Marvel Cinematic Universe - Loved Thunderbolts*! - Also Marvel Trivia May 5th at 9 EST on FootballGuys (5 Viewers)

Who are even the Avengers right now? I know the new Captain America and I guess Spiderman (???) and I truly can’t think of anybody else. Maybe Dr Strange? Seems like everyone from the original movies is done.

I am playing a little loose with the definition of Avenger here but here is some info I think is correct (some one let me know what is wrong)

Characters (played by the original actors, minus Hulk of course) who I think are still alive in the Sacred Timeline: Hulk, Thor, Spiderman, Dr Strange, Antman/Wasp, Captain Marvel, Starlord, War Machine, Winter Soldier

Characters who will likely be portrayed by new actors: Captain America (original character got movie old), Hawkeye (original character retired, name handed off to protege), Falcon (original character became the new Captain America), Black Widow (original character died, possible replacement could be Natashas movie sister), Black Panther (original actor passed away, role was taken on by his movie sister)

Sheesh. No wonder they brought back RDJ

Yeah, unless this is Tony Stark variant from a parallel universe becoming a villain instead of a hero(and I'm not even a huge fan of that, but since the multiverse is where they're going, it at least makes sense) ....this is stupid.

I know he's a great actor and the MCU is desperately looking for a boost, but in the MCU....he's Tony Stark/Iron man. He's the most iconic character in the franchise. Having him, of all people, play another part as a character from "our earth" is dumb. It would be like if the next Star Wars movie cast Mark Hammell or Harrison Ford as the antagonist. We're just supposed to go with THAT? Come on.

I have no idea why they just didn't re-cast Majors. Yeah, its weird that his face is on all the Kang variants from a couple of movies and TV shows, but stuff happens. Nobody would have batted an eye. Just go with it.

They should lean into multiverse at this point and go with "our" universe never had Avengers or Thanos. Make Doom the new big bad and Fantastic Four and Strange the new guardians of our reality. They could still bring in other multiverse heros like Wanda and Ant Man of they wanted to without losing continuity. Then they could reboot with street level heros and even X-Men without it being too weird.

It would be nice if Doom wasn't Stark, and that he never takes the mask off, but it's not likely they will be able to resist.

It gave them an excuse to get out of a dumb plotline that wasn't working.
I guess the way they ended Loki and Ant-Man can make this work, but it’s such a weak payoff.

The whole storyline was a sunk cost. They tied it off in Loki and can move on with something that works better than the movies they put out over the last 5 years or so.

Obviously he is a great actor but it is going to seem really weird watching him play another role in the same series of movies and every one kind of ignoring that he looks just like Tony Stark unless they some how found a way to write that in.
People on Twitter seem to think he will play a Tony Stark variant of Doom which I don’t even know what that really means but it’s one idea.

Hate the RDJ idea of playing Doom - but will give Russo brothers some leeway for now.

Absolutely hate taking Doom away from the Fantastic Four.

So, what's the deal with Vision? I mean, last I saw him was Wandavision and the whole Ship of Theseus deal.

I assume he isn't done in the MCU, and he's a relatively easy character to switch actors if Bettany is over it.

And speaking of Vision, where is Simon Williams already?

Pretty sure he's not a popular character overall but, darn it I want me some Wonder Man!

FF casting blows. I mean, I like Pedro Pascal but he's no Reed Richards. Why did they have perfect casting until they got to the FF? Bad decision imo.

I always assumed Reed would eventually be played by Jim from The Office, and he was for a hot second. What happened?

I get that Pedro is huge right now but he feels like a shoehorn option to put butts in seats, rather than a match for the character.

It's like casting Depp or Decaprio as Iron Man in 2008. They would have been okay, fine even, for a while, but was there a better fit in the near, or long term for the role than RDJ? RDJ who was a tremendous liability who hadn't been truly relevant since what? Weird Science?

Hey, I love Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang as much as anyone but he was far, far, far from a marque public draw when he got the Iron Man role in 2008 but Favreau stumped for him, hard.

Pascal will be fine, good even but he's not Reed Richards. I'm not 100% that Jim is either but he makes a ton more sense than Pascal.

I choose Timothy Olyphant or Yahya Abdul-Mateen
Olyphant is an interesting option, he certainly has the right look but, perhaps a touch old (56) to start a franchise around. Although, as Reed Richards I guess everything would pretty much be CGI anyway so perhaps not.

Not sure about Abdul-Mateen. Why the guy who is most know for playing Manta in two horrible films? (and Morpheus in a third horrible film).

Will be interesting to see who the Avengers lineup includes.
Avengers as it stands looks like Captain America/Falcon, Dr Strange, Spidey, Ant-Man, War Machine, Hulk, Thor
Some of those mentioned (Winter Soldier, Yelena (Widow's sister), US Agent are all part of the Thunderbolts.
You also have the potential Young Avengers (Ms Marvel, Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang).
Other characters out there: Captain Marvel, Maria Rambeau, Suri (Black Panther), Starlord, Love, and more.

From what it sounds like though, it doesn't really matter who is on what team as the build up to Secret Wars and all heck breaks loose.

Rumor is it will end up being Fox Universe vs MCU. Basically Mutants vs MCU. Doom overseeing it all

"Vision Quest" is supposed to be in the works - but I don't recall it being mentioned at SDCC. Maybe saving it for D24? But it's supposed to follow the comic book arc of the same name with Vision's "family", which includes two android children - one of which is named Vish, I think.

Another one in the works, but I don't think it will be tied too closely to comic book canon - especially since Vision is already created from the Soul Stone and didn't use Simon Williams' brainwaves to create his personality. Wonder Man was one of my favorite characters growing up, but I have really low expectations of his D+ show. I just haven't liked what I've heard.

Aren't Doom and Reed supposed to have been classmates in college? That's what I remember of the comics, but could be wrong.
RDJ at 59 would fit with Olyphant.

I am not sure how I feel about RDJ as Doom. He is a great fit for it, but after years as Stark/Ironman, using the same actor seems odd. But I am excited for the potential.

Is he gonna drop down to 168 lbs and wrestle Shute?

;)

Wasn't Abdul-Mateen also Dr. Manhattan in a quite good "Watchment" show?

That is where I remember him from, and a decent Candyman reboot

Didn't realize that was him. I can see Dr. Manhattan as Reed Richards.

Anyone know why Ant-Man’s corpse was the lair in The Void? I didn’t see Ant-Man 3, but I don’t think he’s dead…

It's still the multiverse, an Ant Man ended up in the Void and died. I mean there were about 50 Deadpools at the end of the movie

Quick straw poll for everyone: Who is your Reed Richards?
I really liked Krasinski as Reed. I also love Pedro but just doesn't seem like a good fit.

Someone else I thought about was Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie from GoT). He has a similar look and build to Krasinski so I guess I have him typecast.
I like that suggestion.
Me too but Mr. Fantastic needs both hands imo.
True. Maybe he'd be a better Johnny Storm, depending on who they cast as his sister.

When the credits were rolling, I happened to notice who played one of them. It was a pretty famous actor. So I went to IMDB to check on the others. There are a bunch of them played by people associated with RR. Pretty cool to check them all out.

Not movie related but my son and I got into building legos recently and we did the big Daily Bugle and Avengers tower sets. They are amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing to build and if you’re looking for a new, very expensive but satisfying hobby I totally recommend.
How old is your son?

6. He builds “the guys” as he calls them and then the flat stuff on the sets. I pick up all the bigger stuff and high rising parts.
