. Definitely will not be my last. As for my take on the movie, yes it did seem a little crowded. But for a Marvel fan like me.......it's like waiting to get on an elevator, and having the doors open and seeing Thor, Iron Man, CA, Hulk, Hawkeye, Scarlett Johanson, War Machine.....all waiting for you to get on. You don't blink, you get on and smile.

JS has always had that arrogant jerk quality going back to the Brat Pack movies. To me, he was the perfect fit for Ultron. Not taking anything from your :2cents: as I don't watch Blacklist.

I think this is such a good attitude.

I think people are so quick to nit pick movies that they lose site of what an incredible run of entertainment this has been. Even the worst of the movies have been entertaining.

There is room for both. Just because they make a movie with a bunch our favorite super heroes, doesn't we need to stop thinking about the quality of the product we are paying for. No doubt Marvel's execution of their plan has been great and it has been a quality run of movies so far.

I don't have any problems with the nit picking. Everyone is free to voice their opinion. Not everyone is going to like the same things.

I am just saying sometimes people look so hard for flaws they forget to just sit back and enjoy a popcorn flick. These movies are not suppose to be cinema masterpieces. They are suppose to provide entertainment.

You can't chase the first movie high. Each of these has to be judged independently. I am looking forward to seeing this in the next few days. My expectations are decent story and lots of characters I never thought I'd see on the big screen doing their thing. Can't wait.

But I am entertained by nit picking. ;)

I get what you saying, but there is still a huge difference in quality even with "popcorn" movies. A Marvel movie or a Nolan movie vs Green Lantern or the TMNT movie? Huge difference, but all are meant to entertain.

I think my expectations, with Whedon and that cast and that setting, was this would escape the dreaded Law of Declining Sequels like The Empire Strikes Back and The Road Warrior did. After all, the sequels to the solo films were all better (except Iron Man). But I was let down. A lot.

Yes, I still enjoyed the film. But just falling back on a lame category like "popcorn flick" to excuse a flawed film is rank with fan-geek-blindness.

Yes, it is a popcorn flick. But it wasn't a particularly great popcorn flick, and it could have been.

Saw it today, I left satisfied but didn't think it was epic or anything. I enjoyed the Winter Soldier more.

To me there were several disappointing plot points and some long lasting results for this universe that I thought were negative overall.

I did enjoy the Scarlet Witch's breasts though... they have potential moving forward.

Why is it that you feel you are the only one allowed to have an opinion?

Is it that hard for you to acknowledge that others might have liked it and it has nothing to do with being blind?

It is a horrendous combination of arrogance and ignorance to accuse others of being blind because they enjoy something that you don't.
